princess: Princess dresses -- to pack or not to pack??? Other moms of young girls, what do you plan to do, or what have you done in the past? I have a 7 year old DD and a 10 year old DD (will be merely days away from being 11 while on the cruise). I already have dressy dresses (not costumes) for them to wear to formal dinners. They have outgrown/worn out the Disney princess costumes that we have already. Trust me, they look ratty. I would definitely have to buy new ones, and I'm not sure I want to spend the money or use the luggage space. On the other hand, I don't want my girls to feel like they are missing out. Our cruise is a surprise, so I can't ask their opinion. We haven't been on a Disney cruise before, so I'm not sure how prevalent dressing like a princess is. If you went on DCL and did not take a princess costume for your DD, did you regret it?

My DD is 6. She has a bunch of nice Disney princess dresses. I pack them all. They are puffy but super light. She wears them to the dinners and then to the princess fair and princess tea. She will wear the Cinderella wedding gown and Rapunzel wedding gown for formal night. They are both pretty fancy. I don't think your DD's would feel left out if they didn't have them on. She just loves the princesses at this age and already has them. If you do decide to buy them Disney always clearances them out after Halloween. So, I'd look there. You can get them for about 1/2 of what they are going at now. I've never not taken the dresses in the 6 we've done. So, can't answer that question. Sorry!

My girls were 11 and 12 on their first cruise and they much preferred the real formals over Disney princess dresses with no regrets. It's tough for you because the younger may prefer Disney while the older may prefer formal. You know your daughters best, what do they want to be for Halloween this year? If they both want to be Disney princesses, there's your answer. If not, you may want to go formal. Not all little ones wear the princess dresses so in no way will they miss out if they are in formals vs. princess dresses. Good luck either way!

As for Princess dresses - I guess it depends on whether your girls love to dress up. On our last cruise there was a young girl who came to dinner in a different dress almost every night, and she looked great - but our daughter has never been keen on dressing up and has never felt like the odd one out. Some dress up, some don't!

LindaBabe - I'll send you a PM about the scrapping meet.

My DD 4 can take 2 dresses (cinderella and belle)
We will buy some new dresses onboard! (rapunzel for sure and maybe aurora)
She really like to dress up, but last WBTA alot of little girls didn't so they won't be left out!!!!

I have to agree with the others - it all depends on your DD's - I would probably say yes for the younger one, but no for the older one. That is great tip to look for them at the Disney store after Halloween.

Funny. We said the same thing about Dorney Park near Allentown when we were there last weekend. They charge $15 to park with it being a free-for-all to find a space and no tram. And they have no understanding of how to deal with crowds. The employees operating one of the trains, along with two supervisors, held up the ride and hundreds of guests already waiting on the train or still standing in line for about 15 minutes while they argued with a woman who was cursing about an unhappy experience she had. Disney would have dealt with the situation much differently.

Oh my, I forgot about Dorney Park - they could use a huge lesson from Disney in Customer Service - that place is terrible!

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

No new news this morning but I wanted to say hello.

Princess dresses - lots of little girls wear them, but Grandma wouldn't rush out to buy new ones if yours are outgrown. If you can get a couple for a bargain after halloween, maybe? But the 10 yo may feel she's outgrown that sort of thing. Also, think about the photo ops - the princesses are colorful - the photos with them of my granddaughters wearing dark velvet dresses were wonderful.

Scrappy meet gals -I'm only missing a couple emails before I create a mailing list and start the email discussion of who what where when.

Who is staying where before the cruise? I'll be at the Doubletree in San Pedro from Friday. Looking forward to the aquarium and maritime museum.

Happy Day, all!

I think we stay @ the sunrise hotel in San Pedro from friday... Wanna go to the aquarium and some shopping on saturday...
What's the weather like in Cal and ofcourse during our cruise, will it be warm? Can you tell in Celcius instead of Farenheit!:beach:
Should I pack summer clothes? Or will we need long sleeves and such?
Just 10 more days and we will be in de double digits :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

We will be staying at the Grand Californian at Disneyland from Dec 3-9. Planning on leaving early on Sunday morning to go to the port. Looking into going by limo. If anyone is staying at DL prior to the cruise that may want to share a ride to the port, let me know. It will by my husband and myself.

We just stayed at the Grand Californian in July. I have some recommendations. The little deli by the pool served a chicken and poblano pepper sandwich, it was so good I had it twice. I also had a great martini in their bar. I actually had one every day after the grandkids went to bed. :cool1:
We loved that hotel and will definitely stay there again.pixiedust: Sherry

It could be chilly in LA - even down right cold at night, so you'll want at least a sweatshirt or light to midweight jacket and long pants for the early days of the trip - I'll say low 20s in celcius during the day, mid to upper teens at night, with wind. Cruising to Hawaii in May, I wore long pants/ crops daily until we got to Hawaii. Same applies in Florida.

The canal zone especially out in the sun, should be nice and warm. Low 20's at night to mid 30's during the day. Possibility of rain.

DD and I are flying in late on the 8th so we are taking a shuttle from LAX to the Crowne and going from there.

Not sure where I'm staying before the cruise. I'll be in LA for two nights prior to boarding. I might stay with friends or even my Ex. :rotfl: But I might just get a hotel room somewhere too for ease of coming and going. I plan on visiting some of my favorite stores and restaurants while I have a chance!

We found a great rate at one of the Hyatt hotels by the port. We will be flying in on the 8th and staying there the night. Then off to cruise. It still seems so far away. Can't wait. Sherry

Hi Fellow Cruisers!

Our group of 11 will all be staying at the San Pedro Inn & Suites Hotel, we found a great rate and appreciate the free shuttle. I've never been to San Pedro so I guess we'll just walk around the marina Saturday and see what is there.

Are far as dress up dresses, since my daughter will be barely 2 I was on the fence if I should find her a dress up dress/costume or just put her in fancy dress for formal nights. Perhaps a Minnie Mouse dress up costume, great idea to check the Halloween sales!

I started reading the Panama book "The Path Between the Seas" and am blown away by all the drama and challenges they faced so far. I'm already like 25% through this superbly written book I'm so addicted!

We've got ears, say cheers! -Laurie

Whitewater Snacks! We eat outside on the patio there when we want a little 'escape' from the hustle and bustle of the parks. The chicken nachos (enough for two) are my favorite!
