We are considering a beach vacation later this summer. A couple of years ago in July, we stopped for a day at the Outer Banks of NC. The water was freezing!! :scared1: So we won't be going back there. Are there any warm water beaches on the east coast besides in Florida that you would recommend?

We're doing Myrtle Beach this summer. Last time we were there in July the water was warm. We are staying at the Sea Watch.

We will have three generations with us and there is something for everyone.

Who you callin' a beach???

I'm checking it out now. It looks great!!

They are also running a special of 25% off the rental if you call before March. I couldn't get it to take online so I called the resort directly and spoke to someone and they made it work for us. We are renting 2 3-bedroom condos.

The ocean pattern is very different off the outer banks. I was amazed the first time I went and the water felt icy in June.

We love Litchfield Beach, south of Myrtle Beach. It is out of the hustle and bustle of Myrtle, but convenient if you want to get to the busy-ness there. Murrells Inlet is about 5 miles north of Litchfield, and has a ton of good restaurants. We usually stay at Litchfield Beach resort, which has a number of different resorts, etc.

The water at Wrightsville Beach, near Wilmington, NC, is quite warm in the summer. It's a very different atmosphere than Myrtle Beach, though, so it depends on what you're looking for. Not as tranquil as Outer Banks, but not as carnival-y at MB.

We loved the Outer Banks, but the water was a little cooler than we are used to in Hilton Head Island in SC. We love Hilton Head and go often. (Helps that family lives there!)

If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing beach with warm water, try Ocean Isle Beach. It is a very low key island, not a lot to do but lay around and relax. We've rented beach houses there a few times through cookerealty.com and have NEVER been disappointed.

Ocean Isle Beach is in the southermost part of North Carolina, about a half hour drive from the South Carolina border. It is about a 45 minute drive to Myrtle Beach, and not too far from Charleston either. We usually go both places for the day just for something to do.

If you need more info, just PM me. :)

The Atlantic Ocean is different every day! You can't determine a nice ocean day by 1 visit. We go to Long Beach Island, New Jersey every year and each day of every year the water temp. is different. I know my kids can boogie board in FREEZING water for about 3 hours. Hope you find a beach community you like.

I alot of the hotels/resorts in MB do this on a yearly basis.

We use to go to OI with the IL's and we stayed on the south part of the island in a gated community. Our house was close to the pool and ocean.

In NC and SC I think the water does not get really warm until lat July, August, September and still somewhat warm in the beginning of October.

We have also stayed at the Litchfield Beach Resort. The water was also warm enough for swimming and I always think it's cold.

It's beautiful and very laid back.

Another Columbusite here. Have you not seen all the OBX stickers on cars around here? LOL! We go to Hatteras Island and Ocracoke every year. They are the two southernmost islands on the Outer Banks. Yeah, it's not the bath water temp of the Caribbean but I've never shuddered walking into the surf. We go in late June. My son and my husband surf so they're in the water for long periods of time. No one wears dry suits at that time of year either. The atmosphere on Hatteras and Ocracoke outweighs any water temp of a few degrees, imho. Well, as my great grandmother used to say, "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still." So, I won't bother to tell you of the fabulous non-commercial seafood, the windswept dunes with no one around you except the seagulls, the beaches of Ocracoke and Hatteras which were rated #1 respectfully in 2006 and 2008 by Dr. Beach or the amazing and interesting stories of old ship wrecks, pirates and heroes of the Outer Banks. The National Seashore is staffed by a great staff of National Park Rangers who conduct free lectures, hikes, swims, beachfires, tours and childrens programs each and every day all over the island of Hatteras. Kayaking the ecosystem of Pamlico Sound is facinating and/or Pea Island Bird Refuge has much to offer as well. There are several lighthouses to tour and wild ponies on Ocracoke. Pelicans float on the thermals at the big fishing piers, waiting for scraps when the boats come in; we get a pop, grab a bench and watch the fishing boats cruise into dock and throw their catch on the docks for photos and bragging rights. It's a vacation loaded with possibilities and wonderful family memories. Oh-I wasn't trying to talk you into it. lol! I just get carried away thinking about what's to come each and every year.

I think we were in the Kill Devil Hills area of NC, which is on the north end of the state. That may explain the chill water in July. :scared1:
