My sweetie has told me that I can buy whatever embrodiary machine I want!! (See, that's one reason why I  him!!) I know there are WAY craftier people on here than I am, so I was wanting to know what machine would you buy??

Right now, it will be mainly for personal use and gifts, however, I could see maybe doing it as an at-home business in the next year or so. I think the largest embrodiary area I've seen is 5x7 so I certainly want the larger size. Let me say up front also...I've never done this before. It is just something I know I'll love and I'm ready to jump in with both feet! So please, give any and all advice and suggestions...I'm ready for research!!

I have the Brother SE350 but they have the SE400 that is USB connected.
I do not do that much embroidery but love the sewing part of the machine. I love how it cuts the thread and does the backstitch when you start and end.

I am interested too...I want to get one that does Disney fonts, the Disney characters and also the ability to sew around fabric if I chose to do that with Disney characters. Any tips on which one to go with?

i have a viking designer one and i love it!! Sews great, cuts the thread, and the designs are great

I have a Brother PE 770 and I love it!!! It doesn't have the built in Disney designs, but my old 270D did, and I really didnt use them very often. I felt the quality wasn't nearly as good as the ones that I could purchase from Frou Frou by Heathersue or Bows and Clothes. It can do a 4x4 and a 5x7 field. I got it on HSN and love it!!!!! Its so easy to get the designs and load them onto a thumb drive and then plug them into my machine.

I got the free version of Stitch Era, and use that to create names and stuff with the Disney Font. The machine itself does have a few fonts on it to create words/names, but not Disney.

have FUN!!!!!:thumbsup2

I got my PE770 delivered this weekend, I am so excited to get it out and give it a try! I bought a whole bunch of things from HeatherSue. Where do you find Bows and Clothes?

If you can give me tips on how to get the Disney font? THANK YOU!!

WOO HOO!!! you are going to have so much FUN!!!! Heathersue's designs stitch out so easy!!!!!

Bowsandclothes.com is also a great source for Disney stuff!!!

The way I do disney font is that I downloaded this Stitch Era for free -
http://www.swfeast.com/en/free_digiziting_software.asp

Then downloaded the Disney Font for free -http://www.searchfreefonts.com/free/walt-disney-script.htm

Then, in stitch Era, I create the names or words I want and then save them as a PES file and transfer them to my machine via a pen drive. I bet you could purchase the font someplace too though!!

Stitch Era is great when you want to add wording to a design!!

I also purchased a 4x4 hoop for our machine off of ebay for when I want to do smaller things do I dont have to use all that stabilizer.

you should join us on the disboutiquers thread!! we have a lot of fun chatting about this kind of stuff too!!!

I hope you have a GREAT time with it!!!!:hippie:

Thank you so much for the information. Nice to get some files for free. Now I just need to figure out how to get all of the thread!

Oh goodness, they have lots of differnt kind of thread...what do you get? :confused3

Cool...can you use the 40% off coupons from the paper on the thread at Joanns?

Yep - I just get mine with the coupons or when they have it on special! I found out about marathon only after i had quite afew spools of thread, so it wasn't quite the value that it would be if you were just starting. I get my stabilizer there too and use a coupon as well as spray adhesive ( I dont like to hoop shirts) !!!:goodvibes

I'm looking for a machine too. I was looking at Walmart.com at the Brother Project Runway Computerized Embrodiary/sewing machine (about $415) but the largest size is 4 x 4 hoop. They also have another Brother machine (that does just embroidery but has a 5 x7 hoop size. ) for around $600 something. Problem is, I want the larger embroidery area capability, but need a sewing machine too.

My question is, do many of you go over 4 X 4 much? would it be better to start with the smaller machine, or get the one that goes to 5 x7, but doesn't sew. (I can always pick up a cheapy sewing machine) Any suggestions? What I'd REALLY like is the Brother Quattro, but theres no way I can justify the price for something that's more-or-less, just for my own pleasure.
