Eclipse this Saturday 10/14/2023

So who is planning on watching or maybe attending a viewing event? I found this on the photography forum, but I'm thinking the watchers are rather limited there.

I'm probably going to go to a local science museum where I've bought viewing glasses before. I have no idea where the old ones are anyways, and in any case they're probably damaged by now (the protective coating will probably flake off). I did find one place that sells shade 14 welders glass for about $2 each, but getting it in time is another matter.

Lots of events are going to be at NASA sites and science museums. The National Park Service, Forest Service, and BLM are encouraging visitors - especially those in the maximum eclipse areas.

This is a slightly different eclipse than the total ones we had just a few years ago. . This is an annular eclipse where even in the path of maximal eclipse, the sun will appear as a thin ring around the moon. So even if you've seen one of those, this one, if you're a short drive away, is certainly worth your while. Make sure you get special viewing glasses even for the path of annular coverage. Unfortunately, I'm not a short drive away from this one.

It‘a supposed to be sunny and we’re in the 90% zone, so yes we are watching. Already bought my glasses.

I heard Best Buy might have viewing glasses, but who know. Worst case is I go to a science museum (for viewing) and see what they have. I used to be a member (found my old membership card and a single-use guest pass). It's old but there's no expiration date on the guest pass. I'm thinking maybe I can check out the post eclipse program which requires admission.

I'm going to be in Switzerland, so no eclipse for me. Even if I was home it looks like I'm only in about a 20% zone.

We’re also thinking of driving to Cleveland or Buffalo in April to experience the total eclipse.

I suspect hotels will be expensive in the immediate areas, but maybe we’ll stay a few hours away and find some shopping mall parking lot to witness it.

Just staying home since the weather isn’t cooperating. Nothing but solid clouds here. Maybe I’ll see if I can find live coverage of it somewhere else.

It is so cool. We have been out and looked. DGD is here and she is super excited. We will go sit out side in a bit.
Maximum here will be 9:30 ish. Chairs and glasses are set up.
Clear weather. All is good.

DS and DIL are in CO for a wedding. They picked this day because of the eclipse. His last name is Mooney and her middle name is Sunshine

They're set up in Kerrville, Texas but have different cameras available in different parts of the US. I think that's also right at the crossing of where April's total eclipse will be.
