There are a number of potentially dangerous places in the world. I'm glad I visited Mazatlan, Mexico last April, because most cruise ships have cancelled that port call. I can't say I've ever had a desire to visit Egypt or Tunisia, but I feel badly for the people whose ABD Egypt tours have been cancelled.
My husband and I arrived in London on July 1, 2005 for a one-night pre-cruise stay. We took the tube to King's Cross to pick-up train tickets at the King's Cross rail station, then hopped on the first double-decker bus that came along to see the sights. We were on bus route #30, and ended up in the borough of Hackney - far off the tourist path! The next day we took the train from Liverpool Street Station to Harwich to board our cruise ship. Less than a week later (July 7), 4 bombs exploded in London - 1 on bus route #30, and 2 of the 3 bombings were underground near the King's Cross and Liverpool Street tube stations. It was rather chilling to think we had just been in 3 of the 4 places that were bombed! We stayed in London for 2 nights post-cruise, and it was a different city with some of the Underground not running. I've been to London twice since then, and I'm surprised to still see no metal detectors at rail or tube stations.
