Ei$ner to STEP DOWN !!!!!

* I am disappointed in the loss of the Pixar/Disney agreement. * When will ABC climb out of the basement? * What are the plans for the Family Channel. Disney bought them out, and I expected a big programming change.
* Star Tours needs an update, but I think Eisner burned his bridges with Lucas.
* Disney Channel - In my part of town, I had to pay extra to get this channel. In 2003, it became part of the standard cable package. A lot of people switched to Nickelodeon and Disney lost on the chance to market to these kids. Nick Jr has partnered with Kings Island (local amusement park) and has an award winning kids area. I have neices and nephews who grew up on Rugrats and Scooby Doo because they could watch it for "free" on Nick and Cartoon Network.

The parks are still first rate, and I've always had good experiences at WDW.

Having worked in management for a large corporation for 30 years, it is very easy to see why people in non-management positions develop less than favorable opinions about managements decisions. However, they don't always know the entire picture. It is very hard to please everyone. Sometimes it takes less than favorable immediate steps to achieve a long term goal. Everyone wants Disney to be beautiful, all CMs to be happy and for Disney to continue to add more for our enjoyment. Well, that's hard. It takes money to make money. No one likes price increases, yet they want more for their money. Shareholders want the stock to go up so that means a better bottom line. These things don't always mesh. Yes, Eisner has made some less than favorable decisions, but he's only human. I bet if he'd had a crystal ball, he wouldn't have bought ABC. But then, everyone was in hog heaven when Million first became a hit and ABC was at the top. Every network struggles to find hits. Every movie studio had flops. No one could have anticipated the effect of 9/11 on the entertainment industry. I think they've done a pretty good job recovering. As for happy employes, there isn't a large company that doesn't have disgruntled employees. Some of the groups that were screaming for Eisners heads earlier this year are people who want high profits and could care less about the parks and movies. They just want their stock to soar. As for Steve Jobs, I think he has just as big an ego as Eisner. I think Pixar is cutting their own throat. Off my soapbox now. JMHO.

I know there are tons of people who are critical of the disney channel but we love it. I will not put on Nick because of the huge commercial bombardment that comes. I hate commercials and that is a large part of why Nick was "free" So I don't think it was a mistake to make Disney channel a premium channel. Actually I like the programming and the way it is set up.

It's about time in my opinion. Eisner has not been good for the Disney company for at least 5 years. I can't think of a Disney animated film released in the last 5 years that was made a lot of money. Pixar, not animated by Disney, doesn't count. He almost (or did he) lose the partnership with Pixar, he has oversaturated Disney World with hotel rooms that can't be filled, built 2 (AK and CA) and now maybe three theme parks which were pretty lackluster when they opened. All this and he has cut the stock value in 1/2 over the past 5 years. As a stockholder, I am not happy by the management he has given the company recently and think it is time for him to go.

This all pales in comparison to seeing a post from the Goofmeister!!!!

Glad to see you friend!

I completely agree!!! ::yes:: ::yes::

If this means Goofus is coming back, I'll pack Ei$ner's office myself!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Thank you all for your continued good wishes! :):):)
You are all such special people! :):):):):)

I have seen some posts here suggesting that Roy might assume the role of CEO.

I wish to urge you to consider that on multiple occassions Roy has publicly stated that he has no interest in going in that direction.

Honestly, his greatest and highest contriubtions to the company can (and should) be made as a member of the Board (non-management).

His strength is best used in his general understanding and intrepreation of Disney philosophies, and how they apply to proposed projects. I feel confident that is the extent of his "ambitions". :)

IT COULD GET WORSE!

PRESSLER!!!!!

Can someone explain to me why there is so much hatred for Michael Eisner?

My dislike of him began when I was a Disney Store CM. That was way back in 1989, at the beginning of the store's creation.

I learned a lot about cuts that were being made in the Company at that time, cuts that are still being felt today down the line.

Time to bring in someone new, I will be happy when he's "retired".

Eisner may have done many things that some of us didn't like. However, as the old saying goes, be careful what you ask for. Personally, I'll hold back my enthusiasm until a replacement is named, and that replacement starts revealing his/her vision.

I couldn't agree more. I'm just holding my breathe. I'm a little scared of this transition, not that things are at all good at the moment. But I'm scared of who might take his place.
