Hi Karl, we are heading out your direction in June, going to visit my cousin in thouasnd oaks, going to lasvegas and san fran, we are also going to Laguna Seca for thr moto gp! cant wait, there is so much stuff to do and it is tempting to try and squeeze too much in and not enjoy the trip!
If you had to give me 3 must dos for the area what would they be??

3 must do's
#1 drive up pacific coast hwy on the way to 1K oaks, not the 405!!!!
#2 drive up pacific coast hwy from San Luis Obisbo to Laguna Seca.(Big Sur)
#3 wine country in Santa Barbara(movie sideways), and Paso Robles!
also when your in Monterey go Carmel by the sea
3 is if you are a wine lover. paso if your a beer lover(Firestone brewery)

i have not been to Seca since they HAD the GP in the early 90's.

we have cavalier king charles spaniels!!!

Hi everyone!

We just booked this cruise. It will be me (Joann), DH, DD8, DD6, &DD3. We will be moving to a new job in Kampala, Uganda next summer, so I hope my new boss won't veto the vacation plans. But the girls' school has a two-week spring break, so I can add this two-week cruise and make decent use of our one-round-trip to and from the U.S.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

I am so excited about this trip bit slightly concerned re the 6 days at sea but it sounds like it will be relaxing.

They are such nice happy little dogs, they really love there owners, they are a bit popular here, but of course the heart thing puts people off( do you have the same probs in usa?)

Can I ask you a q re highway 1, we have every intention of doing it, but I read on another thread that it is best to go north to south for the views, is this important or does it really not matter.
Dont laugh but I booked tickets for Barry Manilow at the hilton last night!!! I am so excited!

We just got back from our short little Disney 3 day cruise. It was alot of fun. I thought it would be nice to see the Wonder and get away for a couple of days. Our weather was perfect. Didn't see that first rain cloud. DW and granddaughter and myself had a great time on Castaway Cay. DW and I rode bicycles for the first time in ?? years. I did better then DW though. I only crashed 3 times, she crashed about 45, know I mean twice. (She's looking over my shoulder had to shorten it up some!!!!!)

Like everyone here we too are really looking forward to this cruise. We only wish our granddaughter could join us. But it just don't work out with school. She couldn't miss 2 weeks of school. And, DW and I are thinking of staying over a couple of days to do a little site seeing. Maybe even flying over to London for a couple and then flying home from there. Still gots time to decide. Anyone else planning on doing the same?

Well gots to go and do my yard work. That is one of the great benefits of living here in Florida, I get to do yard week each and every week!!!!!! Hope ya'll have a great week-end.

DW and I are thinking of staying over a couple of days to do a little site seeing. Maybe even flying over to London for a couple and then flying home from there. Still gots time to decide. Anyone else planning on doing the same?

Here's what I would love to do - get off the boat in Barcelona, take a train to Paris for a couple of days, then head to London for a flight home. But two obstacles stand in the way:
It will be difficult for my wife to just take two weeks off work; three weeks would be almost impossible.
The price for 'buy your own' airfare is prohibitive, and Disney will be flying us from Barcelona.

I wish time wasn't an issue - it would be a lot cheaper to fly Seattle to Orlando then New York to Seattle. The savings on airfare would cover close to 3/4 of he cost for passage from Southampton to New York on the QM2. Wouldn't that be a dream - two weeks enjoying the classic beauty of the Disney Magic, a train trip across western Europe and the English Channel, then a week enjoying the classic elegance of the Queen Mary 2.

Maybe if I win the lottery...
Of course, since I understand basic math, I would never play the lottery...

Like you I wish my niece could come but 2 weeks plus is a long time, I feel so bad and I almost think it will spoil the cruise a tiny bit, she always comes on hols with us!! but not sure if we will get the chance to do this again for a while,shes young,were old so we are just going for it!

about n-s or s-n it doesn't matter the driver needs to stop so they can see the views also!!!!!. please stop at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park just south of big sur!!!! stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

robin has had cavaliers since '84 and we have ours checked for heart murmurers regularly! her 3 yr old ruby just won a major at a dog show in the los angeles area..

but remeber to try to do the drive from lax to 1k oaks if you get in anytime during day light..

I was just reading that DCL may eliminate there fuel surcharges should the price of oil stay below $70 a barrel for 30 consecutive days.
Wouldn't that be sweet for us...... That's about $300
Has anyone else heard anything of this?

We just got off the Wonder 1 week ago, took an additional day off of work, but on returning to work it felt like we had never even went on our cruise. Work just gets in the way of DISNEY FUN!!!
Like your niece Orlandothebeagle, our granddaughter comes with us on all of our vacations. She has not missed a single one. We also feel bad about her not being able to cruise with us on this trip. But like you said we too are getting older and we may never get a chance to do something like this again, so we are going for it. Hey we have always wanted to see Scotland, something to think about there!!!
Well DW has me excerising on a piece of torture equipment. It is suppose to be getting me in shape, helping me lose a few unwanted pounds, and good for my ol' ticker. At least that's what she tells me..................................... sure it is..........................it's pure torture, that's what it is pure torture. One thing though, it feels darn good when I get off that stupid thing!!!! I hear DW bellowing ..............I mean her sweet voice calling to me to get off the stupid computer a start excerising. Coming Sweetie!!!!!

I've been away from the boards for a couple of days, but everything is doing well with us. I'm doing a lot better than anticipated with the gestational diabetes diet, and meeting with the diabetic counselling program twice this week in addition to my OB. Closer and closer to meeting this new baby, and I can't wait! He's heavy and very active!

just had to stick my .02 cents in on the HWY 1 travels. We really enjoyed stopping in at Hearst Castle this last summer. We have driven by many times, I'm so glad we made the effort. The prices to visit seemed really high to me but it was well worth the money for the visit.

We live in San Jose, but had a beach house in Half Moon Bay (30 miles and 30 minutes south of SF) from 2001-2003, it is a wonderful little town to visit also

We really enjoyed stopping in at Hearst Castle this last summer. We have driven by many times, I'm so glad we made the effort. The prices to visit seemed really high to me but it was well worth the money for the visit.

We enjoyed visiting Hearst Castle. Do they still have the table settings with the ancient bottles of ketchup?
