Since there is no resort to resort transportation from Disney there are two ways to do this.
First I always recommend that you plan on the nearest theme park for the day (or part of the day) so you can easily get to the resort for your meal via Disney transportation.
We made the mistake on our first family trip in 1997 of making dining reservations all over the place without realizing how big WDW really is.
If you have a car you will be given an ID when you check in to your Disney resort so you won't have to pay to park at any of the theme parks. All the resorts will give you a three hour pass to park so you can eat, shop, look around.
Please keep in mind that you cannot park at the Magic Kingdom. Only Disney buses are allowed near the MK entrance. For the MK you must park at the TTC, and then tram over to the boat or monorail to get to the MK.
If you plan on eating at any of the MK resorts it's much easier to use Disney transportation. Also, if you plan on eating in the Epcot resort area (Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin) you can easily walk to this area from the Epcot International Gateway (near the United Kingdom). You can also get to the Epcot resort area by walking or via boat from the Disney Studios. The Friendship boats travel between Epcot IG and the Studios making three stops along the route at the Epcot resorts.
Many people prefer to drive themselves, especially to another resort. Personally I don't like to drive in an unknown area so we never get a car while at WDW. I also like the idea of not having to touch a car during my stay.....to me that is a great treat. If you use the nearest theme park you can easily use Disney transportation to get to your resort meals at WDW.
