We are currently booked for Egypt Summer 2026. We are monitoring the current situation in the Middle East to determine if we want to still go ahead or choose another destination, understanding things are rapidly evolving.

Anyone else have upcoming dates booked to Egypt and/or reconsidering?

We have a non-ABD trip booked for late summer. We will be in England at that time, so I thought it would be nice to take a side trip to Egypt since it's only a 5-hour flight away.

Our hotel and tours can be canceled 24 to 72 hours prior. While I haven't booked the flights yet, I will make sure they're fully refundable.

Not the same, but along the same lines: I had just about booked a Holland America cruise for next July (27) with an overnight in Egypt on Friday. We'd never been to Egypt before and thought that this would be the way to get our feet wet there. I am now in a holding pattern ....

Are you by any chance doing the Eclipse cruise? Egypt is the prime host for the 2027 Eclipse of the Century and I believe they will reveal the Lost Golden City of Luxor around that time. This is a major archeological find since King Tut's tomb. It would be a dream for me to be there.

Have you paid in full yet? You can easily switch your deposit (one time) to another trip before PIF. After that, you're pretty much at the mercy of ABD as to whether they cancel or not, or else you face stiff cancellation fees. And they generally do not cancel until close to the last minute. They ran the Egypt trip during previous unrest, but not such out-and-out war.

Thanks, we haven't paid in full yet. The State Department hasn't updated its website, but I saw this afternoon that it was reported for US Citizens to depart from 13 countries, including Egypt.

The State Department are *urging* people to leave those countries, not telling them to leave. Personally, I'd take that to mean I need to leave, but *technically* they aren't.

No, but I am aware of the eclipse! My coworker and I were just talking about it and he was showing me the projected path! It would be a dream for myself and my husband to be there too! I will cross my fingers for the both you and I get to be there!

Wellp, saw on fb that the Egypt ABD that starts today, March 3, was cancelled this morning *after* everyone had arrived. They are now working to get home. No details on how much ABD is doing/taking responsibility for.

Not cool.

I feel so terribly for them... those folks called right up until the day before and kept being told it was on, and they had to show up... I wonder what if anything they did or will do for folks who took the financial hit of staying home?

No companies want to lose money or clients. It has to be a dire reason for them to cancel so abruptly. I'm shocked that people were still planning to tour despite the current situation.

I know, I feel the same! One person that I know of on fb did stay home because his flights were canceled a couple of days ago. According to him, when he contacted ABD today, he *was* offered a full refund. Fb is messing with me and won't let me post or comment at the moment (don't get me started!) so I don't know what, if anything beyond a full refund of the ABD was requested/offered. Since the flights were cancelled, I assume he's gotten a refund for that from the airline.

Lots of people did the Egypt trip not that long after the October 7th attack, and reported feeling totally safe. It's technically not that close to where the problems are. So I suppose it really depends on people's personal comfort level with risk!
We were supposed to go on that tour!!! Glad we canceled before our paid in full date.
Oi! Glad for you, too!
ABD said they cancelled next week's as well.
They've cancelled the March 17th one, also, as far as I know.

I just feel horrible for the folks who were assured that the trip was going and arrived yesterday or today, just to have to turn around and come back. It will definitely be interesting to see how ABD handles compensation for the wasted flights. Not to mention wasted days.

Absolutely! We also have friends who we went on an ABD with a few years ago who ended up getting stuck in Abu Dhabi. They were meant to continue on to India but were grounded while on their layover and haven't been able to get out yet. She says she feels totally safe but I'm biting my nails for them.... at this point they just want to go home and I don't blame them.
