Ei$ner to STEP DOWN !!!!!

Just sneaking in to this thread to test my countdown timer.

Something tells me that while Greg is the first kid on the block with that timer, he won't be the last...

Pete, nothing I said is really "my" version. The way the situation played out is not something I made up. The only piece that is "mine" is the question of how much thanks should go Eisner's way, and if somebody has the right to post what "we" Disney fans should think, certainly I have the right to counter that opinion, no? Your words about not everybody taking the same view are obviously correct, but should they not also apply to those that had different opinons and posted before me?

Really, Pete, if I didn't know better, I'd say you are picking on me... ;)

At the least, one needs to take a balanced approach. If nothing else, the CEO has struggled when it comes to shareholder value...

On Iger, I don't really think the decision should be made on the basis of who is the safe choice. I admit I don't know all that much about Iger, so what I'm looking for are some concrete reasons why he should be the choice.

His fingerprints are all over the issues ABC has had over the last few years. What good things, particularly from a creative standpoint, have his fingerprints on them? I don't mean things that he himself necessarily created, but what kind of track record does he have in managing creativity?

Why should I support him instead of somebody else?

Really Pete, if I didn't know better I'd think you are picking on me.
Aw gee...Was it that transparent?:hyper:

"The only piece" was what I was taking exception to (as always) and cerainly you guys are entitled to the your opinions (wrong as they may be).:jester: Kidding, only kidding.

Is Iger right, I thought so, but seriously, Sara's simple little comment does have me thinking I could be wrong...

At the very least, a fan has to consider...the refusal to commit to CGI until everybody else had, etc, etc, etc.
I would hardly call entering into an incredibly profitable long-term development deal with a fledgling CGI movie production company which has now become the standard-bearer in CGI films a "refusal to commit to CGI...."

Good thread. Thanks for your comments, everyone. It will be very interesting to see how this all pans out over the next few years.

In the meantime I think Peter Pirate needs to get the heck out of the Keys!

I would. As profitable as the deal has been, it would have been more profitable to make the larger committment of building it (and sticking with it) in-house. Particularly in the long run.

The deal was a way to mitigate risk, i.e. decrease committment.

Of course if you believe Disney was not capable of achieving the success that Pixar did, maybe the reluctance to maintain a committment makes sense. But that just raises the question of why that situation came to be.

Uh-oh...

Well, I did say this would happen, but I never expected it this soon!

Next set of predictions - Disney will enjoy a short rise in the market following that change of head before quite possibly going down faster than the sun probe.

It may not. IF the next lot are as market savvy as Eisner is, as opposed to a load of people with nice ideas, people who go hoppity skip into the company full of good intentions. Why? Let me state the obvious.

Some people are not nice.

And guess what? Some of those people are at the healm of companies, such as Comcast, who are circling Disney like vultures. In case you hadn't noticed, Disney is not as strong as it once was yet has the power base to rebound. The only way that this could be more obviously prime for a takeover is if an investor announced that he was backing the company with unlimited piles of cash and all the executives wore little signs on their hats reading "Ripe for takeover". Trust me, Disney is attracting attention like rocks attract gravity.

Disney may get lucky. Or it may fade away. It's biggest defence - the ruthless, powerful head - is going. Just hope that Disney get's another one.

The world is ruthless. Disney's innocence may yet finish it.

Why not go for someone who is both ruthless and talented?

As for the Pirate, for goodness sakes make tracks!

Oh, you can be talented in any persona, it's the ruthless versus wishful issue. I think many people here are thinking that Mister Right will walk in and instantly spend buckets of cash re-opening animation studios, repairing the parks and generally adding a liberal coating of gold leaf to everything within arm's reach.

I do accept that the wishful person may also be a ruthless person. But let's face it; there hasn't been one in the world yet.

Thanks folks!

I'm a bit of a conch (albeit freshwater/not born here) in that I don't really want to leave my home...BUT, we are leaving tomorrow (we really must as our house is scant 20 yards from the ocean and about 12" above sea level). We're going to my parents in Vero Beach (which was ground zero from Frances) and as of today they didn't have power yet (but there is a roof and beds). Hopefully power will be restored there today or tomorrow.

I'm still hopeful this will jog west and blessfully (is this a word?) miss the Keys again. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!

Hmmm, looks like Stan and Roy accomplished something afterall.

Now to work on Iger.

I don't think anyone is thinking that. Some maybe hoping for that, or at least some kind of variation, but I don't think anybody believes that Eisner leaving, whenever it happens, makes everything ok.

All it means is that the next step can take place, thought it still maybe awhile before it does.

I've had this timer on my posts for a few months now!

I am so ready to see a FRESH face with truly creative ideas at the helm at Disney!!! That means NO EIGER, PRESSLER or any other Eisner henchmen. I pray it won't be a case of "Meet the new boss; same as the old boss."

Still, hope is in the air and the stock price is up today!

:jester:

I have an idea: what about Matt Ouimet to head up the whole corporation? He has done a GREAT job with the cruise lines and is bringing back Disneyland to be in better shape than it was.

I wonder if this is going to be a case of "out with the old, cheated by the new"?

Pete, you may have gotten your wish..... just read where Ivan suddenly turned west as it was starting to hit Jamacia.
