Easier to rent a reservation or points?

I have had a search for Hawaii (Marriott property) set for about 6 months now for next September. Well, I'm pregnant! I'm due in January and that vacation no longer works for us.

We plan to rent or transfer points for the baby's first year because we'll really need the money now that it looks like I'll be home for 6-8 months with no income.

So should we keep the search going and try to rent the reservation if it comes through? Or should I cancel the search and just plan to rent our points when our use year deposits the points in our account? Is it easier to rent a reservation than it is to rent points? We own at Saratoga. Thanks!

Aren't those points, since you are doing an II search, already committed to II? If so, it is against II policy to resell/rent an II ressie.

I just called Member services and asked if I could transfer the reservation to someone elses name and she said yes, I could. Is that not true?

DVC may have a special agreement with II. Did you talk to one of the MS people that specifically handles II when you asked the question or a "regular" DVC CM?

I know when I had some speific questions regarding II, I was transferred to a different CM.

I spoke to a II person. However, it is really all very confusing. They said you can transfer your reservation but if it looks like a pattern they won't let you. So I ask you, who is deciding that? We have rented points once before-- if I do it again in a three year timeframe will I get in trouble? She didn't know. I hate that scammers have ruined the option for us honest people!

I don't know if you deposited these points with II or are just searching with them and not found a match yet. If the points aren't deposited yet with II, I'd just cancel the search.

You can let family members or a friend use a II exchange, but you can't SELL a II exchange. It's against II's rules.
