Up at 7:30am (latest ever for me for a first morning on US time, last night was tough going but worth it to force me into the time difference!) Got ready and went down for breakfast around 9: Nice selection of food including danishes, muffins, toast, bagels, biscuits, toast, sausage, eggs, cereals (including Lucky Charms, yay!), fruit, juices and hot drinks. The hot items rotated each day so there was always something different. More than adequate and we found we never needed to have breakfast elsewhere. Fed and watered, we set off for the subway to Central Park.

I picked up a few bits in the nearby Sephora first (needed mascara badly!) and then we set off for a stroll around Central Park: Spent a lovely few hours here and our highlights were the Alice and Hans Christian Andersen statues, Bow Bridge, Strawberry Fields, Tavern on the Green, 55 Central Park West (Dana Barrett’s apartment in Ghostbusters)

On the way out of Central Park we bought a pretzel and churro to share from a street vendor which unfortunately were both cold and dry and ended up getting chucked, not all of the vendors are equal it has to be said! Next we headed down Fifth Avenue, stopping off at FAO Schwartz and World of Disney where I was very restrained and only spent $50!

Steve wanted a UV filter for his camera so we stopped at Best Buy for that (so random to have Best Buy on the same street as a load of posh designer stores!) then Build a Bear for an NYPD shirt for my bear and Grand Central Station: Such an amazing place, nothing like this would ever be built now. Whilst there was shared a slice of cheesecake from Junior’s. Well I say slice but half of a cake would probably be a more accurate description, we ended up taking half of it back to the hotel for later! On the way back to the hotel we stopped to get some photos of the New York Public Library, shame about the netting though.

Mr lion does not approve!

We got back around 4, had a rest and drank the Snapple we’d bought from a deli on the way and I caught up with my trip notes. Later we set off out again for dinner at Curly’s Vegetarian lunch. We decided to walk which took about 20 minutes and once there we were seated immediately (lucky as it’s a tiny little place) Loved the fact that you get paper placemats and crayons here, and they had previous customer’s artwork on the walls! I ordered the ‘fauxphilly cheesesteak’, Steve the mushroom swiss veggie burger and we both had sweet potato fries with them. Another excellent meal and another bargain at $28 including a generous tip, I could definitely get used to dining in New York!! We had planned to get the subway back but got a little confused and couldn’t find the train going in the right direction so we just walked which was tiring and we made the decision to ‘save’ our legs a bit more from here on out as we were still away for a while yet. We stopped at Walgreens for room snacks on the way back to the hotel and were in bed by 10.
