looking for an easy craft to do with second graders, during their holiday party at school. I went to Joannes and they had cute wooden ornaments to paint but I wanted something a little more different.
TIA

How about making graham cracker houses (like gingerbread only you use graham crackers) and then decorate with different candy. If you google it you can find examples, directions, etc.

Not sure what your budget is, but last year we did no sew fleece pillows (you fringe the sides and knot them all the way around. We bought penguin print fleece (so it was winter themed not holiday) and pre cut, pre fringed and because of time constraints the parents pre tied 3 of the pillow sides. The kids stuffed their pillows and tied the last side.

What about sun catchers? The actual plastic pieces are fairly reasonable, it's the stain that will cost a little more, but it may be a fun thing for the kids and they can keep them forever. I just did one with DS(3) and I now have a blue reindeer with purple antlers and a green body that he is desperately proud of.

I did pantyhose reindeer with my 3rd graders one year. Bend a metal coat hanger into a diamondish shape and cover with pantyhose. Make felt antlers, glue on googly eyes, and a red pompom nose.

I always stock up on crafts from AC Moore. The cost and variety is great.
I really like the foam type you can glue together.

These all sound like fun crafts, but something more than what I might work into a classroom party. How about something simple, but fun that the kids can do on their own---like pipe cleaner and bead snowflakes (did this with Brownies and it wasn't as "simple" as I thought it would be--but they did fine) or candy cane reindeer or popsicle stick stars?

I spy bottles.

You can take water bottles and fill them with salt and tidbits (like bits of ribbin and certain colored beads) have them attach a list of what is found in the bottle and they have a cute quiet toy.

Don't forget to glue them shut!

What I'm doing with my sunday school class is similar to what you mentioned. We're making ornaments. Take recycled Christmas cards cut into shapes (hearts, circles, ect) Using pipe cleaners thread them with the beads that have three edges. Then glue the beaded pipe cleaners to the shaped cards. Tie ribbon to the ornament for hanging:)

:)Brown and Red fun foam google eys, pom poms, and glue. Foam glue or oht glue works best but white glue will work too.

Take brown fun foam and trace the child foot. Take the red fun foam and trace the childs hands. Cut out the tree pieces.

To assemble : The foot becomes the moose head, the hands his antlers. Glue the antlers to the back side of the mooses head. Glue on eyes and a pom pom nose.:santa:

My Michaels had fun foam shapes on sale for 50% off. A pack of 10 or 12 was about $4. They had Ginger bread men and snowmen that would be really cute to decorate.
