eat at your own risk

Years ago we knew someone who worked at Long John Silvers. And after their stories, to this day I shudder to think about eating there. I have probably eaten there once in 15 years because of what he said.
I think if we knew all the behind the scenes on ALL our food, we wouldn't ever want to eat.
It is amazing we are not all very ill from what we eat. It shows how resilent our systems are.
It wasn't until we had a setic system in our second home that I found out what the septic companies do with the waste. :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: It's a wonder we all survive.

***"The only violation that was cited (multiple times - so I assume it was the only kind of violation) was food at various restaurants being "held at dangerous temperatures". ***

I got to see the late nite edition. You left out one word DK: "held at POTENTIALLY dangerous temperatures". What a crock that " shocking" report turned out to be. 8 cases of food poisoning in 2003 while serving over 100 million meals.

I think I have a better chance of hearing Baron claim he's jumped into Car 1 then getting sick at WDW.

I worked at the foodcourt at POFQ, and we had to take temperatures of all of our food on the hour, every hour. If the temps were not in the appropriate range we'd usually call out the chef to decide whether it should be thrown away or if it was fixable. Usually it was thrown out. I've worked in a few restaurants and Disney was by far the cleanest.

They're saving the best for last!! Tonight there's going to be another report on and in the teaser they showed a woman who said she saw a mouse in a WDW restaurant. And no, it wasn't Mickey or Minnie!!!!

Last night's report was a farce. Imagine -- a woman who got sick at a WDW restaurant and was paid a settlement by Disney and signed a confidentiality agreement -- and she wouldn't agree to be interviewed on camera!!! That's what a confidentiality agreement is -- You don't talk about it.

I think so far CBS just seems pretty lame with this story. We'll see what happens tonight.

Was this report only shown in the NY metro area? It was not on the CBS affiliate here in Florida.

I will not even eat off disney properties, and i have been going to WDW for years and years and i encourage people to stay on Disney properties and eat on Disney properties so they dont get food poisoning and ruin their trips.

Perhaps they'd have gotten a better story if they'd come here in serach of all the people that claim that the water at WDW is hazardous to their health! ;)

Second installment was more of the same "potentially dangerous temps" stuff..............but for the family that claimed they saw a rat at the San Angel Inn. Complaint was filed, Dept of Health investigated. No evidence of rats or droppings. IMO, likely a transient visitor (hey, happens everywhere) rather than rodent infestation problem. The numbers changed a little. Total of 150 violations in 2003 and 17 formal foodborne illness complaints. Still a pretty good record given the volume and ops.

Once again, I am not concerned.

If that's all CBS could dig up, I have more confidence than ever in WDW restaurants.

Between sweeps and an easy cheap shot against the parent company of one of their "rivals", no one should be surprised this came from CBS. Now, if ABC had reported it, that would be news!

CBS report=blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

I agree -- more of a whole lot of nothing.

However, I did find it interesting that the rat was seen at San Angel, since the only place I ever saw a mouse, rat or anything unsavory was on the boat ride in Mexico. We saw one running along the side of the tunnel while we were sitting in the boat waiting to pull up to get out.

CBS says they posted a list on their website of the WDW restaurants that had no violations, but I have gone to check it out yet.

CBS news story on WDW

Our local station here in Philly ran the same 2 part story investigated by CBS channel 2 in NYC. This link is to their site, and lists the report. It also lists all of the resturants/eateries that did not have any violations.

I wanted to post the link, in case anyone was concerned and wanted to eat at a place that experienced no violations last year. :D

NO THE REPORT JUST SAID "dangerous temperature". Potentially was not said. You can go the the cbsnewyork website if you want to read the storey. The fact is not properly refrigerating food is dangerous and has the potential of causing sickness.

I do agree most of the story wasn't that significant. BTW the number of peopel being sick is not really relevant. Numerous people could have gotten a mild case of food poisining and blamed on a the flue, allergy, the water etc.

On the News they said potential, I watched the report. What their website says might be something else.

The video is on the web-site. Potential is said once, the rest of the time they only refer dangerous temperatures.

Who's to say the food left at that temp would not have easily been used up in a short period of time. Was it 5 minutes or 2 hours? It makes a big difference!!!!! I have always felt the best place in the world that made me feel the safest is WDW. Everyone knows that the biggest, get the most goings over and are held to higher standards. Yes, I too have heard HORROR:earseek: :earseek: :earseek: stories from people I know who have worked with food. How they do what they do at WDW makes my head spin. That food moves so fast I can't believe it sit long enough to get the thermometer in it. And the "rat", well wild animals will be wild animals. They have snakes on the lose there too, why is that wild animal any different??? When the pied piper shows up I'll get concerned. If anything this show will just improve what was already good.

You're joking...I know Kristin Cole (the reporter who did the story). I have worked with her on stories before (as her photographer/editor). She is the QUEEN of sensationalism....a blast to hang out with, mind you. But she used to be nicknamed "the viper" amongst us photogs for her ability to blow a story out of proportion. She was the "kiss of death" for any individual she did story on.

Anywho...sounds like she got handed a blah assignment and made the most of it.
