is it considered bad form to bring an electric frying pan to a studio ... i have a big one that plugs into the wall ... can make a ton of things from pancakes to chicken cutlets in it ... but dont know if its allowed.

trying to be frugal on this unexpected trip before our big december trip

I don't think it would be a problem. I have heard of some folks bringing a crock pot. Paper plates and plastic utensils are provided in a studio but you can request "real" plates if you do "real" cooking.

We normally eat breakfast in the room.

When we stay for two weeks we take an electric griddle.

When we stay for one week we leave the griddle at home.

We have one of the smaller suitcases with wheels that is packed 24/7 for the kitchen.

We purchased two cheap microwave safe dinner plates. We have two sets of silverware, coffee, coffee filters, baggies, wine opener, etc.

The first trip we made home we weren't sure what would be included so we took a lot of things that they provided (coffee cups, paper towels, etc).

Now the suitcase is much lighter!!

I've brought my George Foreman grill before and now I feel 'lost' w/out it. I even bring it when we stay in a one bedroom.

My mom brings a single electric burner, and a little saute pan. She wouldn't think of going without it....bad form or not!!!

I don't think it would be considered wrong to bring a small grill or griddle of some sort to a DVC studio. There is counter space near the microwave/fridge/cabinet area, so I think it should be fine. I wouldn't bring it to a regular room, though.

You could do it, but you wouldn't have any cooking utensils etc. Sounds to me like you need to reserve a 1 bedroom instead of a studio.

If you're going to pack the electric frying pan, I guess you could pack a few cooking utensils and you would be fine. :sunny:

Sure you could, but hauling half the kitchen with me on vacation isn't my idea of vacation. With the 1 bedroom, you have it all right there.

A spatula and a ladel doesn't snd like much extra to pack. :confused3 I say go for it and don't forget to request a toaster. Have a blast!!

I'm glad to know others bring a griddle or something to cook in a studio!! I totally understand the need. I will be doing the same later this month. While a 1BR would be great, We need to stretch our points and money to be able to make the trip! We also have food allergies so it helps if we eat in the room part of the time. WDW is great for accomodating allergies but it gets pricey eating out all the time. Fixing something quick in the room can still be a part of a great vacation!
Take your electric skillet and have fun!!

I am appreciate a penny saved so I 'vote' :flower: go with the fry pan! Crockpot maven that I am I will be posting one to myself for our Nov/Dec trip. We will have a one bedrm, eat most breakfasts there, lunch sit down @ WDW but some dinners in the room.
As long as the appliances are in good condition--no frayed cords, etc--why not?We all save $$$ & Points in our own way for our own indulgences-- ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo --Have a great trip & Bon Appetit!

this is a "bonus" trip for us ... though we own at SSR we budgeted for 2 bd for 8 nights at BWV (prf view) for our 12/05 trip with extended family

knew it was wishful thinking ... and disapponted at first
but now LOVING the less points at SSR ... with our "extra" points we can sneak a trip to OKW studio in August (thats in addition to our 8/06 trip)
no points left for a 1 bd :sad2:

3 trips in 12 months = PAP !! :Pinkbounc

we're driving this time so "packing the kitchen" is no big deal
as i rather have a budget trip to wdw than no trip

we figure breakfast and dinner in ... and lunch out

any other studio cooking ideas/advice are very welcome

we figure lots of sandwiches and salads ... coz it'll be hot
and any hurricane that heads our way ... we'll just be part of our ADVENTURE
:cheer2:

I can't imagine anything that you COUILDN:T cook with the microwave provided and your own skillet....bon appetit!!!

You could pack the utensils inside the electric frying pan which will take up less space. This would not even be close to packing half of our kitchen. :confused3
Not everyone needs or wants a 1 br. B.C. (Before Children) we often stayed in a studio. With just the 2 of us a 1 br would have been a waste and unnecessary. Once the kids came it was different.

Saving points for an extra trip is always worth it! I've brought my Foreman grill before to a studio, perfect for burgers or chicken breast...add a bag of salad and it's dinner! We always eat breakfast in the room (except for 1 trip to Kona for Tonga Toast!). I tried bringing a set of plates from home (light plastic type) but washing the dishes got to be a hassle so now I just use throw away plates, bowls, etc and everyone's happy! For a quick trip we always use a studio, even when the kids come. Every summer we do a 3-4 week trip and we typically start in a studio then too, then as the trip goes on we switch to a 1 bdr as we start spending more time at the resort relaxing.

We are in a studio now, and I have my Mickey Waffle Maker and electric skillet here with me. By staying in studios, we are able to stay 24 DvC nights this trip and that includes 4 weekend nights.

I just don't make stinky stuff, because I dont like to smell up the room.

My boys don't like eating in restaurants much, because they like their food prepared simply and not touching! We have a car, so while at Sam's, I picked up the electric skillet.

Yesterday we had the worst breakfast ever at Universal (Spider-Man c-breakfast) and I commented to DH that I could have done better back in the studio with my Mickey Waffler and Skillet! LOL $65 for the 4 of us, so the skillet paid for itself with one meal and we enjoyed the food much better too!

We usually only book studios for short stays (one or two nights like before and after the Member Cruise) and go with one bedrooms for longer stays. Since we also fly most of the time it would be a bit inconvenient as well. Having said that DVC is your home away from home and is set up with a microwave and mini fridge so why not. It isn't like a regular hotel room

Bring it and enjoy a few meals in the room - that is the beauty of DVC!

Last trip (March) we drove down and brought our hot pot and sandwich maker. The hot pot for soups and the sandwich maker for grilled cheese sandwiches (and the like) and eggs. We had them in a box with other essentials for cooking and cleaning which we took it into the room when it was needed.

This saved us a lot of money - both on the road and at Disneyworld ; wothout much inconvenience

We generally had breakfasts and most suppers in the room.

Dh and I often often said that we would like it if Disney had storage lockers available for DVC. We could store all our stuff that we only use at our "home away from home".
