Here's the background. A week before Christmas my youngest son told me he wanted a specific Disney mini cars set to go with a playset he got on our Disney vacation. We live in a small town and they were no longer available anywhere here. I checked on ebay and found one for $4.99. I emailed the seller and asked if I could pay for priority shipping and if I did, would he mail it within 48 hours so I could be sure to have it by Christmas. He agreed to mail it the next morning if I did a buy it now and paid right then. I did what was asked and e-mailed him back to let him know I paid and to let me know if there were any problems. Long story short, I never received the item.

I emailed the seller numerous times after Christmas, asking him when it was shipped, for a tracking number, etc and never received a response. I ended up opening a dispute on ebay, requesting a full refund. The seller finally responded and said they didn't realize I had paid, that they would ship me the item, and refund my shipping. I said no, I wanted a full refund. It went back and forth and I finally got a full refund.

Today I received a request from the seller to cancel the transaction, and honestly I really don't want to agree to it, because I held up my end of the bargain, they didn't. I think they should still have to pay the fees. But then again, I think that I'm being petty, so I was hoping someone here could tell me what I should do.

Should I agree to the cancel transaction request?

obviously, the seller did not mail it to you...and now he/she does not have it or is not willing to send it for said price....

your options are to stick to the sale so you can leave negative feedback and wait for resolution so you can get your money back...

or

cancel the transaction and get your money back easily.

sorry this happened to you. I just don't think you'll get the set no matter what at this point.:confused3

ooooops missed that you already had your money back....Please leave him negative feedback!

Does agreeing to cancel the transaction affect my ebay status in any way? I don't get a ding or anything because of it, do I?

The money has already been refunded. Now it's just about cancelling the transaction on ebay. I'm assuming this is to keep the seller from having to pay the fees associated with the transaction. I'm not sure if it affects my ability to leave feedback? I've never dealt with a cancelled transaction before, either as a seller or a buyer.

If you cancel the transaction on ebay, the selle gets his fees back, and is able to relist the item. You do not get to leave feedback, which you should, because of the sellers error. He gets away scott free.

I'm not an avid eBay user but I would think that by cancelling the sale you would not get to leave negative feedback (if that's what you want to do) and/or the whole mess goes away for the seller and his good % stays there.

I, personally, would not let the transaction get cancelled. You upheld your end - you paid really quickly and even paid for priority shipping. He was the one who blew it - item not shipped/ignoring your emails (bad, bad, bad IMHO) requesting info until you were forced to open a dispute. Do you think you would have gotten the item or a refund had you not opened the dispute? You got your money back and he should have some sort of consequence (negative feedback or history) so that he can learn from his mistakes.

I wouldn't cancel it. If you sent him numerous emails there is no basis for him to say that he didn't know you paid it. He deserves negative feedback and that is what he is trying to get around.

You are NOT being petty!!!! I actually had a seller send me the wrong book type (auction said paperback book and he sent me a board book which would not work for what we wanted the book for) and then after he sent me the refund he put an unpaid item strike against me. I had to fight with ebay to have it removed and finally I won that. YOU DID NOTHING WRONG!!!!!!!!!! Make him eat his fees for failing to follow through. It is kind of hard to not know you got paid for an item since paypal does notify you.

I agree with previous posters. You did everything correct. Do not agree to cancel and I'd leave neutral/negative feedback.

I sell on Ebay and I've had the same situation. I've agreed to put BIN on an auction so someone could quickly buy it and pay. When this has happened I watch that auction frequently so I know when/if it's paid so that I can uphold my end of the deal and ship the item quickly.

Your seller should have upheld his end by watching the item frequently to see when you bought it and paid and then got the item out the door the next day. It's his mistake and he should pay for it.

I agree, I do not think you should agree to cancel and I do think you should leave negative FB. I've also asked a seller to ship something quickly, they've done a BIN, I've bought the item and paid immediately and they've shipped it immediately. Your seller dropped the ball, he should pay the consequences for that.

Did he even give you a reason why he didn't follow through with the sale? Apologize? Anything? It's kind of strange to me. I wouldn't cancel either unless he had a very good reason. Having no contact and no excuse is nutty.

Please don't cancel the transaction. It will only encourage poor sellers such as this one, to continue to be poor sellers. This seller needs to know there are consequences for every bad choice they make. Ignoring you like this, when you have done everything right, is not something that should be swept under the rug. When good ebay users knuckle under to inept, unreliable, ebay users, they make things worse all the way around for everyone else. Stick to your guns!
