eBay Dreams Contest items and Treasure Detector Magic

and why make the promotion for people 18 or older when VMK is geared towards children?

That is eBay's rules since it's a place where you buy, sell, and auction things off, but it makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to me. And if the contest is starting in like 2 days why wouldn't VMK tell us about it? Although I am sure there will be updated information tomorrow on VMK.com since the Football stuff will be released :)

Ok i figured something out.

Each time you find a hidden mickey( 1 per day, a different one each day) You will Automatically recieve a code but you will also get a entry into the Vacation package contest. If you read this text:
Quote:
Every day you find Hidden Mickey, eBay will send a special bonus code to My Messages in My eBay, allowing you to claim a virtual item to use in Disney's free online game
It says nothing about entering a contest. On the FAQ page it talks about an additional fact to the Hidden Mickey and talks about the contest going on.

There is no contest to get a VMK code.

The whole thing strikes me as odd. I don't like that I can't find any mention of this sweepstakes anywhere on my ebay site.

It just seems off and I already wrote to ebay about it. I hope I am wrong but I am super cautious with ebay because there is a lot of well designed web sites and emails trying to get your ebay information.

PLEASE be careful.
go to ebay and click on community tab at the top. There is an announcement about the contest there. It is legit.

They have to do that - let the parents get the codes.

Check out:

http://www.winit.ebay.com/

And scroll down and click on the prizes tab to see the virtual prizes including the contest to win it:

Hidden Mickey Bonus Prizes
Submit Hidden Mickey selections November 24 - December 3 for Virtual Magic Kingdom prizes!

Every day you find Hidden Mickey, eBay will send a special bonus code to My Messages in My eBay, allowing you to claim a virtual item to use in Disney's free online game, Virtual Magic Kingdom. Collect all seven prizes and be the envy of the Kingdom!
Dreams Captain Hook Chair
Dreams Castle Turret Chair
Dreams Pirates Turret Chair
Dreams Castle Pin
Dreams Poster
Dreams T-Shirt
Treasure Detector Magic

* Now can be proven as 100% Legit. Go to ebay.com and click on the Community tab up at the top. There is an announcement up there.

EDIT:
It looks like each day will be a different prize (do the math) and you need to login to Ebay. Search around for the hidden mickey (maybe a set of mickey ears) click on it and you will be sent a message via your Ebay account with a code for a select item.

Credit goes to a member of another website************

EDIT: Here is some more info i felt should be added here from Schmoofy

You do NOT need to purchase anything on eBay to get the VMK prizes. The prizes are a gimmick for the people buying the Disney collectables through eBay during November 24th through December 3rd. What you need to do is find the hidden mickey each day, which shouldn't be that hard considering it's a gimmick for people buying items. I've sourced the page, and found that a soon-to-be working link over the text "Hidden Mickey" leads to here. My best guess is that is where we will find the hidden mickey daily. Once again, you do NOT need to purchase anything to get these VMK extras.

DO NOT:

Can we create mule accounts on eBay?

No!! Very bad idea, it also asks you for a credit card number to keep your identity. So Do not mule on this one!

You can also find the link on Ebay's home page under the special items. I went to ebay directly rather than using a link to verify the authenticity and clicked on a banner about staying in Cinderella's castle. That took me to the contest page. The Year of A Million Dreams is the current huge celebration at the parks so I imagine that Disney teamed up with Ebay for part of the promotion; no different then when they team up with other sponsors. As to adding a little extra for the VMK codes, that's a nice addition and, since you don't need to purchase to find the "hidden Mickey", I don't think it is any different than other online games.

For our under-18 year old members, the reason for this is legal. Most contests require the participant to be 18. It is free to join Ebay so, if your parent is not already a member, perhaps you can ask them to join.

I'm wondering how difficult the Mickey's will be to find. If there is only one a day, it could be quite an "Easter egg" hunt. There are hundreds of categories on Ebay so it may take some time to find a Mickey every day.

I feel so much better now that it is legitimate but why have prizes for a game that is geared towards kids? I get the whole Disney Sweepstakes but the thing with the Hidden Mickeys and the VMK codes?

You have to be 18 and have a credit card to register with ebay. It seems to me if they wanted a promotion there are otehr web sites to partner with that would be more kid friendly.

This strikes me as odd. VMK doesnt want the selling or buying of Virtual items through eBay or other sites, but they have a promotional thing happening with eBay!?

Well...

People who go to ebay tend to be people who spend money. People who spend money buy things. People who buy things will buy Disney things. Disney partners with ebay to capture post Thanksgiving holiday shopping dollars.

Kids see cool prizes for vmk available through ebay. Kids beg their parents to go to ebay to register and enter. Hey - look at that! While there - parents spend money.

Finally - Disney is understanding how to utilize VMK to get the dollars from the smaller purchases, not just the giant mega-trips.

Remember folks, it's a marketing tool. (Sure is an addiction - i mean game - to us, but it is a marketing tool for Disney.)

I'm not going to believe it until I see something on the Home page.

From the FAQ page of the contest:

Go to www.winit.ebay.com and follow the link to the "Hidden Mickey" Web page.
Find four Mickey Mouse shapes hidden in the image displayed and choose their location from the drop-down menus provided. Choose the Disney Parks location pictured from the fifth drop-down menu provided.
Submit your selections before 11:59:59 p.m. PT, along with your eBay User ID.
You can change your Hidden Mickey selections at any time during the day, but the last selections you submit, as received by 11:59:59 p.m. PT on the date specified on the Daily Drawing Entry Chart below, will be your final submission for a Daily Drawing. Each unique final selection you submit that exactly matches the answer chosen by eBay as correct will count as one (1) entry. Limit five (5) entries per eBay User ID per day via this method.

I found it when I pulled up ebay directly--it took some looking (I found it under announcements), but it is on their site. I was skeptical too!

No, it sounds like once the contest starts, there will be a link that you can click to go to a page that has all the Hidden Mickeys.

Is that confusing or is it just me lol. We can send in a total of 5 entries but the 5th must be final?

Ok I read this as... go to the www.winit.ebay.com and on Nov 24 there will a link there that takes you to the hidden mickey picture, and then it is like a find a seek thing... There will be drop down windows that list posible hidden mickey choices... either one drop down that has a series of places EX Castle wall, Tree, Bench, Flowers.... or Castle wall Bush, Balloon, Flowers etc... OR FOUR seperate boxes with all the choices...

ANd lastly, you can guess up to 5 times... as long as they are all different...

Clear as mud??
