1998 was the last year that the Easter Parade was televised.
2000 was the last year that the Easter Parade was performed.
Last year was the last time that there were any Easter floats added to the parade.
This year (yesterday) there was a dance troupe from AL (a bunch of "Southern Belles" in pastel hoop skirts) dancing down Main St. to that "Easter Parade" song just before the 3pm parade.
I'm not sure of the specific reasons for the changes, although I know that the main differences between the Easter Parade and the Christmas Parade are:
1) MVMC Parade runs for a few weeks, while Easter Parade was only performed one day.
2) MVMC Parade (and all the other special seasonal entertainment) is payed for with MVMC Party events, while there is no such event to subsidize the Easter Parade.
Those could be contributing factors... I don't know.
As always, feel free to e-mail WDW Guest communications to let them know how you feel. Those of you who never go around Easter time but enjoyed the TV special may want to send such feedback to ABC Television (they are looking for ways to attract viewers right now.)
I only heard two people (in 8 hours) give the old "I drove all the way from _____ and the only reason I came was to see the (Easter Parade)..." spiel... which I find hard to believe. I certainly understand the disappointment (I never got to see it in person myself, due to scheduling), but that's alot of money to spend and a long way to drive without even making a phone call to find out if the *one-and-only* reason for your visit will indeed occur.
If you plan to write (which I encourage), try not to sound too hysterical. Give clear, logical information and pleas that will make it sound advantageous (ie: "I would be more apt to visit/watch ABC on Easter Sunday if..." rather than "I will NEVER visit/watch ABC again..." <---- Where's the incentive? If you're not coming back, what is the point of the letter?)
Hope I shed a little light.
(oh, and Happy Easter!)
