eating in a studio?

A little sidebar...I bought the Mickey soft sided rolling cooler a while back (when it was on clearance at the disney store) I've packed my foreman grill along w/ other kitchen "junk) and my sound machine (i never travel w/out it ) I've checked it in at the airport and had NO problems at all at destination. Its very convenient w/ those wheels and nothing has been damaged. About a week b4 we leave I put it in the kitchen and throw stuff into it as I need it. It makes my life alot easier and cheaper. I'm like most of you, for some "last minute" trips, the 3 of us use a studio too. It got us an extra week last year (3 trips total for the year) .

is it considered bad form to bring an electric frying pan to a studio ... i have a big one that plugs into the wall ... can make a ton of things from pancakes to chicken cutlets in it ... but dont know if its allowed.

trying to be frugal on this unexpected trip before our big december trip

When I first approached my guide last year about purchasing, I had made a comment about bringing a hot plate. No alarms or comments that it would be an issue.

There isn't an exhaust fan in the studio to suck away the odors. So frying odors would stay in the room. Also the counter top area is rather small.

Cooking other than micro-wave in a studio should not happen. They are not designed for cooking. You can however eat anything in the room.

Pa@OKW, you are such a skeptic, but in this case, I totally agree with you. If you want to cook with fry pans etc, you really need to be getting a 1 bedroom or larger with the full kitchen.

Me, too. Odors tend to linger and they often go places they aren't wanted!

I wouldn't want to smell fried food all night long and I don't think the neighbors would either.

Best wishes -

Dh and I often often said that we would like it if Disney had storage lockers available for DVC. We could store all our stuff that we only use at our "home away from home".

That being said, I wonder how much a small storage unit in orlando would cost on a yearly basis?

I wouldn't bring it to a regular room, though.

What would be the point, you'd already have a nice range and frying pan as well as other cookware. :confused3

There isn't an exhausting fan in any DVC kitchen. The range fans have a screen to trap grease particles, but they do very little for odors/smoke. All cooking odors are blown right back to your hair, and then into the room.

Sometimes making a toasted cheese sandwich and soup is just the right thing after spending a long day in the parks. A hot plate or electric skillet works great. If your like me and have a "degree" in early childhood meal preparation, you already know that chicken nuggets/fish sticks can also be heated in the toaster.

I have said it before and I will say it again bring it and cook we have done it numerous times and as people on here know we have even brought our 2 burner coleman stove and portable BBQ. We do the cooking with those on the balcony and have never had any complaints from anyone because of it.

And I have to say again that using those things on the balcony is not safe. If you ask, you will be told they are not allowed. Just because no one has complained, doesn't make it OK. This is not about cooking or saving money, it is about safety!

Please use the grills provided by the resort if you want to grill/cook outside.

FWIW, I would not complain about cooking odors from a DVC neighbor, but I would definitely call security if I saw someone using a coleman stove or portable BBQ on a balcony. It is a safety hazard. No apartment building or condo that I know of permits this - by order of the Fire Marshall.

Best wishes -

Make sure you request a non Handicap room! :rotfl:

CarolMN in Ontario well the area I live it is legal to use your BBQ on your balcony in the apartments and condo complexes (highrise style) and everyone has one and uses it rules are different everywhere. We also will ask for a top floor room when we are in a studio to avoid any issues when using it.

I can guarantee you it is against the fire code at WDW. If it wasn't they would have their own BBQ grills on the balcony. You will notice you have to go down to the pool area to use the BBQ.

I am not doubting the firecode there my FIL is a firefighter and they have firecode books from everywhere but he loved his steak just as much as we did and they to are DVC members LOL.

CharlesTD: You really do like to flout the rules, don't you? :sad2:

CharlesTD-

WHY would you want to use an open flame source of cooking on a wood-trimmed balcony, in a building full of hundreds of people, when you KNOW it's against not only DVC rules, but also against the law?

Seems like a no-brainer to me. You don't do it.
