I just got an email from National saying I have more than 1 car reserved for the same time period. Will they cancel one? We can't decide if we want a mini-van or an SUV so I am watching both prices. Has anybody else had this happen??

Are you renting very soon, next day or so?
If so, yes you will have to decide which rental?

Well since they noticed I think there is a definite risk they will cancel. What does the email say?

Frankly, I applaud them for the enforcement - and I realize that I will be in the minority here.

Imagine trying to manage inventory when customers repeatedly make multiple overlapping bookings with no penalty (and usually no cancellation policy)

The rental car industry is the last area in the travel industry where one can book multiple bookings, change, not cancel and never get charged. Most online rentals don't even require a credit card guarantee. Few charge for 'no shows'

It must be a nightmare for the rental agencies to determine how much inventory they need to have on hand, and I've been the customer who arrives with no car available as the agency did not forecast correctly.

Kudos to National for making a start in trying to change customer behaviour.

The rentals are for July '07.

The reason I ask is because, the day before each of my rentals, I get an email from National "reminding" me that I have a car rental the following day.
I was thinking that if I had 2 rentals, that would be when the computer picked it up.

@ MCO, the rental car agencies overbook expecting cancellations; when questioned they freely admit it.

unfortunately, if you arrive after noon during a busy time you can consider youself "lucky" to get anything decent (as the staff of Alamo/National so eloquently put it...grr) even as members of their respective pref programs.

do think it's not unreasonable to limit customers to 1 rental pp during any given time period.

surprises me that all agencies don't require a CC guarantee on all ressies, with cancellation penalities.

I'm holding 2 ressies as well for March 07 ( SUV and MIDSIZE CAR) .I haven't
received any emails?? I'm not sure what I'll need ( only a $15.00 difference on the SUV)
I'm a first time renter and wasn't aware you couldn't hold 2. Makes "cents" though...Now, what to cancel?????
