eesh, this review on tripadvisor.com on the Poly makes me sad...

It's true, the person who wrote that report probably is not a Disney person at heart and some comments were rude, even unkind.

I love both WDW and Disneyland and visit often - more when a code is available. Nevertheless, I have to agree with the price of Disney deluxe resorts and the comment about the design of the values. Why must the values always be over the top? Why not understated? I have wondered if the money spent on huge icons could have been well spent on smaller icons, more flowers and ambiance. I've stayed at POP, but find the design over the top, although I otherwise very much like the resort. Love the lake and always request a lake view. Love the fun and energy as well.

Honestly, look how many of us are always hoping for codes to be able to afford another Disney trip. The rack rate prices for all of the resorts is very high. WDW is a place especially designed for families and yet it is outgrageously expensive for families to visit.

I've traveled a good deal and stayed in NYC hotels - but it's unfair to compare NYC to WDW .

Because Central Florida is Disney's market, as well as all the other theme parks and attractions there, the prices will continue to go up, many of us will continue to seek codes and love vacationing in WDW...that's the way it is:flower:

I can understand his point about some of the resorts being too expensive, but he could've presented his point in a polite fashion. Instead he chose to slam people in a predjudice manner. And he is missing something in his life if he can't let a little bit of the ''magic'' in.

While I don't agree with the majority of the review, it is hard to argue the fact that the deluxe resorts are very expensive. Overall, at Disney you do not get a lot of room for your hotel dollar. In most of the world you get a lot more space and a lot more ameneties for a comparable amount of money.

Disney is not basing there rates for their rooms by the square footage. Just like in the real world, they are charging you for location. And as long as people are willing to pay those prices, Disney will continue to charge them.

The price of the WDW resorts is amazing (esp. in comparison to the price of the lovely and fun Disneyland resorts). I'm always planning (or dreaming) a few vacations ahead, and for what you would pay for a deluxe resort in regular season at rack rate, you really truly could rent a villa in Tuscany with its own pool. Seriously. Last March we went to Paris for Spring Break...rented a 2 bedroom flat for the week. I'm positive that when all is said and done, the upcoming trip to WDW will cost more than the trip to Paris.

I'm not so sure if enjoying the Values is the same as letting in a little bit of magic. I love to let the magic in, but I've always thought the Value's were garish. I'll be able to give you a more informed opinion after I stay at the Pop in April (something I said I'd never do, but financial reality is, well, reality).

I don't begrudge Disney for what they charge for any of their rooms - its all about supply and demand - its the American way. But as far as the Values go - if you're gonna build a cheap motel, why not just go ahead and do it. Dressing it up and calling it a resort doesn't fool anybody.

Jeez, another person who is not allowed to have an opinion on these boards!! I am brand new to this board and think I will stay that way. There is a previous thread on the mugs that was taken over by obnoxious people. The funny thing about this particular thread is that there is a similar post from a person who just returned from the Poly and everyone is oh, so sympathetic to that person. Why so hard on this person because he/she didn't like the Poly? :confused3

This person just doesn't get it. Now, who wouldn't want the deluxe resorts to be cheaper. That would be nice. But, I'm sorry, I argree with "drusba," try finding a hotel in NYC for that price that isn't big enough to turn around in. The Poly rooms are certainly not "fancy" - but where else can you stay and be immersed in a hawaiin theme, sans actually going to the islands? No place. And Yacht and Beach....not enough to do. Are they nuts? I could stay there for a whole weekend and never go to the parks. I do agree that it sucks that you have to pay for the inner tubes. Totally agree there. I also agree that the value resorts are "gaudy" but I don't think that Disney is purposely "making fun of those who can't afford" any better. I think it's definitely geared to families with kids. So, if you're kid-less, like us, DON'T STAY THERE. The moderates are a wonderful choice if you can't afford deluxe. And, don't forget discount codes...we've been staying at Deluxe resorts since 1999 with different codes (room only, AP, CM discount). I will say if I had to pay rack rate, if all discounts ceased to exist, I would not be able to bring myself to pay rack rate for a deluxe...I would simply "go moderate."

I think people are responding to not what the person said, but to "how" they said it and to the insulting comments they made.

I think that most people understand that not everyone is going to love disney or their resorts; however, just because you were unhappy with your hotel does not give the right to insult people.

I also wonder why this person did not do a little research and try to utilize a code. We stayed Poly concierge a couple of years ago for $250 a night with a code. I doubt very seriously if we would have been able to do that with out a code. I was very happy with my stay. I think that the majority of the people that get upset with Disney's prices are usually the ones that end up paying rack rate.

I totally think they wrote is as a joke. Or to see how many folks they could stir up.

Jeez, another person who is not allowed to have an opinion on these boards!!
Oh puleeze.....it's all in "how" they stated their opinion. The last comment about the "fat family" ????
The OP had so many more ways to get their point across than the way they did. I have no problem with them feeling the deluxe resorts are expensive (but there are several ways to save on them), but then they go on to use terms like "affordable for families", yet slam the value and mod food courts ? The food courts are a good addition for families on a budget---it makes it very convenient being right there at the hotel too.

BillfromPA.......It looks like that beer's getting warm!! Time to take a sip!! :drinking1
I'm just jealous!! :rolleyes1

:confused3 Did people feel that the OP was posting his/her opinion? I understood it to be a review from another website. Why all the bashing on the OP?

Wow... :sad2:

I will not be returning to Disney again. It's just a money making machine. The parks have become tiresome and boring.

The prices are expensive, but the rooms are obviously selling! It is all about what people are willing to pay. The prices will continue to rise until sales drop, and then the prices will drop accordingly. Cheaper hotels are all over Orlando offering many more amenities and luxuries, and yet, people like me would chose to pay more and stay on Disney property! If you don't like the Disney value hotels, find a luxury Orlando hotel for less! Bye Bye then... Better yet, stay home. Leave the "magic" for us! :earsboy:
