my3kids said:I'm in a situation now where I will probably end up with negative feedback. I purchased an item a while back as a 'Buy it Now." Of course I paid instantly...even overpaid because I wasn't sure on the shipping fee. The feedback number of the seller was huge.....and probably 99.5 or so. Well, I didn't read the feedback (first time!) but sure wish I had. The negatives have all been pretty recent. I've not received my items despite a numer of emails to the seller. Never got a note with a shipping date nor any response to my requests to get the date the item was shipped. I'll go through eBay to file a complaint this week and hope perhaps this seller will contact me then. If not, then I'll leave a negative and they will conter negative I'm sure...even though I did everything right and nothing wrong.![]()
The first negative is always the most difficult.
One negative, from a person with multiple negatives themselves, should not hurt (it would not keep me from buying from, or selling to, someone).
It is not so much the percent, as it is the number of people who have left negatives (not to be confused with the number of negatives).
The Percent can be above 99 (which they usually are) and the seller can still have multiple non-delieveries.
If a seller is doing a huge volume, most transactions will go without a glitch, where there is no need for any action (by the seller or buyer) beyond the minimal payment, shipment, receipt of item, feedback.
If the percent is below 100, I take a quick look.
EVERY time I have had a problem with a seller, I later found clues in the feedback.
In EVERY one of these cases the percent was over 99, and the seller was doing a very high volume.
There are sellers with over 99.5, who are averaging 2 non-delivery complaints a month.
If the company I work for, only delivered 99.5 percent of what others paid it for, it would be in trouble, and possibly end up going out of business.
I wish that eBay showed a number for reported non-deliveries and non-payments (like they do for bids withdrawn).
This could turn out to be far more useful than reading through feedback.
Besides non-delivery one thing that will keep me from buying from a seller, is if their feedback shows multiple items damaged in shipment. What are the chances of this happening multiple times, to the same seller, unless the seller is using poor packaging or shipping damaged items. I know there is some chance, but it is not a chance I want to take.
