In order to become "verified", Paypal asks for my checking account #. Does this mean that anytime I want to make a payment via Paypal it will come directly from my checking account??? How does verification work? Does it really mean anything to potential buyers?

They deposit a couple small amounts in your account. Then, to verify, you let them know what those amounts were. Then, you can move money directly from your bank account.

After that, when you pay for anything via PayPal, the default will be for it to come out of your bank account. You can always change that to your credit card.

Hope that helps!

The only way I can think that it means anything is that some sellers require you to be verified in order to conduct a PayPal transaction with them.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I'm comfortable putting my bank account # out on the internet. (I know it's not released by Paypal, but still doesn't sit right with me.)

mom2boys, I share your concerns about Internet privacy. However, your checking account # is on every check that you write :) :) :) . I went ahead and became a verified member with PayPal.
