Embossing buddy?

I tried heat embossing for the first time today. I had read that I could use a dryer sheet (which I had) instead of an embossing buddy (which I don't have), but I still had lots of power particles on the paper that weren't part of the stamped image.

My questions for successful heat embossers:

-If you use dryer sheets, what brand and type?
-If you use an embossing buddy, where did you get it, do you recommend that seller (if online), or have you seen them at Michael's? (There wasn't any such thing at my ACM)

I don't even know what an embossing buddy is and I emboss! More info, please. I might need to buy something.

LOL, it's something you rub on the paper before you stamp the image so that the embossing powder doesn't stick to the paper that isn't stamped. It's supposed to help make the image really crisp without any leftover powder sticking to the rest of the paper.

If you don't use one, then how do you get all the powder that isn't on the image all the way off? I know you dump the powder back into the jar, but the super fine stuff I am using sticks to the paper kind of like a layer of dust.

Hit submit too soon. In the past I have used a fine paintbrush to gently brush away those fine particles. Not awfully effective, which is why I bought the embossing buddy when I saw it at HL. Never knew it existed til then.

I use a small, stiff paintbrush to get the excess off. I've never really had a problem. I didn't even realize there was a product out there for such a thing.

Hmm, I'll have to do more research on this. I'm intrigued.

If you've been successful with what you are doing, you probably don't need the embossing buddy.........aren't you the one who started that BAN wagon ?

Who me? Why yes, but there are always exceptions.

I guess I can live without one. I was just intrigued by the concept because sometimes the powder doesn't come off the Bazzill as easily as I would like it to.

I have one and now don't heat emboss without it. Stampin Up! has them. They last a really long time - my friend and I made 130 embossede cards for christmas and it still has stuff left over. Biggest tip is to hit it on the paper to get some of the powder out first, then rub it around.

I have an embossing buddy that I got from Stampin Up. Although half the time I forget I have it until after I've embossed something. I keep a smaller make-up brush and a paint brush or two near to brush off (carefully) the excess. I also tap the paper carefully after putting on the powder.

There's a tip in this month's Creating Keepsakes that says you can use cornstarch like the embossing buddy. So the order would go:

• sprinkle with little cornstarch
• tip off excess
• stamp image
• sprinkle with embossing powder
• heat emboss
• use brush to brush off excess starch & powder

I'm going to try that next time. Shame I got the magazine AFTER I embossed and packaged my colour page kit swap - sorry to all if its a bit gritty

I am fairly new to embossing and I have never heard of an embossing buddy but now after reading this post I am definitely going to check it out. Thank you I have paper that it doesn't come off of easily too. I love it here, always learning something new.

I read on the Cricut boards that you can try baby powder. I did that and it worked well. I sprinkled some baby powder on the paper, spread it around with my finger, then tapped most of it off. Then I stamped it, used the embossing powder, tapped that off, and heated it. When I was done and it had dried, I used a stiff brush and a Swiffer sheet to be sure all the baby powder was off the paper.

I made my own - used an old baby sock filled with baby powder, and sewed the top shut. I still use a paintbrush to remove the powder on textured cardstock, but other than that, it works great.
