Since today is the best day for fireworks, that reminds me of another question. Will there be fireworks on board the Wonder? I know Disney does fireworks really well and would love to see some while at sea. Thanks Sherry

Wow - go away for two weeks and come back to find 15 pages of new posts!

Just got off the Wonder a week ago - Alaska was absolutely beautiful. We had perfect weather (we kept joking we'd brought it with us from Australia!), and the scenery was jaw-droppingly beautiful! Saw whales, dolphins, eagles, seals and even a bear & it's cub.

When we sailed up Tracy Arm, the mountains were so close, I felt I could reach out and touch them - I think passing through the Canal will be a similar amazing experience. Best surprise - our server on our very first cruise was on board, so now we have bumped into Claudia every year for the last 2 years on different Disney boats, it felt like catching up with family!

Felt great to hop off on the last day and be able to say "see you in 6 months!", but given how many pounds we put on after 1 week on the Wonder, I'd hate to think what we'll be like after 14 days of that great food!

If there is someone on the boards who is making lanyards can you please repost the information. I have read everything since the first post and don't remember anything about lanyards. Of course as a new Disney cruiser I will admit I was taking in so much information it made my head spin.:rotfl:
Thanks. Sherry

I believe the person that said something about making the lanyards was still considering booking the cruise and not yet already booked on it. From what I remember, she said she'd consider spear heading them if they did decide to book. :)

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Yes, we are fine with whatever inside room we get. It was nice to save some money and feel like we have a bit more to spend on things like adult beverages, spa, souvenirs and the like. I also agree that there is no rhyme or reason to upgrades. I honestly wonder if they randomly generate a list of passengers/parties and then look at what that party currently has and see if they can arrange an upgrade or not. I doubt they put too much work into figuring out how often you sail, when the last time you sailed was, are you DVC or CC or which level, etc. That could be a lot of work.

So, to the person who asked about in-port upgrade. I have been researching it here on DIS and here is what I know:

1) You can't count on it, because if the ship is full or there are no nicer rooms available, there will be a sign saying there are no upgrades on the cruise.
2) You want to get to the port as soon as you can to check in, then get in the upgrade line.
3) If upgrades are happening, then each time someone moves up, it frees up the cabin they had for someone else to upgrade to.
4) The price REALLY varies, and no one should count on anything, but IN GENERAL, the cost is 1/3 to 1/2 of the price difference between the cabin you booked and the cabin you want.
5) Also, the price is the same regardless of your family size, so it is an even better savings for those with more than two adults in the room.
6) If you booked a GT category (I, O or V), the base price is the lowest room you COULD have been assigned to and not the one you were actually assigned to. (Though this is the most confusing part and there seems to be some disagreement on the DIS about this.)
7) Basically, you get in line and the CM shows you a chart with what it would cost you to upgrade to categories above what you have and you decide if it's worth it to you or not.

My feeling is that it never hurts to ask and see what the price is. Some people have upgraded to the really nice suites. For us, personally, of course I would love something nicer than a 10 or 11, but we just want to go on this cruise. We paid what we feel we can afford and were thankful for the IGT.

Right now, the economy still isn't great, we have en election coming up and that always affects things, and DH's company may ask everyone to take a week off without pay. So, we'll just sit tight with our IGT.

But, by sailing time, things may have improved all around and we may feel we have the funds to splurge on an upgrade, if one is available. And if not, there are plenty of other ways to spend money on the cruise! :)

Brilliant Analysis! :thumbsup2 This should go in the FAQ sticky at the top of the cruise board!

We went to a cookout party yesteday. Even though I was mostly good, I did eat 3 bites of something containing wheat before I thought. This morning, the scales was right back where I started:sad2: Is anyone else dieting? What are you doing to lose weight? How is it working for you?

Happy Day, all!

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Is anyone else dieting? What are you doing to lose weight? How is it working for you?

Happy Day, all!

My DH and I are dieting. We are going by weight watchers portions and recipes and some of the Biggest Loser recipes. So far since January of this year, I have lost 36 lbs. We are also walking about a mile a day. So it seems to be working. We have been staying away from white potatoes and pastas and using wheat instead, but sparingly. ( portions on pasta aren't very filing) With you keeping away from wheat, that should be pretty easy. It has helped my cholesterol numbers greatly and I feel a lot better.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th.

Linda

I lost about 60 lbs three years ago and have kept it off. After I got married in September, I have gained about 5 lbs. I am going to jump back on the dieting bandwagon shortly to lose the 5 lbs and maybe a few extra before the cruise. When I first lost all my weight, my biggest change was giving up soda and only drinking water. I now drink about a gallon of water a day and drink 2 glasses before every meal. I did not give up wheat but switched to whole wheat pasta and started to become very active. I also watch my portion size.
I spend my 4th of July at camp belaying girls all day long on the climbing wall and high ropes course. I was a hot sweaty mess and now my arms are shot. No lifting for me for a few days. We ended the day with a huge picnic for all the girls where I believe I "temporary" tattooed at least 100 American flags onto girls faces. It was a great day. Now back to my real job....

:welcome: Here's hoping you pull the trigger and book the cruise! :thumbsup2
We are also an adoptive family (I attended my daughter's birth), and we homeschool! :) How old are your children?

I'm hoping we will book it in the next couple of days. Still working through a few details. I'm glad I found this site, because it is a wealth of information! I have to admit that while watching fireworks last night, I paged through the thread with the food pictures -- yum!

Our oldest DD is ten but will turn 11 right after the cruise ends. Oldest DS is eight. Younger DS is seven, and youngest DD is also seven.

The youngest two are not twins. As an adoptive family, we have an unusual age span. For part of the year our young son is the same age as his older brother, and for half the year, he is the same age as his younger sister. :crowded:

I think there are a few other families with kids in our age range, so hopefully they will make some good new friends!

We really depend on the nametags to identify other Dissers, but found on our last cruise that the Disnames were too small! Somehow, staring at people's chests and squinting to identify them just seemed wrong :laughing::laughing:.

I can try to help make these as well. I know we get lanyards, but you could slip these in the back. So then you just have 1 thing around your neck. We always have ours on. I keep my key in it. Then you won't have to laminate it.

Or we have a laminator here at my office and I have a pack of the pages that I bought. I could do some to help out.

When we did Alaska with my Aunt and her friends I made everyone one and people kept asking where we got them. I should have brought extra to sell!!

Does anyone know if we get bottles, like the sippie kind on this cruise in the Castaway gift. These will be my 5th Disney Cruise. Last year we brought some and ended up each getting one. We love to tote them around to the pool and well Castaway Cay. –super sad to not be stopping there this trip.

We’d like to be part of the ornament exchange. Does it need to be Disney? Or can It be just any ornament?

And also we’d like to be part of the stateroom crawl. We are IGT, so have no idea what our number is or will be. We are uses to 11s and 12s, once we had a 6.

I have some plain black lanyards. I don't have the little plastic holder though. I bought a pack at Office Depot and they were super cheap and they would tear. I can help with design. I could also laminate some, I don't want to do like 50, but if we had first time people I could do some and bring them.

Castaway people could use the back of the one we get from Disney.

I have a question about packing. :laundy:

On other non-Disney cruises, I have been cold in the dining rooms and theater in the evenings, due to the air conditioning. Can anyone comment on the temperature on the Wonder? Two of my children are often cold in regular restaurants, so I'm wondering if I should plan on long sleeves and/or sweaters for their evening wear.

My name is Jamie and I am an over-packer. BUT one thing I would not leave at home is a simple wrap to use in the dining rooms and other venues. We have only done one DCL but several other lines and plenty of times I have needed something over bare arms.

I was on the Wonder in December and found it to be cool inside, so I was glad I had long sleeves.

Sounds like you had a fabulous time! An Alaskan cruise is on my bucket list!

Was Claudia from England? We had Claudia from England as our ***'t server on the Wonder in December, and she was fabulous. She told us she was being considered as a Disney princess and she certainly is that! :)

I find the temperatures in the dining rooms and theater are usually chilly--until they're full of people. I almost always bring a sweater or a lightweight jacket so that I can take it off as the room warms up.
