First cruiser here, taking dad who needs ECV for walks over 100 ft. Are there paved paths on Castaway cay that an ECV can use? And, if we dont get cabana 1 (accessible cabana) are there paths paved enough of the way to the non-accessible cabanas that all is left to walk is less than 100 ft? So he can take ECV 90% there then walk the rest.

I know about the sand wheelchairs, but pushing him a quarter mile in the sand would make him very uncomfortable.

They have motorized carts that will transport him. You will just need to tell staff. There are paved paths, but I am sure they will allow him to be transported (especially to a cabana) via the golf cart. Check with staff once onboard, or if you are traveling concierge, check with them.

There are paved paths upto basically pretty much the steps of each cabana. See e.g. this photo which shows the "front" (path-side) entrance of a cabana: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7134/7045791283_20d026dbc2.jpg adnt his which shoes the entranceway into the family beach area, including the walking pathway that leads to the cabanas: http://www.wdwfanzone.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/DSC_1002.jpg .

Note that except for the accessible cabana there will be a few steps onto a small porch in front of the cabana door; and on the beach side there will be a corresponding few steps down onto the sand (and sand path to the water). So there is navigating from the parked ECV (or cart if that is used as a PP suggested) to the steps, up the steps and then inside the cabana itself; less than 100 ft but there are the steps.

This is perfect. Thanks you two. I have no worries now. I should have known that Disney would do this right.

A note: every time we have visited Castaway Cay we have encountered windy torrential downpours for at least half an hour, sometimes longer.

I STRONGLY recommend you bring something you can cover the ECV with when it is parked to protect it from rain. Even if it looks nice and sunny.

For such a purpose I like using a Disney Parks rain poncho or two draped over the ECV, using some paracord to secure it from the wind. The ponchos are large, heavy duty, and relatively inexpensive.
