I just listed a few things on ebay and had a question for those of you that sell. i had a seller ask if i would be willing to ship to the UK. What do i need to look out for. Any ideas, experiences? I guess my main concern is i dont get cheated on the shipping. As far as payment goes, as long as they use paypal they do any currency exchange right? Thanks for any help. please share any ideas or experiences!

I have found that shipping overseas is a total pain. You can use the shipping calculator or the USPS website to get an idea based on the weight and type of package how much it will cost you. Paypal does the rate exchange. You will get paid whatever it sold for in US dollars. When I first started I sold a couple of things to someone in the UK and in France and just having to fill out the forms and haul in to the PO was too much trouble imo. If you decide to sell outside of the US, just be sure of the approximate shipping costs and then add in some for handling and you should be ok. Also tell the buyer that you recommend they purchase shipping insurance (they pay you and you buy it when you ship) and that you aren't responsible for any loss or damage during shipping.

From a money point of view - it is the shipping cost that you need to calculate. If you use Paypal, then the money exchange is the same.

I did a couple outside of the US last month and agree with the other poster, it can be a pain. Unless you are selling something that will fetch some GOOD money I wouldn't bother.

I NEVER ship anywhere but US. It's just a pain to be honest. I've just been contacted by someone who didn't receive their package here in the US I can't imagine dealing with something like that going out of the country. Do what you are comfortable with but if I were you I'd just pass and wait for US buyers.

tell the buyer that you recommend they purchase shipping insurance (they pay you and you buy it when you ship) and that you aren't responsible for any loss or damage during shipping.

The problem is, they can file an "item not received" claim through PayPal and the seller will most likely lose. Buying insurance is for the seller's protection.

OP, I don't ship internationally. I cannot get tracking info on the package, packages get caught in customs and the buyers blame the seller for slow shipping, and taking the packages to the post office is a pita. I prefer to just print out labels at home and drop them in the mailbox on my way to work. I don't need one more errand to run.
