Ebay... what fools will by that is free on the cruise!

I Remember Barb, and Billinaz Thanks for bidding on my auctuion
hope u win the bag.....:teeth: :teeth:

oh yea Barb i will be selling your cd on ebay......... lol..... Peter

I must say that if I didn't know better I would be tempted to bid on the luggage tags. I mean Disney does put out a nice product with EVERYTHING they do. The whole set does look kind of cute. But I would never try to sell that! But if I didn't know better, I might try to buy.

Hygiene, I'll probably beat you to the punch...I'm thinking about putting it out there as a "Buy It Now" once it is released. If people are willing to pay $30 for six month old Navigators, they should jump at the chance to pay $20 for something that is actually useful and up to date!
Hubby likes to use my Ebay ID to sell our Castaway Club towels, and I've dabbled in the occasonal pin too. Obviously I need to become more of a "creative capitalist"...with all the cruises we do, I could probably retire off the proceeds from shampoo, lotion, and paper luggage tags.

This really steams me how people get taken advantage of.

Is it wrong to want to send an email to the current high bidder and tell them that the seller is "selling" free things:?

Just a thought.

I guess technically the items themselves are free, but you do have to actual expense of the cruise itself! LOL Would it also be necessary to have everyone note exactly what they paid for the item before listing it? What about a gift I received that I didn't like? It was technically free, was it not?.....Ebay is the free world marketplace in its purest form. It is ALL about supply and demand. If there wasn't someone who wanted it, it wouldn't sell! I definitely see your point about the "questionable" ethics, but there are lots of things you pay a premium for cos you didn't buy/get them when you had the opportunity the first time.

Just some food for thought from an ebayer (and no I have never sold Disney cruise tags, but I did sell some extra Disney tags I was sent from the Fairytale package last year - the blue plastic ones with the castle)- Didn't need them and someone wanted them and paid me for them! Everyone's happy!

Ebay has really exploded over the past few years, do you remember the people selling body parts? Or the man selling commercial advertising on his head (he'd shave his head bald and then tatoo your company's logo on it!)? I think that's why the United States is so great, you can sell anything! Capitalism in its purest form. I don't see the harm in selling your Cruise line things, if people are willing to buy them! What is it that P.T. Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute.:earseek:

Chuckling to myself that Zuzu and I said pretty much the same thing - we must be drinking the same coffee - LOL - and he/she is in Canada and I'm in South Carolina!

Why get upset over people buying this stuff?
Heck I have visited garage sales and I am astounded at what people will buy. I'm even more astounded at what they DON'T buy. I know the value of some of the stuff and it and it is a good deal, but they buy the "junque" I'd never think anyone would want.
The seat letters sure is crooked, but heck the luggage tags, Navigators etc are stuff that obviously SOMEONE is willing to pay for and its not illegal, nor is it really immoral. Guess thats why EBay does so well.
Its like that old saying. "One person's junk is another's treasure." :hyper:

How funny. I noticed the tags and the lotions on Ebay a few months ago and just laughed.

Anyone interested in buying official DCL pens or maybe WDW pens? Never been used and can't be bought anywhere? I'll even add in some lotions and shampoo's with the price.

Barb - I need to know when you sell your DCL towels so I can snag one. There is 3 of those towels at my house (one for my mom, one for my dad, and one for me). I would love a back up towel!!!

Maybe the lotion is being bought by someone who has become truly addicted to it (although I'm not terribly impressed with it myself). They need to replenish their supply and can't afford a cruise everytime they run out.

Don't forget the "rare" DCL matches.

BTW, I have some Mickey paper napkins I'd be willing to part with for the right price.;)

Ann,

I have a case of 100 lotion and shampoo our ******* gave me.....ching...ching!! ::yes::
Hum...wonder what my personalized pillowcase would go for?!?!!? :hyper:
LOL ~ think it would pay for the 'specualtion cruise'!!?!?!
With what people are willing to pay for certain items,
we may have to start ebaying next yr to supplement our SS. :worried:

It's not what people sell on Ebay that annoys me so much as when they misrepresent it. I love Ebay myself and have done lots of buying and a little selling to. But the DCL fraud is rampant. For example, I've seen those paper luggage tags represented as "Exclusive concierge tags, available to suite guests only" and Navigators sold as "Not available anywhere else." I also saw a "Rare Sold Out Ornament" of which there were tons still left on my cruise the following week. I suppose that some of it is an innocent mistake, but in looking at the history of some of those sellers, I would bet my next cruise that they know full well they are lying. If you're going to sell something, be honest with people about what they are paying for.

I have no issues at all with people selling free premiums, and frankly if there is a buyer sell the darn luggage tags but don't make people think they are something they are not. In my auctions I always tell people the truth, we have DVC hats up for sale, I said they were a premium we recieved on the cruise, not I paid oodles for them .... Mike's bucket hat, I did say they can't be bought anywhere and that is true, but I also said it was a premium for kids on the last night...
Personally I love ebay, we just were instructed to get ALL of Jay's stuff out of the inlaws basement (about time as we have been maried 13 years) he was a huge nautical and barware collector (grandpa owned a bar) so we have nice stuff to sell..I don't have room for it in our house but via ebay I can let someone else enjoy it.
I have no agnst against someone making money off the tags and lotions, to each their own.... I was just comenting on how some people can get taken.
Now as for the fish.. I still want to know how they got that off the ship........... ;)

OK Ann I'll fess up. I showed the cast member at Castaway Cay the fish I caught doing the bottom fishing excursion and wanted to mail it home so I mailed it from the post office on Castaway Cay. Needless to say it took 5 months to get home, and cost a darn fortune in stamps so I needed to sell it to make some of my money back. ;)

Cheers,

Gumbo you are a cutie pie...;)
BUT I meant the "fish mail" that is up for sale.. you know the one outside of everyone's door..

If CMs are in the habit of handing out the scroll letters from the Walt Disney Theater as "gifts," they probably do it for Fish Mail too.
Personally, for items like that, I think people should be prosecuted for theft if appropriate. There's a chance it was sold in the silent auction, but that's not an item I've ever seen being sold.

I recently saw an ebay auction of the sticker "thing" placed in staterooms announcing Golden Mickeys...it was bidding at $10.00!!! I just can't believe the time and effort some people take to post an auction, monitor it, as well as package and ship the goods to the winning bidder....all that work for literally peanuts....

Hey, how else are people supposed to pay for their cruise?
