Email petitions--are they valid?

A friend of mine keeps sending me these email petitions. Sometimes I agree with the subject sometimes I don't, but I never sign them or forward them on. Are they even valid? I mean what is to stop me from just adding a bunch of names to it and then sending it on?

Email petitions aren't valid...think about it...once you send an email to 2-3 people only...that's separate petition lists going around and within a few times of forwarding, there's dozens of different lists, not just one. Then who decides when to stop forwarding and collect all of the names?

As far as I can tell, they're worthless

That's why I just delete them! What good is a petition if it never gets sent anyplace.

That is my thought as well. The last one she sent had the names numbered adn told you that if you stopped it, it would not continue. Sort of a chain letter/petition all rolled into one. Anyway, what I couldn't figure out was how I could effect it all that much since I was sure the 1800 people who had supposedly signed that form before it got to me had not only sent it to one person each. I am tempted once in awhile to put my very liberal MIL's name on these very conservative petitions thouigh! (Kidding!)

Don't bother with them. they're useless and almost always fake or outdated anyway.
