can an almost 11 year old (will be 2 months shy and in 5th grade) go to edge? If so, can he go back and forth between edge and lab/club or does he need to decide on one? Thanks!

Yes, an almost 11 year old CAN go to Edge. Although, whether he will be allowed will be up to the club staff on the actual cruise (and will be dependent on how many other kids are in the club). And, yes, he will be able to go to the lab as well.

I'm traveling with 4 kids 14, 13, 12, and 10. Will my 10 year old be able to go to the edge with the others?

10 yr olds MAY be allowed to age-up to Edge. It is all dependent on the demographics of the particular cruise you are on -- how many are already of the correct age and how many 10 yr olds. That said, most reports sound like it has been allowed; but it's not guaranteed until you are onboard and speak with the Edge CMs.

Enjoy your cruise!

The 10yo might be able to go to Edge. Depends on how many kids in the 11-14 age range there are on the ship. Your 14yo may opt for Vibe. If you are on the Dream or Fantasy, Vibe has a private sun deck on the bow of the ship.

I've seen so many conflicting posts - some say "No, ages are hard set" and others say "Maybe, it depends".

I have 4 - they will be 14, 12, 9, and 3 when we travel in mid September. We homeschool and they enjoy being together. They've been talking a lot lately about the club/lab/edge... My oldest son and daughter can hang together at the Edge, the younger two boys can hang at the club/lab, and DD12 can bounce between both.

Here's the "issue"... The oldest (my Peter Pan) wants to know if he can, on occasion, go to the club/lab with the younger three. I know during open houses he can do this. Again, because they're used to being together more than they are used to being apart, I'm sure the littlest one will want his sister to stay with him, which she can because she's inbetween ages. But that would leave the oldest on his own, and he would rather stay with the pack.

Outside of open houses, is there any chance, does anyone have experience, with an older child being allowed to stay with younger siblings? Not necessary all the time, but perhaps for a couple of hours so that DH and I could go to a mixology or Palo brunch in peace?

A 14 year old will not be allowed in the Club/Lab, except for Open House times. The "give and take" on ages (when allowed) generally applies to younger children being able to "age up". And those children are usually within a few months of the minimum age for that club.

Upper age limits seem to be harder set than the minimum age.

I am 99.9% sure that your 14yo most definitely will not be allowed to go to the club/lab outside of open house hours. Your 12yo will be able to flip-flop between Edge & the Club/Lab. Your 9yo and 3yo are definitely Club/Lab only.

Your 14yo will also have Vibe available to him.

Thanks. That's what I am telling the kids, so that expectations are properly set. Just thought I'd ask.

My 10 year old got in the edge 3 times on 3 different cruises last year, and my 12 year old got in on 2 cruises when he was 10. It doesn't matter if they just turned 10 or are closer to 11. If they are are going to allow 10 year olds. They will allow all 10 year olds.

If they are too full, your 10-year-old could still spend time in Edge during open houses. On our recent cruise it was open house there every day from like 10-12 and 6-8. I don't know if that is standard on all itineraries/ships, but my 9-year-old went to that quite a bit. Vibe was also open daily from 10-12.

Did you have to attend with your 9 year old or could my DD10 attend with her 13 year old sister? Thank you!

No, I was able to just send him on his own. I did go over with his younger brother for a while, too, one day, but I didn't need to be there. I never did give him "check out" privileges, but I did let him check himself into the Lab/Club or go over to Edge on his own. The only rules I had were that he couldn't leave on his own and if open house time ended and he was still there he had to go check himself into the Lab.

There was even one day when he didn't want to go into Cabo and I left him in Edge with explicit instructions to check himself into the Lab when they gave him the boot from Edge. Then on the way off the ship I ran into a parent of his friend and they asked if Elliott would like to go in the pool with them, so I gave them his room key so he could get his swim stuff. They went to Edge to see if he wanted to join them and a counselor who had overheard me tell him to go to the Lab wouldn't let him go with them. A bummer for Elliott, but impressive to see that they did that even in an "open" club.
