Sounds like the Canopy Adventure is full. Darn, that is the one excursion I wanted to book through Disney since we are leaving our son on board. I have read that those who book privately are walked out and board the same boat as the Disney excursion, but not sure I am willing to risk it. If it is booked, then we will have to just keep checking as it gets closer for cancellations.
We have ziplined once before, but this one sounded so fun.[/QUOTE]

I don't know if you were talking about the zip line in Puerto Vallarta but I just checked online and as of right now it is still available. We have booked this also. My husband will love it....I'm not so sure...:scared1:

On our last cruise, to Alaska, in a couple of ports we had to wait for returning port adventurers. One time it was up to 30 mins later than scheduled. That one just happened to be the one my son, daughter, and grandson were on. We waited because they were booked through DCL. I don't think we would have waited if they weren't.

I just booked us a few chairs at the Tropicante. Here is the email I got from Steve if you want to look into this. I saw it on the disboards. You just have to eat there and you can use his chairs and I heard the massages were awesome.

As for how to find us, you can catch a taxi from outside or inside the port facility and we recommend you take the outside taxis. Shuttles and taxi vans from inside charge $3 (they can be talked down the $2 if you say you are going outside)
Mahahual, the name of our town, means Mayberry in Mayan!
If you have not seen my site yet, be sure to check it out http://www.sandalsandskis.com/Tropicante.html

Come hungry, we really do have the best food in town, and get ready for the best beach day of your trip! Let me know if you have other questions and I’ll look forward to meeting you guys December 21st. Cheers!
Steve Uhl 719-387-8115 (US call that rings here in Mahahual)

Wow, this looks Amazing! I really want to do the Ruins Tour and my husband really wants to paddle board and this is the first place I've seen for that. We should have time for both. Does anyone know where we can paddle board in Cartagena or Puerto Vallarta?

OK - I have a question about booking brunch at Palo on the Canal Day...

Don't you think that the entire railing will be lined with people the whole time and the only thing you will see are people's backsides? That was one reason that I didn't book brunch for that day but now I'm wondering if my reasoning is wrong...

Oh, good point...I thought I read somewhere on DIS or on this thread that Palo Brunch on Canal day was a good chance to have a nice view because of how the windows are in Palo. Does anyone remember this? Now I'm trying to remember if there is a railing there....

No, even during the castaway parties, there is always room to see and move around on deck.

I asked the same question, pretty much, in an earlier post and got great info. It sounds like there will be a lot of hoopla, and a barbeque, on deck during the crossing. I am going to opt for the PC BBQ and hoopla and catch brunch another time, even though the Palo view would be awesome.

Less than 3 months to go, even Liz is getting excited about this cruise!

Can someone remind me when the cut off date for the FE sign up is? And are we still looking at splitting the group? I need to start planning soon but don't want to make/buy too many or too few...

We plan to head that way around 10am. He has free wi-fi. Hoping to take our tablet with us that day. you can also use his phone for free!

We'll be heading to Tropicante around 10 am as well!

I had the same concern, and there will be a great bbq on deck, so no Palo for us that day.

Us too. I think we are at 10:30.

we did 10:30.

We also have Palo brunch booked for our first sea day as that is our anniversary.
An unscheduled Dis brunch!

We're at 12:00, beginning our meal as you early-birds will undoubtedly be winding down, but we'd be happy to start with dessert as a sign of Dis solidarity :thumbsup2

FE RELATED QUESTION: Is there anyone on the FE list with a nut allergy?

Canal Crossing Day
The only place people 'homestead' is right at the front of Deck 10, where they can film facing forward. But even there, they will let you pop in for a quick photo, as long as you don't attempt to set up camp in "their" spot. Other than that, the crowd is pretty fluid. It gets hot in the sun. The kids aren't interested in scenery, however historic, and would rather be in the pool. You know how that is.

IF you want to be one of those people at the very front of the ship, I can't tell you how early you need to be there - maybe all night. When I came up at 5 am, still deep dark in January, the bow was already packed.

It's like a 12 hour parade, and we're the float? (No pun intended). They stay for the entire time??? Wow!!!!

Thanks Linda! At least there is no way for people to put towels down to save 20 seats. ;) I guess we will re-book Palo and just do the BBQ.

Thanks for posting your experience, Linda. Over the next 90 days I will have to try to convince the hubby that he needs to get up in the middle of the night to secure a place so that I can just pop in and out, using the kids at the pool rationale. I just can't imagine hanging out in the same place for that many hours even for something as amazing as the canal. Of course, I've never been one to wait in lines for day-after-Thanksgiving shopping either. Speaking of shopping, I have started to tackle the holiday shopping list. Santa is going to have to be finished up a little earlier this year!

Ha! Ha! I was thinking the same thing....

I can't believe that Disney has not yet found a way to sell some type of "enhanced viewing package" for canal day and cashed in on the transit. I know I would pay a premuim for something like that!

Well, they kind of did....they are called verandah staterooms!

So, if Palo is aft, and has a railing where people could potentially stand, it's not the best viewing point at all. Don't the treadmills or ellipticals in the gym look right off the front of the ship, with no obstructions at all? I thought I read somewhere that it's like you are gliding across the ocean. So maybe the way to get a great view is to go workout! :rotfl2:

Hi all! Had a wonderful time in Hawaii! None of us wanted to come home. Now just trying to get back into our routine. We didn't do the helicopter tour. It was pretty expensive plus wasn't sure my kids would enjoy it. We started the count down chain yesterday. We are also doing Tropicante in Costa Maya. Maybe we can all head their together. Do you guys have kids? I have a DD 6 and DS 4. I also wondered if we would break the FE groups apart? I can't imagine bringing things for 60 cabins!

October 9th I believe is still the FE cut off date and when the split decision will be made.

Hawaii sounds like a lovely trip!

I have a DS (just turned 6) and a DD (13 months). I thought we might work on putting together a countdown chain over the next weekend. Is your DD in first grade or kindergarten? My DS is in first grade. I haven't yet had the chat with his teacher regarding being out of school for 9 days on the trip, which is followed by christmas break, so he is going to be out of school for four weeks overall. I think he will be difficult to get back into the groove once January rolls around. His teacher has four sons, so I am hoping she is going to be understanding about wanting to take a family trip. I am going to have to get her a very nice Christmas gift.

If you send me a PM with your email I'll send you the countdown chain we made. It has a Disney character for each day. Someone sent it to me years ago. We use it every time we do a DCL. My DD is in kindergarten. We talked with the principal last year when we were deciding if we were going to do the cruise or not. Since kindergarten isn't required in CO he was totally fine with it. When I emailed the teacher about us missing 4 days last week for Hawaii I went ahead and told her about the cruise too. We asked her if there was anything we could have DD do. She suggested bringing money and stuff back so that she could share about it with the class. I'm sure things would've been different if she was in 1st grade to be honest with you. Good luck!

Our DD's are 4 and 7 and we're going to the Tropicante too.

I LOVE the view from the gym on the classic ships! On the Magic, the spin bikes faced the windows and there was just something magical about pulling into Malta (you pass by cliffs and old forts to get to the port) while taking a spin class. It just made me feel so alive and thankful that I could could experiance this and that I was healthy and able to particpate in the spin class. We were on the cruise during the 1 yr anniversary of my Dad's passing and I had my enlightenment right then and there. My sister was on the bike next to me in shock, I am not an emotional person so my sister rarely sees me express emotions (she jokes and says she has never seen me cry). I like to think dehydration played a roll...anyway the point is, the view from the gym is amazing!

On the Fantasy, I was so disappointed when the spin bikes faced a corner and all I saw was a wall. It was a lot harder dragging myself to those classes.

We are going to Hawaii Summer '14 for my co-worker's wedding (she is from Hawaii) and I can't wait! Glad to hear you had a wonderful time.

I have completed homemade gifts for the kids for all the cabins but I am just starting the adult gifts, which will be very time consuming. Hopefully, I will find the time to complete them. I am also in charge of my sister's cabin's FE, so I am sad to report, that the FE from their cabin will be small, lightweight and most likely ordered! But in my defense, be glad you are getting something from them, if left up to my sister, it would have been forgotten. My sister and I are best friends but we are complete opposites! She is extermely disorganized and leaves everything to the last minute. Her non planning drives me nuts and my planning drives her nuts! We really have nothing in common. If we didn't look somewhat alike, no one would believe we are sisters and were raised by the same parents. Our career paths clearly show our differances (she works in the fashion industry and I'm in engineering)

My DH has given up on me finishing the book, the Path between the Seas, before we leave (I'm only 35% complete) so he went out and borrowed a paper version of the book from our neighbor. I have a lot of upcoming traveling so hopefull I will make some progress.
