We have a bunch of stuff we'd like to sell on Ebay. Which would be better? (by better I mean cheaper)

ugh...try craigslist first... Ebay hates the 'little' people :(

These days they sure do.

agnes!

I've stopped selling on ebay. It's a HUGE pain in the butt, and the fees are crazy. Try craigslist! More and more people are using craigslist as an alternative to ebay.

I don't sell just buy from Ebay and won't be any more since they insisted on Pay Pal. Shame cause it was nice when I was looking for hard to find items. Will have to check out this Craigs list.

It depends on what you're selling. If you've got miscellaneous items and your primary goal is to get rid of the things then I'd stick to an ebay type situation. If you've got one type of item, say mostly musical instruments (this is just an example LOL) then you could look for the websites dedicated to a particular item.

I sell online but I sell at a group website where we have our own *store* within that website. There are no auctions and the merchandise we sell is specific to the group we belong to. We set the price and usually sell at the price quoted so we're not having to deal with time limits, dickering with prices or other auction type restraints.

Good luck! I hope you find the info you're looking for!!

Just FYI - you don't have to use paypal to pay for something you purchased on ebay BUT the seller is not allowed to say they will accept other forms of payment. If you see something you want to bid on then just ask the seller if they will accept a check/money order if you win. :)

I only use Ebay to buy stuff. I love it. Paypal is super easy for me.

I wanted to sell some stuff on there before but didn't know how and didn't feel like investing any time in it so I just gave it all to Goodwill.

If you're just looking to clear out some stuff, I probably wouldn't bother setting up an ebay store. If it's going to be an ongoing thing, then a storefront might be worth it. I haven't had an ebay store in awhile, but I believe the basic store was a $14.95 fee, and then the listing fees/fvf were less.

Plus a store gives you the option to list something for a month at a time, ongoing.

Odd, I tried a couple of times and was told that Ebay won't let them. Maybe it was just an excuse so they wouldn't "look bad" :confused3

They probably just didn't want to deal with anything other than paypal. It really is by far the easiest way to get your money for sellers. Buyers do have a good bit of protection as well when they use it.

When I ran auctions I would say Paypal only in my auctions but if someone asked me to take a money order then I would accept one from the post office because I could cash those at my local post office. We don't have a brick & mortar bank (we use a military bank in TX and we are in MD) so to accept a check or a different type of money order is a royal pain for us and would take so long to clear that the buyer would lose patience and leave substandard feedback. We tried that before and it just wasn't worth it.

OP- it really depends on what you are selling as to where/how to sell it. Big stuff I would stick on Craigslist. Clothing and such I would take to a local consignment sale or shop. Collectibles then I would try ebay auctions but do your research to find out what they are worth before listing them. Ebay is not what it used to be at all. :sad2: An ebay store is pricey for what you get for your money. If you are going the ebay route then I would just do auctions or fixed price 30 day listings. Some categories right now have a nickel listing fee and a free subtitle for fixed price listings.
