EE arrival time when driving to a park

We will be driving to HS next week and wonder what time we should be at the gate entrance for EE. I remember the last time we drove there, they made us turn around and come back because we were too early but I don't remember the details (or if it was an early entry morning). Wish we had the option to take the skyliner but part of the party is at the GF and the other half is at the campground. And I thought I had read a while back that buses were not the first to be let in.
