Hi everybody,

I haven't sold anything on Ebay for awhile but just started to again this week. One of the things that I listed was a pair of Victoria Secret PJs that were new without tags. They sold and I shipped them. I just got a message from the buyer saying that he received them and they weren't as described. He said they looked like they were worn/washed. Well, they were never worn or washed but I did purchase them 1-2 years ago which is why maybe they look that way. I sold over 200 items on ebay and have a 100% rating and never had any issue whatsoever. I have a no return policy also.

He said he wanted his money back along with shipping.

My question is since I have a no return policy, do I have to refund his money. I was going to offer for him to ship them back to me (of course him paying the shipping) and I will refund his original price minus the shipping it cost me to ship them to him. I don't want to be in the negative just because he decided he doesnt like them as a gift.

If he doesn't accept, what will ebay/paypal do? What would you do in the same situation??

Thanks.

You having a no return policy means nothing if you use paypal. If you accept paypal, they will make you take returns.

If you want to avoid a negative, you will have to make him an offer. Maybe offer a partial refund.

If he doesn't like you offer and opens a significantly not as described case, you just again offer a refund if he ships back. He may still not like it and escalate but usually ebay will require him to pay shipping back to you - he will get the entire amount he paid you back. I've seen a few times when ebay pays for shipping back to you and even just refund the buyer without shipping back, but those are rarer I think.

I believe paypal says you have to accept returns, however buyer pays return shipping.
I've had this happen before and the person didn't want to pay to ship it back so they filed with ebay. In the end I did not have to refund the $, I believe paypal or ebay refunded it to them but never made me refund it. I also had very good feedback and I felt it was important to stand my ground.

If more sellers at least tried to stand their ground buyers wouldnt try this stuff so much. How much feedback do they have? If you are sure your description was accurate I would let them file

Call his "bluff" - which it may or may not be. Offer him either a partial refund and he gets to keep them or a full refund IF he returns the item. In the end, it is a headache and hassle (at least for me - I fret over silly things like this) to argue about item not described - it is such a subjective thing sometimes. I technically have a "no return" policy also, but over the years, I've refunded a handful of items.

I don't cover the cost of the buyer sending the item back to me, but they WILL get their original shipping refunded if they open a case and win it. I guess I usually figure that if they send the item back, I can sell it again and just pretend that transaction never happened. Good luck - I know it is such a pain!

Ebay requires that the buyer return the item to you with delivery confirmation on his end. He can't keep the pjs AND have a refund. It doesn't matter if you have a no return policy. That means nothing these days. When you receive the item back, you refund the full amount including his original shipping (but not the cost of return shipping). Sorry! That's just the way it is. I used to get really mad about it, but now I realize that it's just not worth the stress.
