Ebay sellers requesting feedback

I'm in a situation now where I will probably end up with negative feedback. I purchased an item a while back as a 'Buy it Now." Of course I paid instantly...even overpaid because I wasn't sure on the shipping fee. The feedback number of the seller was huge.....and probably 99.5 or so. Well, I didn't read the feedback (first time!) but sure wish I had. The negatives have all been pretty recent. I've not received my items despite a numer of emails to the seller. Never got a note with a shipping date nor any response to my requests to get the date the item was shipped. I'll go through eBay to file a complaint this week and hope perhaps this seller will contact me then. If not, then I'll leave a negative and they will conter negative I'm sure...even though I did everything right and nothing wrong. :(

The first negative is always the most difficult.
One negative, from a person with multiple negatives themselves, should not hurt (it would not keep me from buying from, or selling to, someone).

It is not so much the percent, as it is the number of people who have left negatives (not to be confused with the number of negatives).
The Percent can be above 99 (which they usually are) and the seller can still have multiple non-delieveries.
If a seller is doing a huge volume, most transactions will go without a glitch, where there is no need for any action (by the seller or buyer) beyond the minimal payment, shipment, receipt of item, feedback.

If the percent is below 100, I take a quick look.
EVERY time I have had a problem with a seller, I later found clues in the feedback.
In EVERY one of these cases the percent was over 99, and the seller was doing a very high volume.
There are sellers with over 99.5, who are averaging 2 non-delivery complaints a month.
If the company I work for, only delivered 99.5 percent of what others paid it for, it would be in trouble, and possibly end up going out of business.

I wish that eBay showed a number for reported non-deliveries and non-payments (like they do for bids withdrawn).
This could turn out to be far more useful than reading through feedback.

Besides non-delivery one thing that will keep me from buying from a seller, is if their feedback shows multiple items damaged in shipment. What are the chances of this happening multiple times, to the same seller, unless the seller is using poor packaging or shipping damaged items. I know there is some chance, but it is not a chance I want to take.

It has nothing to do with another "like" item. It is regarding a specific transaction that you had with a buyer or seller.
Yes, I understand that..I thought you were saying you could email your buyer once you had a transaction with them. The other (contacting someone for feedback), has been discussed ad nauseum on the ebay boards (and it was more specific on eBay, before they made changes in their help files so maybe that has now been changed)..and many have said they have reported as spam, or been reported themselves, when they have been asked or asked for feedback. Granted, usually it's been multiple asks, but they have said that it was considered spam. I would never ask for it, and when people ask me, I just tell them I use vrane, and it responds to feedback. On the few occasions I have had someone ask more than once, I repeat what I've told them and asked them not to email again asking. I consider that spam, if they ask again, and would report it as such. It's usually someone that woudn't like what I would have to say anyway (slow payer, someone that didn't read the auction correctly, and those are often people with less than 10 feedbacks), so I think they are lucky I don't leave it first!

They must be selling a very large amount of items to maintain a 99.5 and have 2 non delivery negs a month. Have you done the math? I'd be interested in it, but not enough to do the math LOL. I'd be more nervous if that was two breakables a month, since I have had my share of bad addresses (although I've never gotten a neg for non delivery..3 of mine were non payers).

Again, the once cent CD people come to mind. They have a ton of negs, but their business thrives, on the sheer numbers of sales. Their ebay name is jayandmarie

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...rie&items=25&page=2&frompage=-1&iid=-1&de=off

They have 241756 unique positive feedback, 810449 positive feedback ( a lot of repeat business) and 2673 negs with a % of 98.9. I love them and have no problem buying from them and have for years and years, way back when their name was 1 cent CD (or something similiar). So what might not be good for one, is fine for another (%)

"While mine is 99.9, it doesn't take much to get to 99.6%, and I would have no porblem buying from a person with 99.6%. I just assume no one is perfect, and that's still a good amount of satisfied people."

If you have around 300 feedback points, 1 negative will get to 99.6%. When, I accumulate 1000 total feedback points, I will hit 99.9%.....if I every do!

I guess I'm saying for this person to have two negs (just on delivery) a month, they must have a large amount of feedback (1,000's) to still be as high as they are. When you have a lower amount as you have, it drops faster. So I happen to think if this person drops two negs a month (maybe more if just talking delivery problems), they must be doing something right, and doing a lot of selling.

If you used paypal, file the complaint there. They will usually give you the $$ back and go after the seller for their reimbursement. Good luck!

I used to leave feedback as soon as I received payment. I have 2 negatives on my feedback. They are from over 2 years ago. Since I started leaving feedback after it was left for me, no negatives.

I happened to come across 2 very strange buyers/scam artists in one months time. One never paid and left ME negative feedback, the other decided she didn't want what she paid for but also didn't want to send it back for refund. They both left me negatives. :confused3

I have a 99.7% positive with 583 feedbacks.
