Hi All-

My dd will be 5.5 when we go in August. She's generally not afraid of things. I am trying to gauge whether or not it will be too much for her. I realize it's a very subjective question but I am trying to get a feel.

Anyone?

It all depends on your child, we elected while at AK not to ride EE with our 2 and 5 year old daughters.

My 6 year old twin daugthers rode Expedition Everest a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it.

Ummm, I believe the OP was talking about Expedition Everest.....It really depends on your child. My 5 year old son was determined to ride last month. He was so excited that he made the height requirement and got the "yeti" stamp on his hand! I kept asking him throughout the line, "are you sure about this?" "you don't have to ride".... I think his decision was based on the fact that his 7 year old sister was going! Well....he HATED it! he covered his eyes, turned to the side (as much as he could with the restraint) and cried. After, he said, "that wasn't like Big Thunder Mountain!, why did you make me ride that?!" UGH. kids!
Have fun! Good Luck

Oops! I see someone already removed the first post about EE being Early Entry.

i would take her on some other rides first to see how she handles them. thunder mt would be a good one since it appears to be similar to ee. then let her see ee go around a few times and tell her what to expect on the ride. i am sure she will let you know whether or not she wants to do it. i would definately not push her to do something she doesn't feel comfortable with, trust me i did that before and it turned out ugly :sad2:

It depends on the Child, but I would say...Listen to her opinion. Let her see others get off, you know, things like that. Really ask her if she thinks she is ready to ride. Of course, you know children--stubborn. It really depends on her. :goodvibes

My just turned DD6 rode it with me during AK EMH March 29th. She really wanted to ride it. We watched the video of the ride before we left on the Internet several times. I wanted to see how she would react. She was excited to try it.

When we got on the ride she was still excited. When we started going backwards in the dark she began to get a little frightened. I think the rest of the ride she closed her eyes and moved closer to me. She was frightened, but not frantic.

I would suggest watching the video over the Internet a few times with your 5.5 year old to see how she will react. That will give you an indication of her intent to ride. I will add that the video doesn't give you the full understanding of the ride. It is much bigger in real life. The sounds are louder, the train is faster, the Yeti shadow is bigger, and the actual Yeti at the end of the ride is much bigger and uglier. Keep that in mind when you watch the video.

After our ride was over DD6 did not want to get back on, but she was glad she rode with me.

My DD loves Thunder Mtn so I let her watch the ride video on Mousetimes (dot) com. She was loving it until... the Yeti and the dark. Then she said NOPE! She'll do any coaster out there as long as its in the daylight.

Oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks everyone! As I said, I know it's a difficult question to answer because every child is so different. DD has ridden (and loves) BTMRR. She was ok with Dinosaur but not crazy about the Carnotaur at the end of the ride. I will take the suggestion of watching the ride on the internet and let her decide when we get there. I'm not the Mom pushing the kid on the ride they're afraid of - no point in that!
