I'm not really sure where to post this one, but I figured the budget board might be the best spot.

What would you do?

We are going to Disney in 2 days! I bought my DD a VERY expensive - but discounted and used Belle deluxe princess dress for her BBB appt for her birthday. I paid over $70 for the dress and the shipping. I didn't even pay that much for her flower girl dress for our wedding, so this is a splurge. I bought it 3 weeks ago with a promise that it would ship priority mail and be here in about 5 business days. The seller knew when we were leaving and why we bought the dress, and assured us it would be here in time.

After not receiving it when I should have, I contacted the seller, and she said something came up and she shipped it a week late. Well, I still don't have it and I leave in 2 days. I contacted her again, and she said she had to send it parcel post b/c priority would have cost $40 to ship and I paid $10 for shipping. (I think this is a load of bull b/c parcel usually only saves a few $.)Because it's parcel post, there is no tracking number, and it can take over 2 more weeks to get here.

Basically, I spent all this money on something we are never going to use. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it might come on Monday, but I am doubtful. I am also furious!!
What would you do? Should I file a complaint? Do I get my DD another dress? I really didn't want to spend another $80 on a dress in Disney.

wow, thats a tuffie, first of all the ebayer should have never promised a date you would get it, when we sell on ebay, once it leaves our hands, we can't promise anything!!! However, then she told you she would sent it, and something came up, that was wrong of her to do. She should have offered you a refund, plus she should have known to charge you extra shipping, something sounds totally fishy here!!!
But, being that she did send it, I would just bite the bullet, def give her a negative, and you sell it, at least you will make up your money! :O)
Then comes having to possibly get another dress, I know the thrift stores are packed with them here..maybe you can find a nice one there??
:confused3

Did you pay via paypal? If you did, file a complaint. If the seller can't provide a tracking number, you'll get your money back.

Unfortunately, I live out in the middle of nowhere, and the closest thrift store, Target, or any place where I can get another dress is a couple of hours away. We do not even have a Goodwill or Salvation Army or anything here.

We have a Wal-mart, but they are also small, and haven't had any princess dresses in stock. They have the fairies, but it's not what DD wants.

I did pay through Paypal. I am worried that if I get my money back, that I will have to pay to return the dress. I don't want to be out more money whenever the dress gets here. I don't understand all of the excuses and etc. from the seller, since she had over 1,000 positive feedback. I'm not trying to get the dress for free, but I never would have bought it in the 1st place had I known that she wasn't going to ship it.

Sellers DO get a tracking number when shipping Parcel Post (or any USPS). She has been untruthful with you on every level. File a claim against her and get your money back. You will have to buy a dress at DW. They are beautiful there too. Have a good trip! :)

We ship about 300 USPS packages a week and parcel post does have tracking if you process the shipment yourself...I'm not sure that is the case if the physically take it to the Post Office and pay for it there.

What really makes me suspicious about the honesty of this seller is the delay in shipping. That usually is a sign of someone selling something that they physically do not have. There are many people selling items on eBay that they will order from someone else once you place an order through them. So they have to wait for it to be shipped to them before they can ship it to you.

I would file a claim with PayPal stating non receipt. If the seller truely does not have a tracking number, paypal doess not consider it shipped. If you get home and find it on your doorstep I would reccommed not opening it and taking back to the Post Office and say your are refusing delivery. If it does have a tracking number and it is returned. Paypal should side with you since the merchandise is returned.

Let's not forget ...negative feedback for the seller...he/she earned it.

One thing I forgot to mention. $40 for priority mail? Does the dress weight about 18 pounds? Another exageration (nice way of saying lie).

If she printed out the USPS label through Paypal, then there would be an automatic email notifying you of the shipment and tracking number. Plus, the mailman (or woman) would've been able to pick up the package at her door while delivering the mail.
It cost an extra 15 cents for tracking number through paypal, or 55 cents at the post office. They will generally ask every customer if they want tracking or delivery confirmation.

I'm talking to my bf now. He's another high star seller on Ebay, and knows the ins and outs of EVERYTHING to do with the post office. Even the post master knows he knows more than the ones standing behind the counter. His first response was, "did the dress way 20lbs or something??"
The only way to have made the price that much, would've been to ship it in an extra large box. There is a surcharge after you go past 12x12x12in box. So if she ships it flat, like a garment box, then it's possible. But I'd sure as heck deal with a few wrinkles to not pay 40$ in shipping.
Why would you spend near retail cost on a Belle dress to begin with?? They're about 65$ in the park, unless they've shot up high in price within the past 6 months.

That was my first thought. The highest flat rate priority box rate is $14.50. Never mind the fact that it's the seller's responsibility to put the correct shipping costs in their listings.

I really don't think she sent the dress at all for the reasons stated above...the delay in shipping, the absurd claim about the cost to ship priority, saying she couldn't get a tracking number. If by chance it shows up, I would follow the advice above to refuse shipment.

I am sorry you have to deal with this and have a great trip!

I just had the same issue, but I was the seller...the surcharge on the box caused what should have been about $15 to ship cost $57 :scared1: It had nothing to do with the weight, but the "unusual"/large package surcharge. So if she packaged it in flat as others have said it easily could have cost $40+. Now my auction SPECIFICALLY stated Priority Mail so as a seller I feel my end of the deal was to ship HOW I stated what I would ship, no matter the cost to me vs what the buyer paid. I did however email the buyer and state the issue, offer a $5 refund to what she paid if she let me ship UPS Ground (which actually was only predicted to arrive 1 day later than Priority Mail). I also stated though that I would honor the original shipping method since I messed up the calculation. So after all that, my question is what did the auction state, if it didn't clearly state what type of shipping you bought, I am not sure you have recourse (of course assuming the package arrives). Also, not sure what the waiting period is for filing the non-shipment claim, I suspect it might be longer than you have waited so far.

Good luck!

I would IMMEDIATELY file a complaint with Paypal and include all correspondence sent between myself and the seller. Demand a full refund and leave negative feedback. I have never left negative feedback but this person's audacity takes the cake...really. :sad2:

Don't worry about returning the dress--just reject it (unopened) when it arrives and the Post Office will return it at no cost to yourself.

Get your money back and purchase something nice in the parks, it'll be more memorable that way anyhow. :goodvibes

<<Btw, if you pay your Paypal through a credit backed card, you can also file a complaint through your bank within 3 months (usually). I had to do this awhile back when Paypal dithered around with refunding money on an item that never arrived. Good luck!!>>

I would definitely file a non-receipt claim thru Paypal. I ship parcel post all the time, if you take it to the post office, you don't automatically get a tracking number. Considering you bought it 3 weeks ago and now she's giving you the run around about it taking 2 weeks, I'd say the seller definitely didn't have the dress when she sold it to you. I've shipped out 100's of items parcel post and I've never had it take that long, even though the post office does state it could.

Not only that, she could have contacted you when she discovered the discrepancy in the shipping charges and she didn't.

CinderelliT sorry you had this problem. Just this month, I had a problem with an item I ordered from Etsy for a trip to Disney. At this point, I would suggest filing with paypal and giving her negative feedback.

Still hope you get it tomorrow though. In the end, you'll still have a great time at Disney. :goodvibes

OK..what a crock! She should have gotten it right out to you and it shouldn't cost all that much to ship . BTW, I do ship Parcel Post and I DO have tracking. I ship through Paypal and have tracking on everything I ship. I would buy her a similar, but not Disney branded dress (I know..not as nice, but really, she won't know and she will still love it. My DGD wore her cheapy Walmart Snow White dress multiple times, and there were alot of saftey pins involved, but it was still great fun).
If the dress doesn't arrive, file a complaint and cancel the transaction. if it arrives late, Ebay will let you send the dress back and refund your original shipping.
Good luck.

I have to put in my 2 cents too....via a complaint w/ paypal right now! It seemd exremely odd, as suppose to ship priorty- then delayed a week and then sent parcel post at $40?!?!?! Like it has already been mentioned she for $10 in her ad for shipping, not your problem and should be sent the way it was suppose to be!
Good luck, I would get a lovely dress in WDW and get your money back from Paypal! Sorry you have to deal with this before your trip.
Please let us know how you make out!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. It makes me feel better to know that I'm not crazy for thinking that the seller is being crooked.

I think I am going to wait for the mail to come tomorrow and see if anything magically happens. If not, I will file all the complaints and leave negative feedback.

I buy a lot of stuff through ebay - b/c I'm cheap and we live in the boonies, and I have never had a problem like this.

And to answer the question about the price of the dress - this is one of those limited edition deluxe additions that cost about $150. I got it for less than 1/2. But it does make me wonder if she didn't have it to begin with - it wasn't a stock photo :confused3

Disney packs those things all folded up in a little tiny envelope, so I don't understand why she didn't do the same. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

Your seller has repeatedly lied to you. File a claim with PayPal today for non-receipt. Don't waste anymore time dealing directly with her.

Did you pay via paypal? If you did, file a complaint. If the seller can't provide a tracking number, you'll get your money back.

Which she will provide! Paypal will say you got the dress, (they don't care WHEN) and you won't get your money.

Paypal's main concern is making sure Paypal got paid, not that you got what you paid for (which is why I am no longer on Ebay)

$40 is a crock. I just sent a 14lb package to my niece for her birthday - it was about 15x15x12, I think. It went via FedEx Ground for $13, I think, from Illinois to Virginia. USPS was going to be about $5 more.

$10 should have been Priority mail with confirmation! A risk the seller took but you will get your $ back since she cannot provide a tracking number. 3 weeks is way to long to wait for an item and no way a dress would be $40 unless she is out of the country and even then that's high. I've been selling for years on Ebay and that's ridiculous.
