Embassy Suites Garden Grove?

We're going out to DL from MI in mid to late Feb. We're planning at staying at the Embassy Suites in Garden Grove for the whole stay, even though we will be spending a few days up at Magic Mountain & some time down near Legoland. Our reasoning was primarily that it had an indoor pool (we'll be there 10 nights so will have down time) & I wasn't sure how the weather would be at that time of year. Also a real (not continental) breakfast buffet would make life easier. Plus with an Embassy Suites I think I know what I'm getting into as opposed to a non-name-brand place. Anyone stayed here? I realize we'll have to drive to the parks but we're paying $103 a night (AAA) which I think is a good rate. Is it? Our kids are 7/10 so the extra room & pool were big factors! Thanks for any input!

That is a great rate for everything that you are getting! Does the hotel have a shuttle to DL? The only reason I ask is the parking would add up - It might be better for you to get an AP w/ parking. I don't know how many days you plan on going, but you are coming in Feb which has no block out dates. Just something to consider -

So you are from MI? I am originally from there and I am a mad Red Wings fan!!! I miss it- but I visit twice a year to see my family - Have a blast!!! Let me know if you have any more questions!

We already purchased the 5 days for the price of 3 tickets before I'd really realized how cheap AP's were out there - more used to WDW prices. So we're going to spend 5 days at the parks - the limited AP's would have only been about 45 dollars more. But would have been more for the kids too I guess. I know the hotel has a shuttle, but think we'd probably just like the flexibility of having a car - stopping for dinner on the way home etc. I figured even for 5 days if parking was even $10 a day it would still only be a total of $50. And we could always take the shuttle some days if we wanted!

We're from north of Detroit (near Royal Oak). My husband's a big Red Wings fan as is my oldest son. The rest of us watch the playoffs but that's about it!:p

Thanks for the input - I'll be sure to tell everyone how it went after the trip!

Parking right now is $8/day - The flexibility of the car will be nice - You might want to do Wild Bills for Dinner one night - It is a dinner theater type place - All the food you can eat and a wild west show with indians, cowboys, cowgirls and etc. The kids really like it and you are coming at a time that there might be discount tickets.

I am from north of Detroit as well - (right by the hockeytown store actually) - boy I miss the coney islands! No official coney islands in California (that I know of anyways!)

Have a great trip!

I got nervous after reading the post and decided to make sure I actually got everything it said I got. I called the hotel directly and found out that there is NOT an indoor pool on this site. In my AAA book it said there was, and on travelocity and the Embassy Suites website they both did not specify if the pool was indoor or outdoor. I'm also sure I asked when I made the reservation but think people get confused because the Embassy Suites Disneyland is in Anaheim but further away than the Embassy Suites Anaheim which is in Garden Grove & closer to DL.

I called Embassy Suites and spoke with a helpful person who switched my reservation to the Anaheim Embassy Suites which does have an indoor pool, but is 6 miles away from DL instead of 1. Although the rates had gone up quite a bit since I reserved in October (I checked Expedia, ES website, Orbitz & Travelocity before calling), she was able to get me a Family Magazine rate of 109 (vs the original 103 but still cheaper than I was finding!) She did this after I specifically asked if there were any better rates than I could find & she had quoted. So I'm not sure if they can't offer better rates unless you ask! So we're a little further away now, but I'm relieved that we at least have the pool and still the breakfast! Thanks for your help!

Did you purchase your Tickets through AAA?? If so, I am pretty sure (at least they used to) includes free parking.

No, we bought our tickets online. Just doing everything on our own this time. Last time we went to WDW we used a travel agent and it seemed like such a hassle to make changes, ask questions, etc.

I have never made any booking through a Travel Agent, and I don't think I ever will. I need to feel like I am in control of my vacation.

BTW, for next time, you don't have to book your trip through AAA to purchase your tickets there. I have always gotten my tickets there.

We stayed at this Embassy Suites (Garden Grove) over 1 yr ago.

It was nice - esp with the morning complete breakfast, and the happy hour snacks.

Yes, it does have a half-hourly complimentary shuttle, to and from Disneyland (the shuttle is shared with other nearby hotels).

Does the Anaheim Embassy Suites have a free shutte, to and from Disneyland? Otherwise, how do these 2 Embassy Suites compare?

We switched our reservations last night to the Anaheim one from the Garden Grove one. In talking to the hotels directly, they told me the Garden Grove (nearest to Disney) had a shuttle that ran nearly constantly, especially during peak times. The Anaheim one said it supposedly ran every half hour, but to make a reservation if you wanted to be sure of a ride.

Primary reasons we switched were for the indoor pool at the Anaheim one and because there the rates were the same for 2 double beds or for a king, and at the other one the 2 double beds were about $20 more a night (which they required us to have because we have 3 kids).

we just spent 7 days at the Embassy Suites in Garden Grove. Although the pool was outside, it is heated. The temps were in the 60's and people still swam in the pool. This hotel is newer than the Anaheim one 6 miles away. The food options around the Garden Grove Embassy Suites is far superior to the Anaheim, mostly because they are easily within walking distance, even with kids. The breakfast and managers special in the evening are sooo worth it. Not having to drive and park because of the shuttle is nice too.
