Embarrassed and Feel Like an Idiot

I had made a post yesterday regarding a guy that I was told that liked me at work, but was too shy to approach me.

Just found out from a different co-worker that there was no truth in any of this. After hearing all of this stuff flying around, he happened to see him and asked about this. He said that he did now know how this all started, but that there was no truth in it and that he was not interested. Someone made this up and it just grew.

Now I feel like a complete idiot and am so incredibly embarrassed. I knew something was not quite right and said so in the beginning. Why would someone like him be interested in someone like me. Now I know that he never was and just feel so stupid to have thought he would be attracted to me.

awwww....
don't be embarassed...happens to the best of us

Doncha just hate "rumor mills." :(

:grouphug:
When the right person comes along, you will know it.

Terk-1 I'm sure you have plenty of wonderful things to offer someone. Dont worry about someone like you and someone like him stuff. When it happens to be the right person you'll know it. :grouphug:

Oh, my gosh, do you work at a junior high or something? Grown people start rumors like that? Sheesh!

Don't worry--it'll all blow over. And of course someone like him would be interested in you--why in the world not? You're not stupid at all and I'm sure he never thought a thing of it.

Frankly, I'm just really irritated with your coworkers!

Awww don't feel like an idiot. The person who started the rumor should feel like an idiot because that was really stupid of them to make up something like that. I'm sorry you feel embarrassed by this. Just remember, time will pass and everything will be ok. The right man will come along for you! ;)

I can't help but think this sounds extraordinarily juvenile, also. I wouldn't be embarrassed at all, you didn't do anything wrong. The silly people who started this are at fault, don't let them get to you, honey!

Wow, I sound like I'm talking to my 11yo son!

can I offer some other advice?

don't date people you work with. trust me...it falls apart more then it works out!

no reason to feel like an idiot, you just sound like a single person who was considering a date with somebody.

Have you spoken directly to him ? Or just through other people?

You may want to get together with him and get to the bottom of this if you haven't already.

Then I would go to your human resources dept. Rumors like this are not appropriate at work.

Awwww. A rumor hurts 3 people:

1. the person who starts it
2. the person who hears it
3. the person who repeats it

Or something like that. Okay, there was really no point to my post, I just wanted to offer you  I'm sure you'll find the right person someday (don't you hate hearing that? I'm sick of hearing it too. Sorry I said it to you.)

Also, the previous poster is right. Don't date someone you work with anyway. It's never a good idea. :)

The only thing you have control over is your reaction. I think you need to re-examine your comment:

"Why would someone like him be interested in someone like me."

That's a pretty self-denigrating remark. I'm sure that you have plenty to offer in a relationship. Hold your head up high. You know that you didn't start the rumor - you have nothing to be ashamed of!

Hang in there!

:( I missed the post you mentioned...but this all just stinks!:(

I think we've all been there to some extent...this'll all blow over sooner or later...meanwhile keep smiling!:) (or duck in here at the DIS whenever you need to hide.;))

Some people are clueless when it comes to other people's feelings.

Just a thought -- if you know this guy, and feel awkward - like what did he think you were thinking, etc., you might want to toss him an email & let him know that you heard a rumor was going around, and how crazy people are to gossip about something that isn't true. That way, you've confronted it, and hopefully won't feel embarrassed in front of him, or anyone else, for that matter.

Whatever you do -- big hug.
