ECV rental at DLR due to klutz accident

i have a chest cold, overslept and was racing down the stairs to get out the door this morning on my way to work, when a cough caught me, i slipped and busted both my left ankle and left knee, both of which are currently the size of melons.

a trip to the Doc later, and I have been given icepacks, pressure bandages, pain killers and anti-inflammatories, but the one thing i am most worried about my Doc couldn't help me with... am i still going to be able to tour DLR the way i want to -- we leave in 12 days!!!!

i am usually pretty fast at healing, and i have most of the rest of the week to rest up from what is just a large sprain/bruising and a potential ligament tear... but my biggest concern... if i need an ECV at DLR, can anyone help me with where to find them/how much for rental/how convenient are they etc... and do they impact on your ability to go places/see things, eg navigate walkways/shops etc?

i'm hoping this is much ado about nothing, and i am back on my feet soon... but if not, i like to be prepared

We haven't rented one from Disneyland (we own the one DH uses), but I believe its somewhere in the esplanade area. When went wen to WDW, we found it was cheaper to rent from an offsite company (who delivered it to our hotel). That way DH had it available everywhere, not jùst in the parks. If you are driving, I've read that the rental area is closer to where the buses from the Toy Story lot than he dropoff for the M & F tram (if you decide to rent from Disneyland). If you are walking, definitely try to rent from an outside company so you'll have it for the walk to the park.

Steps are impossible w/ an ECV, but the only ride that's jumping out at me as inaccessible is the train at Main Street station (other stations are accessible). Oh, and Tarzan's treehouse... I think your should be able to still shop. be sure to get a disability guide when you enter the park, and it will tell yoù details about each ride, including where to enter.

You should still be able to have a great time, we do.

Due to an injury that has taken longer to heal than expected, I have needed to use an ECV at DLR three times in the last few months. There are two VERY important distinctions when it comes to your abilities when using an ECV.

1) Can you get out of it and walk if needed?
2) Can you do stairs?

If you look at this page on Disneyland.com, it divides everything at Disneyland based upon whether you can ride an ECV right on/in the attraction, need to transfer to a DLR provided ECV, or need to walk.

You can rent an ECV at DLR for $50/day (with an add'l $20/day deposit. It can go between DL and DCA. You cannot go to DtD or the hotels with it.

Hope you recover quickly. I know too well how difficult a foot/leg injury can be.

You might want to rent one from an outside company becuase the Disney one's you cannot take anywhere except the two parks.

I use an ECV and always rent from Deckert's Medical (714-542-5607). They are reasonably priced and will deliver and pick up at your hotel.

Because you have a pretty severe injury you may not be able to ride a few things. They will ask you if you can walk if the ride breaks down, go up and down stairs if necessary, etc...

When you get to the gates ask for a Disability pamphlet. It will tell you where to go to get on the rides (most everything at DL you go through the exit, DCA was built more wheelchair friendly and you go through the entrance). The pamphlet will really help!

First of all, OUCH!!! I hope you get better soon!

We are renting one from Deckered Surgical as well (like the previous post) and they will deliver and pick up from your hotel. It's $40 a day and no deposit.. I spoke with Diego and he was very helpful! Good luck!!

DH needed one last month on our visit due to his impending hip surgery and he resisted it for the longest time (see my TR) but ultimately said it was AWESOME. He was in pain hobbling on his cane for the first 4 hours we were there Thursday afternoon, but Friday and Saturday were so nice. He had some annoyances (hard to navigate the ECV during the huge crowd after WOC; he "lost" his ECV when he left it outside of Aladdin because of the crazy lines but we found it moved to stroller parking), but it was totally worth it.

We, too, used Dechert and they couldn't have been more awesome. Had the ECV waiting at our hotel, picked it up from our hotel, and didn't charge us for the "extra days" due to dropping it off the night beforehand and picking it up the next morning.

I also have a summary post on page 4 of my TR about the pros/cons of ECV. We never got to skip to the front of the line (DH waited by the exit and then I got into line with our girls) but we only went on Dumbo and a few other rides as a family. I saw other guests with ECV/wheelchairs go through exits at Space Mountain when I was a single rider, so there may be some rides at DLR that allow passengers to enter through the exit line.

I was there 2 weeks ago and rented one from Deckert's. It was waiting for us at the hotel when we arrived. The bellhop showed us how to use it. My sister LOVED it. She was willing to go go go all day. Much more than me. When we checked out we left it at the bellhops desk. Easy cheesy.

So glad you have no broken bones. I sprained my ankle sooooooooo badly once. It was so bad that I fainted and this is coming from a woman who can give birth naturally without a whimper (too much information maybe haha). I was on holidays at the time but I healed up enough to walk on it within the week. I really really hope you're the same.
