Eggs-plaining the Egg-stravaganza -- The 2016 Hunt Is Over!!!

Here now (Easter Sunday) - CM said this is running through 04/03. Plenty of maps and all eggs at Elias & Co.. :)

Great news! Thanks for posting! We're excited to do the hunts... not only to hunt eggs, but since we know we're going to be there at a really busy time, it's nice to have options with what to do when lines get long.

Thank you so much for reporting in with that news, JeriLee -- I know that a lot of people will be very happy about it!

Is there any sign of the Easter Bunny out today? Or any kind of dedicated photo spot for all of the Disney rabbits?

That is, indeed, great news for those who are at DLR this upcoming week! Since the eggs-tention (sorry -- I just have to "crack" a few more egg jokes while I still can!) was not announced by the Parks Blog, then I am guessing that what I suspected yesterday is what prompted it -- an over-abundance of maps and prizes. They over-ordered to compensate for the short supplies in previous years, and they discovered that they had many more maps and prizes available than they anticipated. Hence, an extra week of hunting!

I just wanted to mention that now there is an "official" confirmation from Disney (other than the the park CMs), as well as from the in-park CM with whom JeriLee spoke earlier today, about the extension of the Egg-stravaganza.

The Disneyland Today Facebook page responded to someone and said, "The last day to experience the 2016 Egg-stravaganza is April 3 or while supplies last!"

So, that likely means... if maps run out before April 3rd, then the hunt will end (maybe not all 3 hunts, but whichever one runs out of maps). If the maps are still plentiful and available, then the hunt continues on until 4/3. Maybe the Parks Blog will post an update tomorrow.

I think that it seems a bit odd to continue an egg hunt beyond Easter as a general rule, but in a Disney Park anything is possible and acceptable!

At this rate, since they got rid of the Springtime Roundup and character egg decorators, I would love, love, love to see DLR build up the Easter/Springtime activities a bit more. Tokyo's parks essentially celebrate Easter for 3 months (our holiday season at DLR doesn't even last for 3 months, let alone our Easter fun!), and they have bright, colorful, fun, whimsical décor. Hong Kong has those fantastic character eggs scattered around (like the Nemo egg floating in the water!!). I want a combo of what Tokyo and Hong Kong are doing! It doesn't need to be a 3-month long event, but 7-ish weeks (like what we get for Halloween Time and the Holidays) would be lovely.

Disneyland Resort could build up the season a bit better to fill out the hypothetical 7 weeks I have in mind: They could bring back the egg decorators; set up another Springtime Roundup somewhere; reinstate the photo spot for all of the Disney rabbits and the Easter Bunny; they could put an Easter display in the Grand Californian Hotel lobby and at the Disneyland Hotel; they could have an Easter parade (even a mini-parade); they could expand the variety of character eggs used in the hunt (eggs like the ones Hong Kong has); they could put a giant egg in Town Square, right where the giant Mickey Pumpkin and Christmas tree hold court during their respective seasons; they could add in extra levels to the Egg-stravaganza, with smaller eggs that are more challenging to find for those who want the challenge....

There are a lot of things that could be done, but DLR really pales in comparison to the other Disney parks when it comes to Easter-ish things. We have an Egg-stravaganza egg hunt in both parks and in DTD, which is something the other parks don't have (I think their hunts only take place in one park, correct?), but otherwise we are lacking in Easter/Spring-themed merriment.

One thing I saw this year, that I don't know if they had previously, is an Easter Egg hunt at the hotels for guests if the three hotels. They seemed to offer two different times/age groups in two locations. I got the impression that these were regular egg hunts where the kids pick up the eggs they find.

They seemed to offer two different times/age groups in two locations. I got the impression that these were regular egg hunts where the kids pick up the eggs they find.

I had only vaguely heard about some sort of egg hunt (regular-sized eggs and not the jumbo character eggs) connected to the Disneyland Hotel, on Easter. I never got the details, and I had no idea if it was only for DLH guests or anyone who happened to sign up for it. I don't think I even knew if it was still going on every year. So it's good to know that the hotels do something fun like that -- especially since (with the exception of one lonely little ol' hiding spot) the hotels are not involved in the Egg-stravaganza hunt at all, as far as hiding places.

There used to be an Easter buffet brunch (like the big thing they do for Thanksgiving) at the DLH as well, but I think that was stopped a while back (in that particular format -- not counting whatever they are doing at Goofy's Kitchen now).

Reporting back, did 4 maps so we got 4/6 eggs (didnt get Stitch or Jessie) ... glad to read they will have them until the third so we can get the other 2!

I'm here now and had no problem getting all 3 maps and was able to get Stitch, Cheshire Cat and Minnie eggs. It's the day after Easter now and the eggs are still out.

They extended the hunt through April 3rd (which has never been done in the past)!

We're not giving up! But we're curious to see if anyone has posted a list or pictures of where each egg is located in Disneyland. We're down to three. We haven't found the one in Tomorrowland as it's been so packed in that area! We've been through several times, but we get caught in the flow of people and have had limited opportunity to look around. The other two we've just forgotten to look around when in those areas. Thanks!

I suggest asking the Cast Members where the eggs are located. I've purposely avoided posting photos or lists of where each egg is located because I'm not giving any spoilers.

If you don't want to ask Cast Members and need to see spoiler photos, over in the Trip Reports section Joe has posted photos of all of them -- http://www.disboards.com/threads/jo...aganza-easter-egg-hunt.3489499/#post-55404531.

Thanks Sherry! I knew there were no spoilers here, but I figured you might know where to find some if a person was looking :-) Two of them we just have to remember to look for when we're in the area... tomorrowland was the frustrating one with all of the people (too busy dodging people and strollers to get a good look around). But thanks to a member here, I have a hint of where to look! We're heading back over in a little bit to finish up.

I was hoping to do all of the hunts, but my daughter only wants the Stitch egg, so this will be our one and only.

I just got off the phone with a very nice Cast Member at DLR -- she had been trying and trying and trying to reach me via phone and email ever since I wrote in to DLR and asked for the egg decorators (and pumpkin carvers) to be brought back to DLR, so she could chat with me about those specific things.

I asked if there was a possibility of the Egg-stravaganza being extended beyond this coming Sunday, 4/3, if the maps and prizes are still in abundance. This CM said she is almost positive that the Egg-stravaganza is not being extended beyond 4/3, so these are the final few days to do it!! She said that this year they had a lot of maps and prizes, so there was no reason to not stretch it out for another week -- but it's time to wrap it up, especially with Food & Wine starting up tomorrow.

Okay, now that the 2016 Egg-stravaganza is apparently over (the time flew by!), we can get more specific about discussing the eggs and their hiding spots! Sure, it's always possible that some of the hiding spots could be repeated next year and identifying them will spoil the fun in 2017, but most of them will be different so I am not too worried about it.

Some thoughts (that I couldn't express in detail before, as I was trying to avoid giving out spoilers):

1. I think that the Downtown Disney hunt should extend to the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel, especially since maps are sold at those hotels too. To my way of thinking, it makes little sense to sell maps at the hotels when there are no eggs hidden there. I was disappointed to see that there was only one egg hidden at one hotel -- at that was the one in the Courtyard at the GCH. At the very least, even if there are no eggs at the PPH, there should be an egg or two hidden at the DLH because the DLH has 3 towers and a bigger area to explore.

2. I did the DTD hunt first, as I knew I could get most of it done before the parks opened. So I walked around and found all of the eggs, taking photos of each one, and they were all pretty easy to find. The only egg I could not access (although I could see it) was the one in Marceline's Confectionery, as the store had not opened yet. So I went back and got a picture of it later. I saw a lot of people wandering around DTD with maps in hand. Some of them had the same idea I had -- get there on the first day and do DTD first, before spoilers started leaking out about where the eggs were hidden.

3. When I went in to World of Disney, I first had to chuckle because their egg was "hidden" right by an entrance/exit, so they really made it easy to see. If they hadn't put the egg near a door, and had hidden it somewhere in the middle of the store, I probably would have been aimlessly wandering back and forth trying to find it. You can lose actual people in that store, so not being able to find an egg would be easy to do!

4. I could not see the egg hidden at Anna & Elsa's Boutique at first, as it was shoved all the way over in a corner and there were people standing in a way that blocked it from my view. I knew the egg was not inside the store because the clue on the map would have indicated that it was inside. So I knew it had to be outside or somewhere in a window, and a mom and her daughter just happened to be standing right smack dab in front of it. I finally had to ask them, "Have you seen an egg around here?" The mom said, "Mm-hmm. We saw it." And they didn't move! :lmao:

5. In World of Disney, a CM directed me to the wrong area to collect my prize. I was standing in a line that turned out to be the wrong one, and then had to get out of that line and into the right one.

6. In California Adventure, I was surprised that the hunt was a bit more challenging this year than it had been in DCA the last time I did it. The last time I did the hunt in DCA I thought it was tremendously easy -- too easy, really (for my tastes). This year it was mostly easy, with some roadblocks along the way.

7. Some of my favorite egg hiding spots were in DCA this year -- and that would include the Goofy egg in the back of the car (loved that one!), and the Minnie egg in the truck.

8. The egg that was hidden near the supposed entrance of A Bug's Land was low to the ground. At first I could not see it because there were strollers parked in front of it -- and they were not supposed to be parked there, a CM told me. I finally caught a glimpse of it, and I climbed over and around the strollers to see the egg better and get a photo of it. I noticed that other people couldn't find it as well, and it was all because of the strollers.

9. A lady in Hollywood Land warned me that the Toy Story Midway Mania egg would be really hard to find. I found the Toy Story egg right away. :lmao: However, the egg in Hollywood Land -- way, way up in the Water Tower -- left me scratching my head and thinking, "There is a water tower here? How have I missed it? Who knew?"

10. Now... let's talk about those 2 frustrating eggs -- the ones in Grizzly Peak! -- which gave a lot of people trouble. First of all, the one that was supposed to be located near a truck was moved. It was not intended to be a misleading clue at first, but after the maps were printed the CMs realized that the egg had to be moved from the truck location (due to construction) and over to the bushes where it ended up (way off to the left of where it was supposed to have been stationed). That egg threw a lot of people off. Then there was the other egg -- the one located at or near the "Artist Camp." There is no actual Artist Camp, and that egg ended up underneath a bunch of signs. People had no idea what the Artist Camp was, and they were wandering around like lost puppies. I finally caved in and asked CMs for help with one of the Grizzly Peak eggs (and for help with the water tower egg in HL).

11. Over in Disneyland, someone on the hunt warned me that I would have trouble finding the Tomorrowland Terrace egg. I found the Tomorrowland Terrace egg right away. :lmao: I saw other people struggling with it, however.

12. I think that the Disneyland portion of the hunt was a bit easier than the last time I did it. I really had no trouble finding any of the DL eggs. The one near the Carousel was hard to get a photo of because, again, strollers were parked in front of it and I had to climb over them. Where there is a will, there is a way. ;)

13. I mentioned this before, but I will repeat that not only did I see so many people wandering around with maps in all 3 hunting locations, there were also a lot of people who approached me to ask about the hunt, where to get maps, what kinds of prizes there were, and so on. People seemed very intrigued by the whole thing. Cast Members were also approaching me to ask about it, as they had not yet seen where all of the eggs were hidden. What was hilarious was that one of the CMs in Marceline's didn't even realize there was an egg hidden in the shop at that point. I went in to take photos of it, and she turned around to look at the shelf behind her and said, "Oh... that's our egg? I didn't know we had one. It's big."

Does anyone have any thoughts or observations about their Egg-stravaganza experience this year? Any eggs that you found especially difficult or easy to find?

:flower1::flower1::flower1:

I love this, Sherry! :) I wasn't able to do an egg hunt this year, but have enjoyed the thread and reading about all of your experiences. :)

We found the McQueen egg by Mater's to be the most difficult, since it wasn't visible from Cars Land, where we were looking.

I kind of wish they didn't give clues as to where they were hidden. It would make it a lot more difficult, but a lot more fun too.

this year was our first year doing the egg hunt and we had a blast! we just did the parks, but next time i think we'll try to take on downtown disney also.

at first, my husband wasn't too enthused about it, so it seemed like it was just going to be my thing and i almost just said, "forget it" because i didn't want a bored/impatient husband hanging around, haha. but when i stumbled across my first egg (white rabbit at the entrance to a bug's land) he got excited and was officially on board!
found most of the dca eggs relatively easily, but we had a hard time with the 2 grizzly peak eggs, so we decided to save them for later and we went to disneyland.
we were warned that the tomorrowland egg was really hard to find, but we found it right away, haha. conquered disneyland with no problem :)
2 days later, on easter sunday we went back to find the last 2 eggs at california adventure.
we found one (by the lockers) by total accident and were going crazy trying to find the last egg, so we went back to the truck (where there were lots of other people going crazy too) and cast member passing by told us they moved it and to check by the bear....but we had already found an egg near the bear..? so we decided to do one lap all around grizzly river and if we still couldn't find it, then we'd admit defeat and ask. and of course we did end up finding it. and my husband wanted to ask for our money back since the maps were wrong, haha

Thanks, Mary Jo! The good thing is that it doesn't look like the Egg-stravaganza is going to be discontinued any time soon, so you will have plenty of chances to do it next year or in years to come. Even if, for some odd reason, they decided to end it in one of the 3 locations (which I doubt), it would almost certainly still be going on in the other 2 locations. It seems to be a big hit -- as long as Disney doesn't start making it too expensive (like charging $20 for one map or something) I think they will continue to get more people to do it each year.

I think I got lucky with spotting that Cars Land/McQueen egg because I was already near the Bug's Land egg - those two eggs were not far apart. If I had entered Cars Land from one of the other paths I think I would have had the same problem you had in finding it. I just happened to be in the vicinity so I saw it almost immediately -- even before I saw the Bug's Land egg hiding behind the strollers.

A hunt with no clues would be interesting! I think there is definitely room for a multi-level Egg-stravaganza of some sort. I have always thought that. They could easily keep the existing one in all 3 locations, with the large eggs that are mostly easy to find, and the maps with clues. They need that hunt for the really young kids to be able to participate (one dad that I met said that he thought some of the eggs were too hard to find for little children). Then they could do a sort of moderate-level hunt, with smaller eggs and maybe more difficult clues -- or really vague clues. And then they could do a really challenging hunt, with small, hard-to-find eggs and slightly better prizes. I truly think that all 3 levels would be a hit. There are people who would do all 3 levels, and there are some that would only do the most difficult one, or the easiest one. And there are certainly enough places to hide eggs of all sizes, all around Disneyland Resort!

I'm glad your husband got on board with the egg hunting!

I have a feeling that I just got lucky with the Tomorrowland Terrace egg too. If I had approached Tomorrowland from a different angle, I might not have seen it. Or if I had not been warned that it was hard to find, I probably wouldn't have found it. I think that the warning about it somehow worked in my favor and I saw it right away too.

I think that the "Artist Camp" egg in Grizzly Peak was one of the intentionally misleading clues (whereas the Truck egg was not intentionally misleading). Every year there seems to be at least one clue that is meant to confuse hunters and lead them astray. You never hear anyone who goes to DCA talk about an Artist Camp. So to put that specific clue on the map was a deliberate attempt to throw us all off course. And even when the location was discovered, it didn't look like an Artist Camp.

At certain points I think that people were thinking that the Artist Camp egg was the one that was supposed to have been the relocated Truck egg, and vice versa. Originally I put the the wrong sticker on the Artist Camp spot on the map, if I recall correctly, because I was getting the two eggs confused at first.

As I was walking all around Grizzly Peak trying to establish which egg was which, I was thinking, "Grizzly Peak is a much bigger area than I realized it was. Who knew there was so much land here?" :lmao:

Somehow I lost my photo of Mater - Took pics of all of them for the scrapbook!

Did anyone get a good pic of the Mater egg??
