Ebay - Did I do this right?

I had an auction last week for a lot of 2 identical items. The winner e-mailed me and asked if I had any more and, if so, if she could buy them also at the per item price she won the auction for. I had 2 more and agreed to the deal (plus added shipping costs). I wanted to keep the whole deal within the ebay system so on the invoice, I added the extra cost as an extra seller charge. She then was able to pay the full amount via Paypal.

Was that the best way to go about that?

Actually I see some draw backs, for future sales you may consider another option.
Ebay FROWNS on "sellers" that Charge these LARGE ship/seller fees as it is usually a seller looking to keep his list price low and then "make up for it" in the shipping, which is not permitted AND dishonest in my opinion. Seller gets charged lower fee by ebay for the "low" listing and MANY do this to make extra off the public. So, thats how YOU'D look (wrongly of course)
By saying that you "charged extra" COULD be later used by that buyer to say they were hit with UNKNOWN fees but did not agree to it (like they never got the extra's you actually sold them.) Especially if a charge card was used, the charge companies return the money faster than you can blink and you'd be out of luck or atleast having to go thru the hassle of trying to explain what REALLY happened.
Or if there is a problem with the transaction, item does not show up, or they claim it showed up damaged, what is the REAL value, just so many issues can pop up.
It was kind of you to agree to the price, WHO KNOWS, some people ESPECIALLY if they want something pay crazy prices, so you could have also cut yourself out of some "extra" money.
You could have offered to set it up as a BUY NOW if they were interested they'd just buy and pay it and you could have Combined Ship if you were so inclined. Or you could have let them know that another listing would be up (whatever time frame and likely they'd come right back).
Unfortunately I have found (over 300+ auctions) that MANY more people than I ever anticipated were really NOT very honest, and thats sad for everyone on ebay. Ebay can be a fun profitable place, but you really need to be on top of everything too.
Good Luck, hope this helped! (personally I use Craigslist way more now)

I could contest this problem because I have all of the e-mails that went back and forth for the deal. I think that would prove that she knew exactly what she was paying for.

I thought about the possibility of getting more if I auctioned the other items, but I didn't really care. On this auction, she was the one and only bidder so it isn't like there was a line of potential buyers waiting for these items.

I certainly didn't want to do anything dishonest or do anything that could be accused of fee avoidance. Lesson learned. If the situation ever arises again, I'll do the Buy It Now deal.

When this happens to me, I either just add the cost of the item into the shipping cost on the invoice; or if they haven't actually bid/bought the item yet, I can send an invoice to them through PayPal.

You didn't do anything wrong.
There's no case for fee avoidance.
You(seller) may not solicit 'off ebay' sales to an ebay member but anyone can ask a seller if they have any additional items that are not listed and the seller has no obligation to list those items on ebay and it is completely within their rights to complete an off-site transaction.

Really??? Ummmmm, how do you propose to argue that you didn't agree to the extra charges but you paid them anyway?

I would have created another listing with a BIN price for the buyer to purchase from.

I think that was the best way. I have done this several times without any problems.

I have created a BIN (as Green Tea suggested) and emailed the buyer the item # but someone else bought the item before the original buyer had a chance to purchase the item. That was very frustrating.

That's what I thought. There isn't any way to set up a private auction, is there? If others can buy the item, the original buyer might get beat out. I wouldn't want that to happen after I offered to sell them the item.

Actually you can set up a private auction. I've only been involved with one as a buyer, so I'm not much help as far as how to go about it from the sellers end. It can be done though.
