ECV in the rain

Will be at Disney in June with my parents. My step-father will be using an ECV. Will it be OK to be in the rain or should we carry something to cover it.
I would hate to park it to go on a ride or show and it rain on it and it not work.

Alot of the parking is under cover so I don't think you'll need a covering. There's only a few attractions that have ECV parking in the open.

You NEED to cover the electronics portion, all the rental places give you a clear shower cap for this but you can certainly bring your own. it is important. also never leave your key in the scooter, including when you are putting it away say in a car, have broken off two keys that way, not fun stuck in ignition.

I did DLR in the monsoon of the century or so it seemed. You need to cover the electronics and you can and will have to park outdoors. Do you want a wet rump or will you carry a small light weight washcloth to dry the seat?

When it was raining or looked like rain, I threw a rain poncho over the whole thing when I got off--or as much of it as I could cover, making sure, of course, to cover the electronic steering colum. If riding in the rain, I put a shower cap over the colum in case my rain poncho moved.

I do the same... except that when I'm riding in the rain, I put my poncho on and drape the back over the entire seat and the front over the steering column... I'm sure I look funny riding through the parks, but it works fine!

BTW, if you choose to use the "shower cap" only to cover the motor, don't forget to fold down the seat... that at least keeps it from becoming soaked.

Nope. Sorry. If you require an ECV both at the resort and the parks, an offsite rental for the length of stay is your best bet. You can learn about it in the Disability FAQ's sticky at the top of the page.

I believe they do have a limited number of wheelchairs you can use but no ECV's. As pp said, it is much more cost effective to rent from offsite than in the parks.

No park on either coast nor at SeaWorld, Universal, etc will offer free ECV.

Free wheelchairs at WDW and DLR if they still have them are for guests who have had something happen like too much sun, pulled muscles and colds. It is not meant to be used by people who should have rented a wheelchair for the whole vacation.

I used one for the first time last year - the off site place I rented from provided a shower cap to cover the controls - I brought a beach towel - more to sit in than to dry it off with - I would stick it in the basket in a plastic bag when I would leave it outside in case it rained while we were in an attraction. I don't remember covering the controls each time - I know I did if it looked like it could rain, I also folded the back of the seat down each time. Plus - unrelated to rain, but I bought one of those stretchy bracelet keyrings so I could keep track of it better - on a ride I would wear it, if we were eating and I didn't want to have my key in my food all the time I would stick it in my bag - but it was easy to find because the bracelet was pretty good sized (for a key ring)
