Ok, I really, really, really need help. I'm trying to talk to my advisor about the program making sure all of my bases are covered. I thought they were but apparently not. Needless to say my advisor knows nothing about the program and I don't have the information I need to give her not knowing the information she needs! Savy? Please help before my brain explodes!

Several colleges have never heard of the DCP before, so you'll have to do a little digging in order to get the right answers. What questions does she have, maybe people here can help answer them. Did you attend an on campus presentation or the one on-line?

The online one. My main concern is that I will lose my Bright Futures scholarship. I have to take 6 credit hours somehow while on the program. When I look at others on the program I never see mention of the process they had to go through with their school and I'm more or less curious and what those steps normally would be.

If you only need 6 credit hours you could always take an online course. They are normally called distance learning. If you take two 3 credit online courses you now have 6 hours. Plus it is not that hard to make time for course work. You can even mention that you are taking online classes and schedule a time each week to go into the education building there and work on your course work.

That is my current back up option. Im just concerned as I took two online classes in high school and needless to say it did not go well.

You might want to try going over the list of courses they offer on the college program with your advisor and see if you can get any credit for taking them. I know some people are able to work out credit hours from that.

From what I've heard, the process for the DCP varies greatly from college to college. At mine, they treat it basically like a regular internship or co-op and enroll me in a class that acts pretty much just like a place-holder for me in the school's system. Enrollment in this class keeps my full-time student status for insurance and scholarship purposes (they just don't give me any money for that semester and it resumes when I return after the internship). However, I don't actually have to do anything for the class except successfully complete my internship. No papers or homework or anything. It's a pretty nice setup. I know of others that had to take 12 hours of online classes to keep enrolled or negotiated with their school to do some sort of project or paper about their experience on the DCP.

I wish there was an easy answer. I remember running all over campus trying to get all my ducks in a row before my DCP. I just made sure to keep good records of my email correspondence with my advisor, career services, financial aid, housing, etc in case any problems arose and I needed to show proof of what I had been told.

Okay thats just scary. I have the same problem. The ppl at my school don't know anything about the CP. Thankfully they did advertise, which I never saw except on the CP site. Thankfully some of the students at my school knew about it. I ended up having to go to Iowa State for the Presentation.
