We just returned from BWV's.
We had a great time as always.

We love DVC and are very happy but......
We stayed at Marriott Grande VIsta prior.Which was fantastic.
I have to admit we are thinking that we have been there done that at DVC.
Has any one else had that feeling?
We have stayed at all WDW DVC ex AKV .and feel that the excitment of staying some where new has worn off.
We have decided that we do not want to stay at AKV after a trip to get lunch there.TERRIBLE service in caferteria style resturant(decent food)
I know that a post even suggetting second thoughts about DVC will cause some to question my loyalty but i am just wondering if anyone else looks at other timeshares after a few years.

Loyalty-- to DVC? What does that buy you? Don't lose any sleep over issues of "loyalty" to a timeshare! (Oh, perhaps you meant to this community -- I think this group can handle, even welcome, the diversity.)

We own other timeshare in addition to DVC. Of our five, DVC falls somewhere near 3rd place when evaluating the group for "favorite/best purchase."

Which other ones ( in addition to DVC ) are good why?

What did you like about Marriot Better.....do you think it is the hotel you like better.....or are you tired of "Disney"

Of course! And some of us even buy other timeshares in addition to DVC. I've thoroughly enjoyed staying at other Orlando area timeshares. I've also considered selling some DVC to buy another timeshare in another area.

Isn't the average ownership term for DVC something like eight years? I think I remember coming across that info somewhere. We have to remember that people here on the DIS DVC boards are not the average owner, I think that tends to skew our perspective on things sometimes. Most of us are what you might call fanatical and that distorts our viewpoint. There's no reason to feel loyal to a timeshare, if you're tired of it don't feel bad about getting rid of it. Sometimes people just want to move on and that's OK.

As a new owner, I anticipate going thru different phases as time goes on. My kids are young adults (19, 23,26 ) not married. We have only visited Disney 2 times as a family before purchasing. So where we might not frequent the parks alot, we will enjoy the accomodations and flexibility. I fully intend to utilize II, and the off-site DVC resorts. As we acquire grandchildren, I'm sure we will visit the parks more often. I like how Disney is growing its expansion not revolving around theme parks. :thumbsup2

I guess we are one of those "fanatical DVCers":goodvibes , we only own this timeshare. We used to own another, sold it to buy DVC. We never had much luck exchanging with it, and we were always putting in for Disney as our first trade in choice. Closest we got was on 192 and the resort was sub standard (IMHO), yet listed as 5 star by II.

Seems every time we have the chance to spend time away from Disney, we opt to stay in Disney! So we are very happy, even 8 years later, with 3 upcoming trips already booked - one coming up this Sunday!!!

We will "branch out" and do Vero Beach once, and repeat HH often. I hope to get to California and Hawaii, but I'm not holding my breath as my husband doesn't like to fly. I like the fact that now II is offering shorter stays at select places, but looks like its going to be really difficult to actually get into one.

Anyway, good luck planning!

We bought nearly 11 years ago. We sold two of our five contracts last winter. We want to go to the beach and not VB. And I need to do Yellowstone in winter again. Last time we did it I was pregnant with our son and he is nearly 15. Can't do that with DVC.

We are at the point where we are tired of the crowds at the parks.
the lines etc.
The Kids have been spoiled by universal front of line .
We spend fri,sat sun at universal they go on any ride they want as many times with no wait.
Universal also has exceptional ticket deals.
we can then go to DVC and relax by pool.

My comment about loyalty was geared towrd the board I guess
Sometimes a post even hinting about something negative is met with some strong reponses.

This is the biggest reason I've never really been tempted with addonitis and we don't do Disney every year. I enjoy Disney, but there is an entire world of non-Disney vacations to take. I'm glad there are people on this board that get such joy out of Disney that they go several times a year, or want to retire and live there - but honestly, I don't "get" that - and no, I'm not jealous, I just completely understand "Disney AGAIN?!" - even though it has been our "regular" vacation.

But I'm not tempted by another timeshare. Cash is still king.

We like to mix our Orlando trips up. Some trips are to do the Disney parks and stay onsite and some are just to relax and spend time at the pools/going out to eat/relaxing. We bought our first Marriott (resale) and joined II with an individual membership to be able to trade and have access to the cash Getaway weeks. DVC is great, but it's an expensive timeshare just to sit around the resort and relax when Orlando has so many great vacation club properties.

This last March we stayed 1 night at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and a week at Marriott's Cypress Harbour. We actually booked Cypress Harbour on cash (a II Getaway) and it was only a little over $600 for the week (Marriott.com's price was over $300 a night with a discount!) We definitely like Marriott Vacation Club's quality and you can't beat the Revive bedding (so comfy).

I wouldn't want to totally give up my DVC points, but we definitely like staying at other Orlando properties (especially Marriott Vacation Club).

We're very much in your boat. And much like Deb we still want to see Yellowstone (first time for us) and as many national parks as we can. So we're happy with DVC as our routine vacation.

We have a Starwood week that we bought really cheap and (it's a 2br and a plus has enough sleeping capacity to bring my sister, and the 2 boys get their own sleeper sofas and they don't need to share a room with her).

II Getaway weeks  . We might go out to the Phoenix area for Xmas,we have family out there, via a II getaway week.

Marriott's are definately roomier than DVC units. The quality of the bedding is much nicer also. I've stayed at the Manor Club in Williamsburg and we're going on an II exchange to Park City staying at the SummitWatch.

I'll give you support ! As 10 year DVC owners, we've come to feel the same way. It's a big world out there with many offerings. We are in the process of selling our DVC interest and looking at alternatives. It was a great ride while it lasted but for us and our "personal" tastes, it's just not working anymore.

We love DVC, but we are selling one of our contracts. It makes us sad, but the only reason we are going to sell is that we can't go every year like we used to (been members since 2002). Kids are in school now and it's harder to pull them out. We figure we'll go every other year now.

we bought DVC mainly for its flexibility (an area which it has worked well). over the years, we find ourselves going to WDW to relax with little "attraction" time (pool, mini-golf, dining, etc).
we'll prob use our points to go to italy in 2009 or '10......problem is we'll mostly likely miss our relaxing DVC vacation that year (it really is like a "vacation home" for us):confused3

We own at Grande Vista and at Barony on HHI every other year, alternating years. We just purchased a small contract at DVC HHI as an annual getaway for DH and I. When we want to take the kids, we use our Marriotts to either trade or stay at because they are bigger. We have gotten some great trades to Aruba, Hawaii and Southern California with them but I don't see us trading our DVC the way we do our Marriotts. I think they both have a place in our travel plans; we like the trades with MVC but we like the flexibility of the point system with DVC. We can trade our HHI MVC into WDW DVC when we want to visit the mouse.

We are really happy with our ownership as it stands but will probably add on some more points at some point so we can stay in a larger room or longer.

Thnak for all the feed back

I don't feel so guilty anymore.
I am also thinking that as the kids get bigger there may be a time when going to DIsney with Mom and Dad may not be cool.

Not planning on selling yet.
