Thanks for the recipe I will try these this week. :stir: I really try to experiment with our meals but seem to make the same meals over and over.

I am trying to follow a slow carb meal plan. Lots of beans! This recipe fits right into my lifestyle change (I try to avoid the word diet). But am down 14 pounds.

Apparently, most people typically make the same 10 things - I know I do.
burger in some form, pork chops, fish, steak, chicken, ham, and the occasional sausage or turkey, repeat.

Low carbing DOEs become a lifestyle change. After 3 years of shopping the supermarket 'edges' we couldn't go back to the old way. And when we DO, like cruising, we pay with weight gain and lots of naps.

I hope my DH isn't reading this or you might be having a dinner guest. He loves pork chops and I am NOT a fan, he learned this after he cooked me pork chops during one of our first dates. Now he gets excited everytime I leave on a business trip because he makes himself enough prok chops to last him for the time I am away.

DH does all the cooking in our house and he tends to mix it up a bit. He is recently into things involving pasta since he just got the pasta maker attachment for our kitchen aide mixer and enjoys making pasta.

I would be happy eating a bowl of ceral everynight if it meant I didn't have to cook!

Big plans brewing at our house. Tonight is the first of my daughters birthday parties. princess: She is having a skating party with 7 friends. Skating, laser tag and a rock climbing wall as well as a visit to Teddy Bear Land(Build a Bear knock off).
I say first because we leave on Friday for her Adoption Group reunion in South Carolina and will celebrate her real birthday with the 4 of the girls that shared the first year of her life. All this for turning 9, can't wait to see Sweet Sixteen.....Wait.....Oh yes I can! :scared:!
And speaking of my sweet daughter. She has an ADHD diagnosis. To avoid meds we use dietary methods to deal with it. We avoid white sugar and dairy. She was tested for gluten/wheat sensitivity but had no problems with that. Since she avoids them, we all do because it is just easier. It makes such a difference in her behavior and attention span!(not to mention mom and dad's waistline) As a result we find ourselves eating mainly meat, veggies and fruit. It works out great during the school year but summer we slack. So we have all gained a few lbs and she is a little more 'energetic'. Mid August we will go back to the better way of eating to prepare for school after Labor Day.
OK I have rambled enough to avoid party prep :coffee:.

Can anyone tell me about pin trading on the ship? I know there will be times scheduled for this, but how popular is it? I've looked at the starter kits, and it seems pretty expensive to get our four kids started on this if will not really be a big deal on the ship. On the other hand, we don't want them to miss out if it is a popular thing to do. I see we can buy a bigger lot of pins on e-bay, which would probably be the way to go if we do decide to go for it. Any thoughts?

My girls were big pin traders at WDW for many years. Honestly I can say in that in all the DCL cruises we have been on, we never traded a pin or saw a pin trading event. I don't even remember anyone wearing lanyards with pins. I'm sure there must be pin trade events/opportunities, but I don't think your kids will miss out on anything.

My boys love the Pin trading!
There are several events held in the Atrium for pin trading usually advertised in the Navigators and the CM's are good at trading their pins also in the shops onboard the CM's have landyards each with pins they will trade.
Colette

ETA: We never bought the starter kits we just used our own landyards and bought some pins to start them trading we often go with pins from Ebay, pins that they are not to bothered about and they swap for pins they like onboard and save their best ones in their pin trading albums.

We just booked this cruise. We were originally booked on the westbound repo in May 2013 but circumstances caused us to rebook on this one.

Shout out to socababy who we sailed with on the Nov 2011 MR cruise.

Pin Trading....a subject I love.

On our only Disney cruise last June, I never even thought about taking trading pins. ( I know, I know rookie mistake.) We were in one of the shops one evening looking at pins to add to our collection and hubby struck up a conversation with a CM. The CM had a pin on his lanyard of The Colonel from the Adventurer's Club. They were laughing a talking about all the fun they had had there and how much they missed it. I went over to see what the fun was and the CM took off his pin and GAVE it to me. I was so surprised and touched. I made sure to give him extra praise on our comment cards. He truly spread the pixie dust.

For those staying in Miami/Ft Lauderdale post cruise, I just booked a room through Hotwire using the unname hotel feature and ended up with the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood Beach for only $127 plus $21.99 in taxes/fees :cool1:.

Usually there is a server with pins in front of each restaurant during mealtime and a CM in the shops that will trade pins. The only event that I have seen consistently is the officer pin trading on Captain's Gala night. A word of caution about buying on Ebay, I attended a pin trading workshop last year and the presenter said most of the pins selling in bulk on Ebay are fake and not genuine Disney trading pins. She went on to name a few ways to tell them apart but frankly, the differences are too subtle for unsophisticated pin trader like me to notice.

Welcome mug318ca!

Hi, all! Yes it was me that mentioned the lanyards before. We are still hoping to join you all on this cruise but probably won't know for another week or two. I am keeping up with all the posts though so I'm not waaaay behind when we do join.

Here is a picture of a couple of lanyards we have had in the past. The red one is the one I did last year and the total cost per lanyard/hook/badge holder is $1.29. You still need to do the insert with names. They have worked out really well on the other cruises as you could spot another Disboard member and they were conversation starters.

I hope this helps. If anyone wants the info on these just pm me.

I hope you have a great summer and as soon as I know if DH and I are going I will make sure and let everyone know! I won't be able to keep it a secret, that's for sure!

:wave2: Welcome! Bummer you had to change your original plans but the good news is that you swapped one long cruise for another and the best news is that this one is sooner! :thumbsup2

For those of you doing DCL excursions, what is everyone planning on doing?

Shore Excursions: we plan on doing both the mayan ruins and Cartagena tours that follow disers have put together. We will also probably do Paradise Beach in PV. It was great last time and I felt safe.

This may seem a bit sad but I have never made a gingerbread house, is this only available for the kids or can anyone get tickets?:confused3
