CraftyMouse...the site looks GREAT !! It will be so much fun looking at this over the months ! Having so many sea days, it will be especially nice to have friends all over the ship !

I'll be happy to answer Barcelona questions to those going there for the 1st time. We spent several days there prior to our last DCL Med cruise. It's a great city. So much to see and do ! :cheer2:

Is anyone interested in doing any scrapbooking at sea ?

We also loved Barcelona. We travelled there summer of 2006. We just had a long weekend there, but it was wonderful. I am wondering how it will work for us to have an overnight in port and check out at 8am. Can we wander the town as late as we like and then just show up and check out in the morning?

yes most likely, but I'm dragging Wilson along since he is the only one of us that speaks Spanish ;) Can't ya see him in that kid on top of the shoulders with the overcoat costume, pencilled in moustache getting us into the clubs :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: poor Wilson what he will have to endure traveling with his mama.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Okay, so I had some free time. What do you think?
http://www.freewebs.com/spanishinquisition/

We can use it to keep track of planning (Secret Mickeys, group activities, meets, etc.) and for information on each port. They had one for the Eastbound Panama Canal cruise and it was a great way to keep track of all the information without having to wade through the Cruise Meet thread.

Disclaimer...I had some free time and was just playing around. If somebody else is already doing this I apologize.
Love it! Thanks. I hope we do fish extenders....my kids love finding surprises every day..

Did you do a post-cruise stay? I booked the Hotel AD Diplomatic and was wondering how it is..

I am thinking that if we do a post cruise, then maybe the adults might sneak out for some light night clubbing! DH is not a club lover, but my recollection of my college days in Spain is that most of the night life starts around 10pm! We have stayed overnight in ports before - we could come and go anytime we wanted. Not sure if Disney does it differently.

I found some clothing for Wilson for our Edwardian night:

I'm up for fish exteenders!

Sukie has been talking about going to Barcelona for years. We have not extended our stay yet, I'm pretty sure we will. My major concern is time off from work.

Although who knows what will be going on a year and a half from now.

My boys missed the first 2 weeks of school for the EB Panama. We registered them late when we got back. 2 weeks later the middle school bumped my 6th grader to Honors Math, Science and English. Report cards came out this week and they are both on A & B Honor Roll. I chose this cruise because it is at the end of the year after all their testing for promotion is completed. They will be in 7th and 5th Grade and I understand that taking kids out of school is a very personal decision, but you know more than anyone what your kids can handle. I took some flack, but I know what I am providing to my family and I can take it:wizard:

We are going to take Spanish lessons over the next year as a family, so I am excited!:wizard:
Thanks for sharing. If the principal says its OK we will be on this cruise. We were on the the EB Panama too this last Aug.

For anyone who might have not seen the Monty Python sketch, "Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition" here you go:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tym0MObFpTI

Thanks for the link. I love that sketch.

Okay...so today I was telling DD16 about the website and the "Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition" thing. She looked at me and said, as only a 16 year old can...:sad2: ..."Mom...it should be called "Nobody Expects the Spanish Reposition!"

So...what does everybody think? Personally, I think it's brilliant...but she' my daughter.

It's sort of like a Secret Santa thing. DISers often do them on cruises. Participation is completely voluntary. If you decide you want to participate you will get the name of a fellow cruiser. You then, without them knowing, surprise them with little things throughout your cruise. Near the end of the cruise everyone reveals themselves to their "Secret Mickey". It's lots of fun.

You can add us to the list
Bill
Crystal
Cassidi age 14
Austin age 13
stateroom 5005 late dining

Hello all!

We are also booked on this cruise as of today--woo hoo! :woohoo:

I agree that the prices were pretty godawful for the majority of the european cruises but I found the transatlantics to be not as bad. We took a 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise on DCL in May and paid about the same as we are for a two-weeker!

Glad to see that there will be other kids that are about the age of my sons. They will be 6 and almost 4 by our sail date. I can't wait to tell them about the cruise (it won't be anytime soon, they can't think that far ahead).

I will end up having to pull my oldest out of kindergarten for 2 weeks but the boy is already reading :teacher: so I think he'll be a'ight. Just hope his teacher doesn't think I'm too horrible. :guilty:

Anyone else out there worried about pulling kids out of school?

Can't wait to meet everybody!

Josie:cloud9:
I am worried about pulling my kids out of school too.Only cause mine are older 7th and 8th grade. Kindergarten should be just fine.

We homeschool so traveling during the schoolyear has never been an issue for us. Now that DD16 is in college, however, we find ourselves tied to the school calendar. (Gosh...it stinks!) Unfortunately that means she won't be able to join us on the TA, but she understands. She said we should still go and have a great time and tell her all about it. I see a lot of souvenirs coming her way!

Hello disers! My DH and I are thinking about maybe doing one of the TAs in 2010. I will be on the Wonder this Sunday so it would be a good time to book. I like the ports of call on the Sept TA but, this one would work better for the kids in school because of 1 week of vacation.

What made you pick this TA over the other? What would the weather be like? Thanks!

We picked the Eastbound for a couple of reasons. First, our DD will be heading to a 4-year college at the beginning of September and, although I don't anticipate any issues, I don't want to be so far away so soon after she leaves. The other reason we chose the April repo is because we like the ports better. The WB doesn't stop at Cadiz and, instead, visits St. Maarten and Tortola. We didn't like St. Maarten and would much rather visit a European port than a Caribbean one.

The weather should be on the cool side (for a cruise anyway). Daytime temps in Madeira, Cadiz, Gibraltar and Barcelona average in the high 60s/low 70s at that time of year. The sea days leading up to Europe are really up in the air. The seas could be calm, or they could be rough. The temps could be nice, or they could be cold. On the last TA they had some rain and overcast skies on those days, plus some fairly choppy seas, so you need to be prepared for that.

Good luck making your decision!

No matter how late you wander... I'm sure they're still gonna grab your luggage at 10 pm... :lmao:

Ian - I sent you an PM about me extending my stay...what a mess. I talked to Quentin and he thinks it might be just as well not to do air through DCL since we might want to hop to another country before going home. The kids would love Rome or Paris. I checked the train ride for 2 adults, 4 kids from Barcelona to Paris - $744! Not bad. You leave at 9pm, arrive at 9am. That would be great. I figure if we take the energy (and fun but you know with kids it is always energy) to get to Europe, we might want to hit one more country before heading home. We are now contemplating making it a 3-week vacation...just need to figure out school.

So Lisa... are you going to be the Royal Fish Monger???

I take that back.... :lmao: :lmao:
Hmmm...it really wasn't hard, but I got a little stressed when I thought I wasn't going to be able to make it. I think I'll take a back seat for awhile!
