Ooooooooooooooooh! Oriental Trading has a STORE????

Oh yes they have a retail store in Omaha, Nebraska. It's called Nobbies. I love to go there every time I go to see my mom. They have alot of overstock stuff but alot of the stuff is out of the current catalogs. Always a fun shopping experience. Sherry

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Hopefully everyone weathered yesterday's storms ok? We lost power for a few hours, but the generator kicked in after 15 seconds.

. . .
Now I can really start getting involved in finalizing all my plans for this cruise, so that I can get on to planning my transatlantic cruise, and planning my newly booked Alaska cruise (LindaBabe, I see you're already on that one!).

I have to go back and get caught up on the last few days of posts here!

Beth

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

Yes, the Alaska AND the California Coastline cruise to follow. Might as well let them carry me back to LA!

I updated the Roll Call and Canal Certificates list per Liz's latest updates on pg. 6 of this thread and added a nice photo of Gilland18 and her DH. Also added a "DISboard Dining" meet to the Meets page and have added those of us that are dining together in Early Seating. Any that would like to join us, simply PM or email me your names and reservation number and I will link them so we can sit together. I know some in the late seating are also linking their dining and I can add those to the Late Seating section if someone would send me the information. Also added under the "Info" tab the info I'd posted earlier about formal and semi-formal dining evenings and the Disney shows that will be included. ::yes::

Thank you Jeff! You're doing a great job!:thumbsup2

Edited to add this quote From Eric's recount of the same sailing Beth was on - in answer to someone's question about Jewish Sabbeth services.
We are not-very-religious, but traditional Jews. It was nice to see that they offered a space on Friday night for sabbath observers to do a "guest led" sabbath service if so desired. However, on Rosh Hashanah (which started last night) - one of the three biggest Jewish holidays of the year -- there was no mention whatsoever (like, "Happy Holiday to our Jewish guests", or anything of the sort) - and, oddly, no similar "guest led" option for those who wanted to observe the holiday before dinner. Why offer a place for the sabbath, but not the holy holiday? Frankly, it was just a slight bit insulting. On the positive side, we asked for honey and apple for our table (a Jewish tradition for this holiday) - which was cheerfully supplied by the great dining staff. We were also met with very genuine "Happy New Year" greetings from the same staff - which was very nice.

Happy Day, all!

We are doing the late seating - me, DH and DD-14 - if anyone would like to share a table with us please let me know.

We had great DIS tablemates on our recent Magic cruise - they made our dining experience extra special (we haven't been as lucky on our previous cruises - we've had non english speaking tablemates, a teenager from He**, and a bratty toddler who didn't stop whining the entire trip).

We would like to hook up with you. We are just 2 - me and DW.

Hi all...

Since October 9th is the cut-off for FE, I will also make that the cut-off for PC Certificates to make things easier on everyone (ordering instructions forthcoming).

I need the group's feedback on one issue...

On the certificate, there is an area for the Captain's information. We have three choices:
1) Leave it blank
2) Print Captain's name
3) Print Captain's signature

I reached out to Concierge Services to get their insight, and they suggest Option 1, as the Captain can change. I asked if the Captain would be willing to sign them, and they believe he would (at his leisure).

So if we leave them blank, how does everyone want to do this? We can go with the original plan of passing them out at the Meet & Greet at 3p on Embarkation Day, and then everyone is in charge of getting their own certificate signed (either by dropping it off at Guest Services, or attending one of the Captain's autograph sessions). Or, I can submit the whole pile of certificates at the start of the cruise, he can sign them at his leisure, and then we can plan another distribution time/place on a sea day during the 2nd week.

Thoughts?
Sorry for a late reply, and I haven't read through all the postings made while I was away, but I think we should have the Captain sign all of them at once. I think that would leave him at least a little bit of time to work on fun things like driving the ship:rotfl:! Beth

I'm all caught up and ready and raring to go!

I have the busiest two months of the year at work, with too many reports/plans to complete and not enough time to do them, one business trip (a convention in Atlantic City), the Thanksgiving holiday to deal with, decorating my apartment for Christmas, and then I'll really need this trip!

Beth

I have not had any luck searching for Christmas specific door magnet ideas. Can anyone give me some hints about how to search for this?

Thanks!

Go to the bottom of post number one to see her shared files - that's where I've downloaded the ones we're going to use. They're fun to personalize in Photoshop too. I've also made luggage tags, a door topper, and miscellaneous other fun things. Have fun!

Hmmm, I can see some very cute graphics, just not Christmas ones.

I know that someday I'll get the hang of how these threads work...

OK. Here is Milliepie's 4 shared album
http://www.4shared.com/u/ubUSl7-Y/Milliepie.html

Over on the right hand side of the page, you'll see a list of her albums. Scroll down until you get to holiday, or the holiday you want. Click it to open. There are a bazillion (more or less) images, sub files etc. Find the one you want and download it.

If you need it customized, then go to Milliepie's thread, listed above and reference the exact image you want, along with the customization.

Is that more clear?

We will use a Christmas stocking for our FE. I've been compiling my FE gifts and making sure they are all small and light. But when you make a pile of stuff for 65 cabins, it really starts to pile up! I am thinking of putting them all in a box and shipping them there.

Thanks again for all the coordinators of our special events. You guys are GREAT!! :lovestruc

I just switched our February sailing on the Fantasy to this amazing PC cruise!!

We had booked the Fantasy quite a while ago and then our oldest son decided to do a GAP year excursion to Ghana, West Africa for six months and is currently scheduled to return while we would have been away on the Fantasy. Neither my husband nor I could bear the thought that we wouldn't be home when he returned, so we looked around and keeping in mind our nine year old's comment last year when he realized we were packing at the end of our 7 day Western Caribbean cruise on the Magic, "WHAT???? Next time we need to cruise for TWICE as long!!" we decided to join you all on this Panama Canal cruise.

We (DH, Alan, me, Mary Lou & DS Liam (9) are feeling pretty excited after reading through some of the discussion posts. We want to sign up for the FE, join the roll call, do the ornament exchange (for just me) and hopefully it's not too late to order a Canal certificate--I'll go conservative!!

This is my first post after lurking for more than a year so I'm not able to PM yet. Hopefully this post will be enough to get me started.

Can't wait to meet you all, I feel like I know so many of you already after reading through SO MANY posts!!:wave2:

Now I have to get going on booking all my excursions. And join up on the FB page as well!!

Welcome to some fellow Canadians! There will be a few of us on the ship. DH and I live in Ottawa now but we lived in Regina for 5 years in the early 90's. It was a great place to live if you didn't mind the 30 below winters or the plagues of mosquitos in the summer. Actually, we found that mid-west people were very warm and welcoming and I made some great friendships in those years. Also our DD was born there so Saskatchewan holds a special place in my heart. I look forward to meeting you on the cruise.

Thanks for posting that, Linda. This will show my level of ingorance on creative/crafty things, but can someone tell me once you have the graphics how do you get them onto magnets. Do you go to the photo printer (e.g., Walgreens or Costco) and have them do it or do you buy special stuff to print and make them yourself? And is there any difference between traditional shaped magnets and what you would need to do if you were going to do the Mickey ears you can put on your door above the number? I'm envisioning an exacto knife or something.

Also, does anyone know if Disney has transportation from Miami to WDW (and where to find details re cost of that) or if you're simply better off renting a minivan (for a family of 4 -- me, DW, DD (8) and DS (6))? We're now thinking of extending our trip and had never really considered this at the time of booking.

Now that we're within weeks of the cruise I've finally turned to reading The Path Between the Seas -- fascinating stuff!

Hi LPT, We could not find a better deal for our party of 5 than to rent a Minivan to go from Miami to WDW. Hertz didn't have any vans left to reserve so I went with Dollar who also has a shuttle bus from the Miami port to the rental office.

I am also reading The Path Between the Seas, about 60% through it and really hope to finish by November!! The story of the canal really is about all the people and the various roles they played. Never expected so much back room schmoozing and complex politicking behind the actual build. Happy Reading!

I have used magnetic paper and printed on my home printer and it has worked well for me. I also printed some on photo paper and put magnetic tape pieces on the back. And I've tried card stock with magnetic tape on the back. They all worked well.

I need to stop working on the FE and start reading again, I am still at 33%. I want to finish it before the cruise!

About 10 years ago the City hired this amazing man who actually knew how to control the mosquito infestation (without using toxic chemicals!!) and it's been pretty blissful ever since. Sadly, the cold, cold winters are still a fact of life here.

I was pretty horrified when my husband said that Regina would be our next stop, but we have really learned to love it here.

Can't wait to meet you as well.

That explains everything!! I found exactly what I am looking for--and much, much more!!!

Now to begin what I am sure will a long and laborious process of actually creating all of these!

Thank you so much.

So after several days of lurking this thread I am posting... We booked this cruise in May while on the Wonder, it will be me (Holly) and BF Jonathan. By the time we cruise it will be my fourth and his sixth with DCL!

We may want to do the fish extenders (but will check with J) and I would love to do the ruins tour. :)
