Eastern caribbean with no excursions + small children

Doing a 7 night eastern Caribbean in April, Fantasy to Tortola/St. Thomas/Castaway Cay.

I've looked over the excursions and they all seem really overpriced for what we want to do. Mainly beach time, plus possibly Coral World.

Anyone with experience taking cabs with small children at Tortola and St. Thomas? The lack of car seats bothers me, but I don't think we would get any car seats or anything like that using Disney's excursion vehicles to get around.

Also, what do you do about getting back to the ship? We will probably go back early (1 PM) anyway, but want to have a way back, obviously.

We are doing a beach and coral combo with a private driver also a private boat. My kids are 4 and 7. We will be back to the ship early too

Many of the cabs in St Thomas are open air trucks with benches. Riding in a car without a carseat is much safer.
