Ebay--What is with people????

I havent run into any crazy one yet but I imagine at some point I will. I try to make things as fair as I can when it comes to shipping. I weigh it at home and use paypal to ship so I add .33 for my packing fee on top of the shipping. I did have a newbie win two of my auctions as buy it now items and she didnt ask for combined shipping but I refunded her a $1.00 anyhow to be nice. I always like it when a seller combines my shipping and it makes me want to do more business with them in the future! :sunny:

Ok it seems like you guys are experts. I'm new and have sent emails before and after I have won an item asking about combining shipping for multiple item and never get an answer(just this week for one) . I would often bid on more of their items if they would just answer. Whats up with that, it sounds like from your posts that this is ok to do. Why not answer?:earsgirl:

granmanh603,

I think it's absolutely ok to ask about combined shipping but you should get an answer from the seller BEFORE bidding if it's important to you. A seller isn't obligated to do it unless it's stated in their auction and isn't bound to a certain cost unless they stated that too (and then you wouldn't be asking). I guess it's possible sometimes that an email doesn't make it to a seller but if it were me, and a seller didn't answer my question within a reasonable time, I'd probably look for another seller or pass on the item(s).

If you go ahead and bid without a committment for combined shipping, you run the risk of having to pay what's stated in each auction. So only you can decide if that's a risk you want to take . . .

Good luck :)

Thanks for answering me!!!!! That is what I have been doing, if I don't get an answer I don't bid anymore on their stuff. I just go someplace else. I just figured Maybe I was doing something wrong. I usually click right on the" ask seller a question " link right on the page of the item I bought. So I guess I'm doing the right thing. Thanks again. I just couldn't figures why they wouldn't answer.....I guess they don't mind losing a sale. :earsgirl:

Regarding people who ask a question never bidding - it's most likely that they have more than one id. I have a selling id and two buying ids (one is so my family can't see any surprises that I may be getting for them). I almost never ask a question from the id I am bidding with. I know several other people who do the same thing.

I sometimes wait until after I win the auction if its a last minute auction. I have never been turned down. Most time I do ask during the time of the auction.I remember the seller that goes out of their way to combine and will keep them in my favorites for return business

Seems like you would be better off (esp with moving) to just donate what you want and use them as a tax write off.
Sometimes it just is not worth the trouble to sell on Ebay or by garage sale.

There are times that I would really like to be able respond, "this ISN"T a garage sale. Sales don't go down here, they go up. That's why it's called an AUCTION!"

You're welcome granmanh603. I know some people have problems with spam filters and aol for some reason - you'd think if they're selling on ebay they'd know to check that - but it's possible someone doesn't get an email. I've sent emails to my sister's workplace that I thought were perfectly innocent and they get returned to me - 'cause the word "money" was in it, or something like that!

Yes, that's true about more than one ebay id. I have more than one too, lots of people do. I use one exclusively for posting on ebay's community boards.

I think most sellers would be happy to combine shipping, it's good customer service, but if you haven't made prior arrangements they are not obligated to. And there are some pretty savvy sellers on ebay. People can be dropshipping (having a supplier ship directly from them to the ulitmate customer - you, the ebay seller is a middle person and never actually handles the product) from different suppliers and it may not be possible to combine shipping as items aren't coming from the same place. So you take some risk if you assume they can or will. Just have to decide if that's an acceptable risk for you.

Also true about sometimes it's better to just take a deduction for a donation. That's what I do with stuff that I don't think I can make enough profit on to make it worth my time.

Have a good evening :)

Like most people here, I have no problem with combining shipping or answering questions about an item.
It just irked me that the person wanted me to go down on the shipping.

Which, BTW, she did pay today.
The guy who wants to pay cash, I told him I have no problem making an exception, told him my moving situation and we are fine now.
The third person I emailed and politely told her I do not sell outside of Ebay. And yes, I did find it ridiculous that she wanted me to reduce the selling price and take a loss on shipping.
Anyone who has had to buy Boy Scout uniforms would know that $3.99 is a bargain.

I really did feel like the two were looking for "something for nothing."

Dear erinch, LMAO! I guarantee the box does NOT weigh 25 lbs! You're just trying to make a little $ off of the s/h. No wonder you don't have any bids! Everyone knows it's a rip off!

It's like she's taking crazy pills!

A large box of clothing can get very heavy and very pricey to ship! I paid $25 a few months ago to ship a box of baby clothes to a friend's sister.

Well yes that is true in some cases. I know I won't sell anything unless it looks pretty darn certain that I will make a decent amount of money on it. I will very rarely sell something unless it will bring in at least $10. For instance, I do not bother with kids clothes. I don't even do them at garage sales anymore as the tax write off you can take for them is way higher than what you could sell them for at a garage sale.

However, take a look at the "What has been your most surprising or highest ebay sale" thread and THAT is why people do this!

Sorry! The board hiccuped and this ended up here instead in the other ebay thread.

I sell alot of HIGHER PRICE items ($15k-50k) on e-bay. And I guess the one I love the most are an item that reserve is say 22k and the bid only got to about 12k and they wanted to know why they didnt win it at that price. Or the ones that call you or e-mail are you really only selling that for 12K?? I just have to laugh and go NO!! sorry that is only where the auction is at right now but my reserve is alot closer to 22K if you would like to bid on it.

I dont know sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes I think its to much of a headache.

Doug
