I don't know if this is the right forum, but here goes. My 84 yr old father-in-law uses a walker and is fairly weak. He wants to go to WDW with us very badly so we're taking him. My question is, if you rent an electronic scooter in the morning, if we need to take him to the room in the afternoon for a rest, is it alright to park the scooter in the park and come back for it in a couple of hours? The only reason I'm asking is that he wants to see spectromagic and TON and i'm afraid if he turns in his scooter there won't be one available when we return in the late afternoon. He cannot stand for an hour for a parade to start and is too frail to sit on a curb. I just didn't know if a cm would come by, notice it had been sitting there for a couple of hours and turn it in at the front. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I suggest you get it from an outside provider because you cannot take them out of the park you rent at. And if you leave or park hop there is no guarantee you will have it later.
Check out the Disabilities Board for more information on ECVs.

I agree with lisapooh. If you think he will need one for most of the parks, it would make the most sense to rent from one of the off-site vendors. They will all pick up and deliver to your hotel. You can even rent for just part of your vacation if you don't want one for the whole stay.

I can't move your post to the disABILITIES Board, but if you click on the link in my signature, you will be taken there. You can just scroll down on that board and find out a lot about ecvs.

Where do you leave a rented vehicle from off property at night when you are in your room?

Yooperfan,

The rooms are big enough for the scooters. I believe that Bell Services will also store (and recharge) them for you overnight in their luggage store.

I'll move this over to Disabilities so that you can get some more info. Thanks for posting. :)

yooperfan, welcome to our board. :)

Click on the link in my signature to get to the disABILITIES FAQ... be sure to read about the GAC, to see if that will be of use to you, and also about pacing, and tips for travelling with frail elderly.

I hope you have a great trip!

We have used ECV's the last two years at Disneyland. There they allow you to turn it back in at the rental facility and hold it for you till you come back to the park later in the day. Am I understanding this correctly that the parks at WDW do not do the same?

We have never rented an ecv, so I can't speak from personal experience. I have read that people have rented an ecv, left the park and had the ecv held for them when they return to that park. After all, you did rent it for the day, so it would make sense to hold it for you.
The problem comes that some days all the ecvs get rented out fairly early in the day. If you get one and come back to that smae park, they will hold it for you (from what I know), but if you rent one and then want to hop to another park, there is no guarantee that there will be one for you at that park. You won't have to pay a second time if you show your receipt, but there may not be one for you to use.
